When I go to Vegas, a problem I have is being wide awake too darn early the 1st morning after the 1st night, regardless of how late I stay up the night before. It's pretty much like my body wanting to stay on central time at get up at 9am central.

Getting up at 6 or 7 pacific that 1st morning makes it more difficult to stay up late and enjoy myself that following night, and by the time of vacation day 3 that I am acclimated to pacific time, I'm on the final full day of my visit.

Other than just scheduling a 4+ day trip, can anyone suggest some tips to get acclimated to the time change and quickly be in sync with Vegas time.

Vegas is open 24/7 I don't see any real reason to be in sync with their time.

I take advantage of that first morning to see the usually-crowded sights like the Bellagio Conservatory or get an early breakfast before everyone else. Use it to your advantage and have fun.

I use to fly 100,000 miles a year for work and these things worked for me. But I do believe everyone is different and you will have to try many different things to find what works best for you. I never really had any problems going just 2 time zones, it was always those Seattle to East Coast flights that attempted to mess me up.

    1. As soon as I got on plane, I changed my watch to my destination time, sounds silly but I think it helped my mind wise.

    2. As soon as I landed and got checked into hotel, I took some melatonin tablets.

    3. No alcohol on plane, in fact only water. And lots of it. Experts say at minimum 8 ounces for every hour on plane. No coffee, no caffeine of any kind.

    4. Best investment I ever made was Bose Noise Cancelling headphones, freaking amazing. Very expensive, about $300, but have had mine since 1999 and still use them.

    5. Light bothers me so I also travel with silly eye mask but I do believe it helps me sleep longer.

Just some thoughts to possibly help you out. Hope it helps.

Since I fly in from the east coast, what I like to do is get as early a flight as possible - so that I'm usually already at the hotel by noon or early afternoon at the latest - and then take a nap right after checking in - since having taken a super early flight, by the time it's early afternoon Vegas time we've already been up around 12 hours anyway.

I usually drink some on the plane, then once we get settled into the suite, we have a late room service lunch and/or a drink or few , have a little "private time" with the wife :wink2: take a soak in the tub, etc. - then we take a nice long nap. First night, we usually try to make our dinner reservations later [9 or 10]. That way, we're nice & rested by the time we're having dinner, and then able to stay up well into the early AM, which then helps us sleep better into the next morning [whereas if we didn't do this, we'd be to bed early & up early the next day] and helps start us off fully adjusted to Pacific time by the morning of the second day.

The only possible hitch in being able to do this is not being able to get early check-in - it's never a problem for me because I always arrange it through my host - but even if you don't have a host who can help you out, you should at least inquire with the front desk at the time you make your reservations to see if it's possible - even if they're not able to accomodate you without charge, it still might be worth paying for early check-in just because it helps reduce wasted time the first day/nigh - and really the whole trip - by helping eliminate the jet lag.

I don't think there is any kind of thing you can do that will instantly acclimate your body to the different time zone.

Since you are saying that generally by the third day of your trip that you are more in tune with the pacific time zone you could try adjusting your schedule 2-3 days before you leave on your trip.

If it is just generally you want to be up and about later at night in Las Vegas then you could try heading back to your room around 4-5PM Vegas time and grab a two hour nap. By the time you get up, get refreshed, get ready, etc its going to be 7-8PM, good time to go for dinner and then put in a few hours gambling and going out... plus going up to the room for an afternoon nap should be a great opportunity for sex if you are traveling with your significant other.

Auggie and Jilly had it. Try and adjust a day or two early and a solid nap that first day should help. You will still have some trouble but I would do those things if it were me.

I have tried every tip available but nothing seems to work for me , apart from changing my watch as soon as I get on the plane, psychologically it seems to work to a certain extent considering we fly from Scotland and there is an 8 or 9 hour time difference.

It normally takes us 20 hours to get there and we usually arrive about 7pm and get to bed about midnight, in total a 26 hour stint and I am always on the casino floor by 6 am with my first $40 free drink.

On day 3 after arrival it seems to hit me but a 2 hour nap in the afternoon and I am all set for everything vegas can throw at me.

Wow, honesty on the $40 free drink, I like it! :D

Now for international flights, have you ever tried, No Jet Lag, homeopathic pills out of New Zealand? I used them couple times from LA to Tokyo, Seoul, Australia and I thought they really helped.
http://www.nojetlag.com/index.html OH, in Scotland, looks like it sells under Jet Ease name.

Yeah, the suggestions we are throwing out in this thread should be OK for somebody doing a 2 or 3 hour time adjustment...

But an 8-9 hour time difference is quite a lot to overcome because you are pretty much dealing with an entirely reversed schedule, IE: your 7AM when it may be normally time to get up back home is going to be 11PM in Las Vegas... that would be quite a transition to do that in just a few days.

The problem is NOT the time time zone.

Your body is telling you to get your butt back down to the casino and donate more money. You have already programmed yourself to do this during your months of prep. Play, drink, eat, play, eat, drink.... keep doing it until you pass out.

Plenty of good tips in this thread, thanks for the input everyone.

For my trip in 2 weeks, my flight arrives @ 11am, so I hope to be at the hotel by 1pm. I think I'll have a late lunch, check in, and then get some rest for a bit.

+1 on the hydration and noise control during the flight as well. I've been wearing earplugs pretty regularly when I fly, it seems to help me fatigue-wise.

I once tried not boozing during the flight and it made no difference. I am not falling for that one again!

It sounds like your body has a good internal clock so you are not likely to find anything that works. You just have to accept it and work with it. I'm the same way. I can go to bed and think "I want to wake up at 6:20am", and I will wake up at that time.

I had a job where I would travel to China from the U.S. several times a year and I would be there for weeks at a time. I tried all the tricks of setting the watch, adjusting sleep patterns before the trip, melatonin and other herbal remedies. Nothing worked.

this is easy...just wake up at the early time and get REALLY drunk that morning. Pass out, take a nap in the afternoon, then go out like normal. Voila!

    Hey Now!
I get up at 4 am EDT everyday for work, so I just treat Vegas time as a weekend at home, sleep in a couple of hours extra, and get up at 5 am Vegas time and make my coupon runs solo while wifey sleeps.
IMHO the bestest time to gambol is early in the day anyhoo..
Especially for a VP/BJ player like me.. easy to get on the best machines or score 3rd base at a low limit DD table!

Our routine is simple(coming from East coast)...

Fly in before noon. Wife is ready for a nap when we pull into the hotel. I am ready to do the town but will be sleep drunk at 11:00 if I'm not smart about it. I take a walk while wifey unpacks and lays down. I join her after 1/2hr or so. When we wake up, we are ready for the night and will not see bed until 4-5am. After that, it's pretty much routine... we go to bed by 5am and I'm up by 9. She will be up by 11 unless we have something planned earlier. So far, this has worked like a charm. I don't think it matters what "time" you're on. It just depends on what you want to do. Most of our Vegas lives are lived when the sun goes down, so that's how we gear the trip to accommodate what we want to do.

flying in from London with an 8 hour time difference, I don't bother going to bed the first night usually. I have done solo trips where I have kept to UK time the whole 6 days.

As a rule, don't sleep much in Las Vegas.
