Dress up in Vegas?

I understand Las Vegas is hot, and that we are in the middle of one of the hottest Summers since the Dust Bowl of the 30s, but I enjoy dressing up. Black pants, black shoes, button down shirt and a nice suit or blazer jacket.

I don't plan on dressing like that the entire time, but I feel better and more confident when I know I look nice, and dressing up makes me feel that way.

I grew up with the Casino (the 1995 film) and Rat Pack era heavily influencing me. Are those days gone or can I still pull off looking good?

Man...thats an open ended question.

If your walking the strip...go comfortable...its to dang hot and who the heck cares what you wear walking. If your going to upscale restaurants...yes. I gave up on proper attire in Vegas...my fancy is khaki pants, polo shirt, nice shoes and belt, rolex or vacheron watch....thats it.

Meeting friends...depends where and when. Private poker table, high limits area...sure...might be psychological, but in high limits areas, dress matters.

From what I have found, even at different restaurants...money talks, dress is secondary BUT some restaurants and bars do have dress codes.

My rule of thumb for any place that might require proper attire: If I have to ask myself, if I need a tie, suit, or jacket....just by asking...I wear it..dress up. If I don't question myself..polo and khakis.

Vegas of the past...Frankie, cocktails, and dinner jackets...PLEASE tell me where its at. I will attend...love jazz clubs, cigars(Cuban-Cohiba) and my wife in a nice dress. Thing of the past...I believe so. Until I'm proved wrong...and I hope I am. I'll be watching the replies on this post.

Anything goes in Vegas. Where whatever makes YOU happy, and makes you feel confident.

 

In my regular life I dress pretty relaxed, sloppy even. But when I go to Vegas and wear nice pants, shoes, button down shirt and sports jacket I feel great. I feel like a different man.

I say go for it, where what you want. Even when it is hot you can walk the strip at a relaxed pace and not be too hot.

 

I say dress down during the day. Soomething comfortable like shorts and a T-shirt. At night you can go all out. Even in the middle of the summer, once the sun goes down it will be tolerable.

I always laugh when I watch movies about Vegas and every single person, even the extras, is dressed to the 9's, no matter where they are. I have never seen that in all the times I've been there.

If I'm going to a club, the dressiest I'll get is a button up shirt, nice dark jeans and nice shoes.

I say put on a sports coat and a nice pair of pants. Heck I bought two sports jackets just to wear when I'm in Vegas. I know I feel great when I get dressed up and I never feel out of place, and either will you.

 

Though I'm the ultimate in "casual" dresser every chance I get... there are plenty of people who "spiff it up"in Vegas. You'll get noticed and for ALL the right reasons!

 

My wife tries to dress up one night each trip but it doesn't always happen.
When it does, she is just as eager to remove them and get back in comfortable clothing as she is to put them on.

 

The one thing that shocked me when I first visited Vegas was that people didn't dress in the casinos like they do in the movies or tv shows set in Vegas. I was wearing a nice outfit and kept getting stopped by people asking if I was security, lol.

I still always dress up if I am going to a show, a nice restaurant or a nightclub.

 

I usually dress "business casual" 24/7 - slacks, collared polo or button-down shirt [usually untucked during the day, tucked at night] - only break out the sports jacket for dinners at a few of the more formal restaurants anymore, though, because - well, because practically noone else does anymore - but I still like to when I feel the venue calls for it, simply because I still feel it's appropriate even if it's no longer required. Of course, I'm not really a jeans or shorts guy though.

Unfortunately, the days of when a majority of people in Vegas dressed appropriately seems to be gone forever. I think you'll be surprised at what some people are wearing - even at night, and even at shows and in the best clubs and restaurants. Be prepared to see shorts, t-shirts, tank tops & jeans pretty much everywhere you go, appropriate venue or not.

But that being said, you still won't look out of place dressed well - and there will be a lot of folks like myself who will appreciate & be glad to see that you're dressed well, too.

 

Casual is customary during the day, particularly in the hot summer months, but in the evening you can dress up if you want and you will not appear out of place.

I think there's a misconception that Las Vegas was always dressy back in the 1970s and such. In the evening, yes, this was quite true, but in the daytime back in those days it was quite casual, jeans and "I'm with STUPID" tees and such. For a show or a nice restaurant, yes, dressing was expected back then, and certainly not out of place now.

 

First off, I'm not fond of dress codes and have I no problem with the way other people dress.

Having said the above - I wear nice shoes, slacks and a nice shirt (usually 50's retro) when out in Las Vegas. I started doing this several years ago and immediately noticed I got much better service from staff at every restaurant, hotel and casino I attended. And, if I add an expensive watch, that seems to bump it up a notch too (concierges and hosts seem to notice watches).

It is not my intent to come off snooty here. I'm just saying that I think I get treated differently if I'm dressed sharp. Maybe it simply changes my attitude and confidence level - who knows.

I used to dress up when I would go to see a Las Vegas show and yeah it felt good.
But now days when I'm in Vegas I dress for comfort! No matter what time of year it is.
I'm a Baggy Cargo Shorts and T-Shirt kinda guy. Living in Orlando we dress like tourist 24/7.

 

I remember reading a guide to LV before my first trip and the dress style was described as "Resort Casual". I have found that to be very accurate.

I wear a collared shirt and nice shoes out at night, during the day its shorts and a T shirt.

 

I think the reason everyone was always dressed to the "9's" in the heydey of Vegas was because the public mindset was different (from everything I have read, people got dressed up just to fly on a plane or ride the NYC subway back then) but mainly because there was no such thing as walking the Strip in the heat - there were no pedestrian sidewalks or overhead walkways. You had to drive everywhere and everything was farther apart. Going from air conditioned hotel to air conditioned car to air conditioned restaurant was a lot easier for someone all dressed up than if they had to walk the Strip in those clothes today.

Even though I do wear t shirts and shorts by day, if I am going to a nice restaurant I believe 100% that you should look presentable - I believe in wearing at least a collared button down dress shirt, dress pants and dress shoes. For Hash House a Go Go, you could be in a thong, but if you are in an upscale restaurant you should dress properly, no matter how hot it is outside.

 

Was on a group trip that included friends-of-friends, on our way to Wynn to see a show. We met in the hotel hallway outside my room, and one of the guys, older and overweight, was wearing jogging shorts, a see-through mesh tank top, and a straw fishing hat. I flat-out told him that I wasn't going anywhere until he went back into his room and put on at least some nice jeans and a buttoned shirt (I had the tickets). He didn't talk to me the rest of the trip, except to point out someone wearing shorts inside the theater (nice pleated khaki shorts, I might add). Boo hoo.

It adds a little extra in your step to dress nicely, even if it isn't required. To each his own, but I'd rather get stares for looking great instead of for looking sloppy.

 

ya. thats whats great about vegas. just have your own style, it all fits in. At night you will not see me without my black shoes, slacks, nice and bright shirt/tie to attract the girls. During the day if im not at a pool you will see me in jeans with sneakers and either a nice polo or a dress shirt/tie. but I tend to go more in the cooler times. Never been there in the middle of summer. I have been late april/sept.
