Reading on another thread the opinions of whether the high rollers or the low rollers are keeping the casinos profitable, I got thinking about my offers.

I think I'm considered a low roller. I take about $1,000 each trip. I get offers for MGM that are only about 10% off regular rates, maybe discounts on shows.

My next trip is a Fri-Tue (4 nights) at Flamingo for $50 total, with both our players cards in the online booking. I was surprised we got a Friday comp and only a $50 Saturday. My win/loss for 2011 was +$2 from four visits. Although I don't know what my Lady's win/loss is, I feel like I'm getting way more than I have earned.

My last trip to Aria I crunched the numbers after I got back and think I was somewhat undercomped - but it wasn't like we were really lacking anything we wanted or denied anything we requested while we were there, so it was no big deal.

But generally, I feel most of the time that I am fairly comped - but then again, I'm old school in my thinking - I preferred the days when every place didn't run on a point system & was so upfront about your numbers & your theo, so that you now have to always be thinking in the back of your mind about what you deserve vs. what you've gotten down to the last penny - I much preferred the way it used to be when you wanted to come out you called your host, showed up, played, and your host just comped you and based on whether you felt you were treated well you either came back again or tried a new place next time and that was it. So I try not to dwell on the numbers & the offers as little as possible and just do it the way I always have - by calling my host, telling them when I want to come out, and hoping they get it right and my wife & I leave happy without having to have spent too much time thinking about my level of play and whether I'm getting the absolute maximum of comps for it instead of just enjoying our vacation.

Players clubs, tiers, points, express comps, etc. - for me, it really just takes some of the the enjoyment out of the whole Vegas/casino comp experience - reducing it to just another cold, calculated business transaction from the more personalized experience it was compared to even just 10-20 years ago.

I feel marketing offers often overcomp to get me in the door, while hosts often undercomp during my stay. I guess if you factor in how each play into the cycle, I'm adequately comped.

I think for the most part my corporate offers are right on. I agree with CaptainJack about the marketing offers. Look at the offer I am using for my September trip from the Bellagio- VIP offer - suite, $500 in FP, $1050 food, limo. I think that offer is definitely overcomping me. But I will suffer through it - and accept the offer.

I feel like I get comped just about right, my needs are pretty straight forward: free rooms, fair points accumulation.

    I also agree with JillyFromPhilly.

I dont receive any marketing or promotions as I am not US resident. I always have to go through a host and think that I do OK with comps, will be interesting to see if its any less this September.

    FYI from MLIFE:
At this time we only market to domestic customers in the United States. That is why you would not receive direct marketing correspondences, offers, etc. Your hosts are best able to assist you because they have the ability to evaluate your account and determine if they can extend you an offer.

I think I have done fairly well with my comps for the play I have given over the years.

The one area I have missed out is with the ridiculously generous marketing comps that other players get.

That is what hits me as most of my higher stakes play has been at MGM casinos. A couple of years ago I stopped by Bellagio, while I was staying at a non-MGM hotel, to play $5 VP. I put over $40k through the machine. I got no offers at all while US residents would probably get an offer for a room or mini-suite, some F&B credit and some freeplay for that sort of play.

I have other examples but will stop there! I can get free rooms through a host but it would be nice to see a list of decent offers similar to what other players seem to get for less play.

I am UK resident and recieve offers via the MLife website. Not the same as the offers US players receive, but hotel specific quarterly offers.

I also had an email offer last month, in relation to the Amir Khan fight at Mandalay Bay. First time they have emailed me.

i've been both, but mostly overcomped in the past and mostly undercomped lately. i had a few trips there where i got 3-4x what i deserved. but then i had a few big trips this year where i was severely undercomped. and then there's last trip where i feel i was undercomped, but they consider me overcomped. overall i'd say i've done better than i should in terms of total comps to total play.

Since I only make 1-2 trips a year, and my last one was my largest gambling budget by far ($2k for 4 nights), I was happy that I got a (what I thought was)good rate for the suite that I stayed in. Wound up knocking some money off the bill with ECs, and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Now since that trip a month ago I have gotten 2 different offers via email, one for 2 nights and $25 in FP at NYNY and 50% off Sun-Thur rates and 20% off Fri-Sat rates at MC. And I feel like that is fair for the play I had, mostly centered at MC and NYNY last trip.

I wouldn't say I have a level of comp expectation that I am over or under. When I first started getting free rooms, I was surprised at how much I got.

But the level I get tends to fluctuate. I don't worry about that or get insulted when I'm offered less than before. I just look for deals I find acceptable coupled with times I feel like going (I'm usually once a year at most), and then try to squeeze the most offer I can out of the play I give them.

I don't feel that the property owes me comps, and I don't feel that I owe them play. I just want to feel like I got the most I could from the amount I wanted to play.

I'm not sure why I should ever feel "over" comped. The casino/host gives me what they are willing to give me. It's up to them to say whether or not my play and my loyalty is worth anything to them and how much it is worth. I'm hardly going to turn them down if they offer me free food or free rooms or free anything else ...

I've never really felt "under" comped, on the other hand, either. I try to say "thank you" for whatever I get and to be happy that there were elements of my vacation I didn't have to pay out of pocket.

Well, I take that back. Years ago when we didn't understand the comp system in place and we could have had free rooms (or at the very least casino player rates), yes, we were way undercomped because we weren't comped at all when we should have been.

for my trip in a few days, I am going to be very over-comped, unless I get extremely lucky.

Have 3 nights in a Parlor Suite at Wynn + $1000 free play plus $600 FB - foliowed by 3 nights in a Panorama suite at PH + another $1000 free play- and my bankroll for the whole trip is only $3k due to losing my job very recently!

Probably shouldn't be going at all, but the flights were non refundable and I need a break before (hopefully) starting a new job in September.

The way I look at it is I have given both properties a lot of play the last few years - often losing five figure sums per trip.

I feel like I'm over comped because we are considered semi-low rollers. BUT when I look back at my win/loss statements from the past 10 years I can't tell you that we really have never come out that much ahead but maybe a few dollars here and there. So, based upon the amount I've put into the casinos and hardly no profit in return -- maybe I am undercomped.

irmster - I read your post and I'm in about the exact same boat as you!

I just found out my job ends 8/31, and I don't have another one lined up, yet.

I, too, feel I've been being over-comped, however, I also lose WAYYYY more than my theo - so, they're making out on me either way.

I'm staying 3 nights in a 1-bedroom suite at Bellagio 8/31 - 9/3 with $700 freeplay, and $450 food and beverage, and will only be bringing $3000 for those 3 nights due to lack of a job.

After those 2 nights, I'm staying for the first time at the new Tropicana, suite for 2 nights, $200 food and beverage and $1950 freeplay! I hope I can get ahead at Bellagio so I don't end up really screwing the Tropicana with their generous offer.

Good luck on your trip and on landing a new job.

I don't think we deserve the comps we get at Aria.. but I also don't honestly admit how much I am willing to lose playing slots. My husband plays mainly craps.. and normally comes home with his entire bankroll and then some (with a few sports bets, and some video keno when he is resting), and I crank out the points on slots. We have come to the conclusion that my slot play and losses "Pay" for our room at Aria. Normally 3 nights comped.. and some food credit and free slot play. We like nice hotels, so we consider my play our cost of staying in a nice hotel. We could pay for our room, but I'm still going to play the slots, so I'll take what they give me and smile and say Thank you!
