    I walked 18 holes ( shot 86....good for me ! ) +
came home and push-mowed my lawn, yesterday.
It was hot + humid !
Had to go to bed early - I was so tired.
The AC was blowing on my lower legs all night.
    ***** 3 a.m. ******
I roll over, pulled my right leg up over the pillow
I sleep with between my knees.
    WHOA !!!!!!
My flexed right hamstring locks up FAST.
I rolled onto my back + tried to point my toes to my chin.
I'm starting to wince + moan......I didn't want to wake
    the baby and my wife.:nono:
After a good 60 second fight.....I got it under control.
It was locked so bad -- I pulled my leg up toward the ceiling
and yanked my ankle up , so the hamstring would be stretched.
I held it there for 5 minutes !......looking at this strange shadow
    of my leg + arm
    on the wall + ceiling.
I never did straighten it out completely.
That sucker was getting to a VERY PAINFUL level---
whew !.......I just caught it or I would have had to have help.
    .
My hamstrings have been "tight" my whole life.
    But as I youngster.....they didn't cramp.
    .
    I ain't no youngster anymore !
    .
    Anybody else ?

When this has happened to me, I have always been able to attribute it to a lack of fluid intake the previous day. You may have drank enough water for a normal day, but did you drink enough considering you walked 18 and mowed the lawn in the heat? It may not be what caised it, but it's something to consider.

    Nice going on the 86:thumbsup:

Potassium deficiency is usually the cause. Eat more bananas!

My wife occasionally gets these terrible ones and forget about not waking anyone. She screams, the first few times, I thought someone broke into the house. She scared the crap out of dog, too!:evillaugh
    She's screaming, dog barking & it's 3 AM.:nono: I'd like some sleep.

Joe is right - it is definitely potassium defenciency thay causes those cramps. I got one a couple of weeks ago and it is a nightmare while you are going through it. I stretched out the muscle right away (I read that you should do this a while back) and it did alleviate the tightness and the muscle did not hurt as much. By the next day it was fine.

It could be you lost a lot of minerals through sweating on the golf course. You could start taking a potassium/magnesium supplement, and that would take care of any future problem.

Oh it's definitely from the dehydration.
    Funny thing was.....
on the golf course, I drank a bottle of watered
    down Gatorade.
I always mix a bottle of water w/ either OJ.....or
    lately, Gatorade.
    Potassium + electrolites refuelers.
    .
The cold AC blowing on those muscles was a bad recipe.
    .
I just talked to my wife, on the phone ---
She told me "Oh, I saw you holding up your leg.....but if I
moved at all....the baby would have woke up......you were
    on your own last night.":rolleyes2:
    .
    Joe,
You had me laughing w/ that story !

Happens to my calf muscle periodically and always at night in bed. I wake up and stretch and bam! It definately holds you captive until it finally subsides.

I had a Charlie Horse once so bad I was in tears. Only time I have ever had one, and like yours it hit me when I was sleeping. That was the worst pain I had ever had, and I have gone through a pneumothorax, and that was really bad.

Eating bananas help. If you watch PGA events on TV they disappear under the grandstands, and one event they had a camera in there. 3 guys were standing there woofing down bananas they had for them.

    Wow-sonic bomb. There's a term I bet I haven't heard in 45+ years. I remember hearing them as a kid.

I have restless legs and move around a lot while sleeping. You just have to move your leg the wrong way once and you're hobbling for a couple of days. I got the restless legs issue to settle down with calcium and magnesium. I agree with the advice given, stay well hydrated and eat a banana every day.

Somebody reminded me about drinking quinine ( sp ?) water.
My father used to drink it for his cramps.
    .
I'm kinda amazed that some people don't get cramps ?
    I'm so used to it....
I thought everybody gets them all the time like me.
