I remember on my last trip i went to a 10$ minimum table(my favorite) and played 120-200$ a hand . They decided to raise the table minimum to 100$ because of me ... I felt so evil. Anyone every do something like that before?

Did you ask them to raise it or did they just do it because you were betting higher?

Yep!!!! iv done it before a few times when i get on a big roll and im on the casino floor and wanna keep the table to myself, ill ask to have it bumped up to keep it to myself usually a 100 or 200 dollar minimum will keep the table to myself on the Main floor most of the people that play that high stick to the HL rooms. Only one time have i ever had them say no to raising the limit and i was at the palms and i was at the table by myself and up like 4 or 5 grand and they said they have a policy for table limits and if i wanted a higher limit i could go to the HL room.

I've never asked for mins to be raised - seems like a dick move to me. Of course, I've had them raise it when they saw I was always betting more than the min. But if they ask if they can, I always say no.

i only ask when its just me at the table and i wanna keep like that if im on a big roll or something, id never do it if there were others at the table. i dont think its a dick thing to ask to raise the min, it happens all the time in the HL rooms

I always ask for the table minimum to be raised to what my personal minimum for the session is because the way I look at it is - since BJ is a game where someone else's play can affect my game - I want to make sure that, at the very least, anyone else who sits down & joins me has at least as much "skin in the game" as I do [and I already play in high limit - but I will still have them jack it up to my level, because bad players exist at all levels of play; there might be fewer in high limit, but they're still there - so best to exclude as many potential bad players from joining you as you can, IMO]

So I don't consider it a dick move at all, but rather a smart one. Also, it's best to ask for the limit to be raised when you're alone at the table or playing with people who don't bother you, because anyone else already sitting & playing will usually be grandfathered in at the old minimum, so you usually can't get rid of a bad player with a minimum raise after the fact.

If you're playing on the main floor, it makes even more sense to do this - especially if you're playing at a table with otherwise very low limits - simply because [let's face it], if you're at a low minimum table it's much more likely you'll get a newbie who doesn't know how to play or someone who is just goofing off at $5 or $10 or $15 a hand potentially messing up your hands.

The reason they probably raised the minimum for you without your asking is probably as a courtesy for the same reason [they might even have thought you were unaware it could be done so did it for you]

well in my case i prefer not to play in the HL rooms and the floor at the MGM Grand were i spend 99% of my time gambling dont have 200 dollar tables so you can make one, the casino is there to cater to its players so they are usually happy to raise it, and Alot of people do it in the high limit room because they play at much higher limits then the tables min, so if you plan on playing yellows and chocolates your gonna wanna raise the min to 1k or higher iv never played at that level but i see guys all the time sit down and then bump the min up to whatever there gonna play.

Exactly - there's a lot of folks [myself included] who play well above a $300 or $500 minimum bet, but who still don't have the $500k-$1M LOC to get a reserved private table at most places on the strip.

Also, since as I pointed out they will grandfather in anyone else already sitting at the table, I still don't see how it's that much of a dick move - they're not going to kick anyone off just for you. If they did, then I would agree that would be a dick move, but not just raising the limit to keep someone new from joining.

i do it almost every time i sit down. i like playing with other people, but i hate people sitting down at a $100 table with $500 or something and betting against me every time. so pretty much whenever i sit down, i have them bump up the min to $500 or $1000 so i don't have to deal with that. you never see that kind of riff-raff at the $500+ level.

I can understand your reasons to raise table minimums and such. I don't understand why you would call a person you don't even know "riff-raff". I'll just assume you're not aware what the definition of ********* is.

I've had the minimum raised because of my betting, but I've never asked for it.

The only people that bother me are smokers and slow players. People playing badly are as likely to help me as hurt me. I don't have that psychological quirk where I get pissed at the hurts and ignore the helps.

Isn't it true that in BJ (based on math) another players play can't have an affect on the outcome of a hand. They are just as likely to help you as they are to hurt you. Anything else is just results based.

sure, but does it sound like fun to have 2k out on 2 hands with a split and 2 doubles and 10k in play and some idiot on 3rd base with $100 on the table hits his 15 against a 6 "because he feels like it" and the dealer makes 21 and you lose it all? theoretically it could help you, sure, but it's no fun to lose like that.

You are correct in what you say here. Many BJ players still believe in the myth that the play of others will affect them, when in reality over time they are just as likely to help you as they are to hurt you.

It could go either way, but it will bother you much more when it goes against you, vs the pleasure of winning.

I still recall years ago playing a massive bet(for me), getting a 20, and watched as some asshole hit soft 20(not double, hit) and caused the dealer to get 21(otherwise we all win). Years later and I still think about it.

BJ players would rather lose to correct stategy rather than some off the wall play. They feel slighted losing to the dealer when the person next to them plays off the wall. I rarely play BJ, but my girlfriend does and when she loses it's the guy or girls fault next to her playing wildly. When the table is playing correct stategy and she loses it's "the cards just weren't hot". She feels she at least got a fair shake. So I understand why players will want to raise the table limits.

Alot of players that bet the higher amounts are generally playing with sums of money that mean something to them and they take it seriously. if they wanna raise the table limit its a reasonable request. If i dont like the limit on the table ill go to another.
