Points are based on coin in. Each casino has their formula. Generally, all machines track the same. For example, all machines at CET give one point for every $5 in.

At MGM, some machines do a bit less. Usually newer or themed machines.

Points should be the least of your concern. Payoffs are way more important.

Play at M Resort on a Sunday or a Monday with a player's card. 5X or 7X points all day.

I know this sounds stupid but I don't care how much money I will make on a machine. I am looking for a machine that will let me play the longest to rack up points. So small wins are fine. I call them rapid pay machines, no big wins. I noticed when I play American Idol at $6 at a CET property I can rack up alot of points on a minimum about of money. For example I earned 3,850 tier credits with $100. I know that is rare because that is the best I have done on it. I seem to need to play twice as long on many other machines playing the same amount. A example if I bet $6 on Hangover, I have to play 2 hours to get the same amount of points as I earn in a hour on American Idol. The machine is faster pace and adds your totals faster.

I try to earn at least 3,000 tier points a visit. My visits are short, weekend only. Just looking for a good machine for a change.

Your American Idol results are more likely an anomaly of better than expected luck. Your best bet is likely the older red/white/blue machines, which likely have a slightly higher payback percentage (vs. the video games with royalty fees).

Your best bet in the casino is to get / learn a playing strategy guide (free online or you can buy a laminated card for $5-$10) and play the best video poker machine available for your bankroll. A multiplay game will help you accrue points faster. I made a few hundred racking up 700 points in an hour playing three and five play $1 VP (9/6 JOB in East Hammond). They have the same machines in AC and I'll try for a DIAD. In Vegas, the Harrah's machines have worse odds.

My highest coin in games recently were on Rawhide, the 5 reel slot from Konami (not the video slot). Play one up from minimum bet. I had $330 of coin in on $40,, my biggest hit was $34.

I also racked up over 400 points on Forbidden Dragon from WMS on $50 at Venetian earlier this month, although I've found it's a slow starting game for me but usually heats up.

    Good luck.

Is that the seizure inducing one on the back wall with the bonus that keeps saying, "My dear..."?

    I love that game!

The game you're thinking of isn't the WMS game, it's made by some small slot manufacturer. You are right about the seizure inducing....no way I can watch that for more than a minute at a time.

Actually it is far beyond rare.

Typically if you cycle your money through a machine to the point of total ruin (meaning you play and play and play continually until eventually your money runs out) you will usually go through your buy in 7 to 15 times before its all gone.

Of course depending on how luck goes it can be more or less than that - you hit a spot of bad luck and you might only go through your buy in 4 or 5 times... hit a couple of big wins or get the bonus games a little more often than is normal and you could last a lot longer.

That said, you were saying you earned 3,850 TCs on $100... thats playing your $100 through more than 190 times.

My first thought is that you have those numbers wrong. I'm not saying it didn't happen, as just about anything is possible, just that for you to have earned that many points on just $100 would have required such an enormous amount of luck and a whole lot of miracles and long shots coming your way.

My second thought is that you maybe earned 3,850 RCs on your $100. That would still require going through your $100 about 50 times, but it would be a lot more likely than earning that maybe TCs on it.

Either way, there isn't going to be any machine that plays like that - its just not profitable for the casino (in this case if you were right about it being TCs that means you probably earned about $150 worth of RCs for your $100... not hard math to figure out thats bad for the casino).

I would call myself lucky. My numbers are right. I was told I was 150 points from DIAD on that $100. I have been playing that machine every visit since. My husband earned platinum on it. I am 750 points from Diamond. If it is bad for the casino I can't tell from my comps. I had a host contact me right after I played that machine. I have had other host also call me when I have played it at their casino. I get about every perk I could want without using a host.

Years ago I won $28,800 on a double Diamond slot machine. It just about ruined my gambling. I know longer had fun. Any win less than $28,800 was a disappointment. I find 3 reel slots boring now, even if there is a bigger chance to win big. I just want to have fun and enjoy the perks on the way.

All that to call bullshit...that's some serious mental hoop jumping to try and make $100 worth of of cash @ $6 a pull turn into $16,000 worth of coin in on a machine that, at an absolute best, has a payback of 80%-82%.

    3,850 points on $100 bankroll?

Okay, that means you played some $19,000 through that machine. The only way that could have happened is if you won alot of stuff along the way. $500 here, $1,000 there, etc etc. Many times.

Tell us more about this event.

True, but its not really for me to judge if it did or didn't happen.

More the point of my post was that if it did happen it was such a long shot event, like on par with playing video poker and hitting three or four royal flushes in a three hour session, that whether it happened or not one would be totally wasting their time trying to find a game with similar play because while there might be similar stories they'll be purely anecdotal accounts of extreme cases of luck.

I've found that I can usually rack up some decent points on the Hangover slots. Pop in a twenty and play at $2-4 a pull, and I usually get enough back on each spin plus an occasional $30-40 win that I can usually pick up 30 to upwards of 100 TCs (obviously 30 is more the norm than 100). Eventually I lose it all, but slots like the Hangover you can usually slowly bleed and pick up points. The max bet on those is 6 bucks, and the Alan Jackpot is usually only around 500-600 dollars, so while the hold may be high, the jackpot isn't high, so you're more likely to pick up smaller wins along the way. Also 100 play VP is usually a good one as well. VP doesn't pay as well, but if you get a decent run of luck, you can sit on a machine for quite a while before losing your buy in.

To answer your original question, there are no magical games that will allow you to play longer and rack up more points than another. You may get lucky here or there, but it isn't happening long term. If you could manipulate the slot point system, so could eveyrone else, and in the end the casinos would get taken advantage of and close.

This for the most part is true. However, you have to take into account that two slot machines with the same payback (let's say 95%) could have completely different hit rates and variance. Let's assume one of them has a progressive jackpot, and a lot of high "non-progressive" jackpots. The other one has a high jackpot of 1600 credits with no progressive. While they have the same payback, you're more likely to get more time played and coin in on the slot without the progressive and high jackpots, because those large payouts don't need to be taken into account on the payback. The slot with a high payout of 1600 credits is going to hit smaller amounts more frequently, which reduces the variance and should theoretically allow you to play longer without burning through your buy in, and thus allowing for more coin-in on an equal buy in.

I think someone that is not lucky can't understand some one that is. This is not the most rare thing I ever did gambling. I am not looking for a machine that will earn me 3,800 on $100. I know that was I was lucky on that sitting. But I have also had long sessions giving me a lot of points at other times. Not just me but my Husband too. I have played that machine long enough to know when I am not being lucky and I do not have a connection with the machine. I know to walk away.

I don't have to prove anything to anyone. If you don't believe me that is fine. I don't know how to do all the calculations and math of it. I don't need to know that. I use gut instincts when I play, not math.

With American Idol you have stack attack wins and wilds, judges pick bonus, the golden ticket bonus, and the vote for your favorite number pick bonus. If you play fast at $6 your multiplier goes from 15 to 30. To earn 3,800 all of those things have to be working. At no time did I ever have what I call a big win based on my $6 bet. I did get many of what the game calls a big win which was anywhere from $60 to $400 on that day. It was more of a roller coaster during my play. The highest I ever got was $800 and the lowest was $0 with the seconds counting as the bonus round saved me. It was up and down over and over for 5 1/2 hours.

The biggest single win I have had on American Idol was at Venetian at $480. I had the Simon stack attack with many 5's. The whole screen turned orange.

On my last trip I did have a long session on Hangover with a $16 ticket at $6. I played about 3 1/2 hours. The highest I got was $600. Nothing big but it let me play. I just did not feel I earned as many points as if I was playing AI on the same amount of money bet.

I am not one that thinks a machine is cold or hot. I believe in luck. I also like having some control of the outcome with picks.

Of course you were lucky to play this long only putting $100 in the machine. But for the 'doubters' of your story the math works out. At $6/spin and 600 spins/hour it would take you about 5.24 hours to put $19,000 coin through.

It is potentially a valid point for seekers of tier credits with various places to seek games with the more frequent if smaller wins that extend the initial investment. Another one that I can think of is something like wolf run. It frequently pays just less than the bet amount.

Probably not a long run good idea as others and the OP have acknowledged, but for point seekers I'm not sure the suggestion of best payback percentage is the correct one. Those tend to pay back that way due to more frequent "jackpots" but you do have to hit the jackpots for that payback percentage to have any validity. With the other type of game, you're guaranteed to get plenty of small wins which can extend the coin in.

I'd also have to echo the 50-100 play VP. My dad quite likes those ones when sitting down for drinks because of the slow bankroll bleed due to the large number of small payouts.
