Cosmopolitan Take 2: Fun in the Sun 7/23 - 7/26

This was our (wife and I) 8th trip to Vegas, first time in the summer (we usually go fall, winter or spring). We had stayed at The Cosmopolitan one time prior with less than acceptable service, but we wanted to give it a second shot and also try out cabanas at all the pools that they have. We were glad we did. Hands down the most Epic time we have had there and there have been a few.

Flight arrived around 9:30 AM and the airport empty so we quickly got our bags and cabbed it over to Cosmo and were there by 10. I Checked in with 20$ sandwich and was upgraded from Terrace Studio to one-bedroom with fountain view on 58th floor - first score! Took our luggage up, changed into bathing suits and checked into our cabana at Boulevard pool. Nice cabana, stocked fridge, flat screen, ceiling fan, nice view of strip, comfy furniture etc...It came with 4 loungers near the water and a raft. We were hungry so we ordered some appetizers (fruit cocktail, shrimp cocktail, guac etc) and a few mimosas and bloody mary's to start off on the right foot. Ok, I admit I had a few drinks on the plane but those don't count. We lounged in the water for a while until our drinks were finished then proceeded to order more Champagne (interested to see that it came in a 6 pack of cans with straws! - nothin but the finest lol). We then lounged in the water for a while as it was very quiet this early. Lunch time rolled around and we ordered some fish tacos and lettuce wraps (remember this) and a few more drinks. By the time we finished lunch it started to get more crowded and we mingled and played pool with some folks we met who were in town for sales seminar. At this point it was getting hot (north of 100) and it only seemed right to order a few "adult" ice cream treats from Neapolitan. A few more hours of sun and drinks and it was getting close to 6:00 PM. 7 hours of drinking and eating in the sun had worn us so we asked for our check. Our waitress notified us that we still had 270$ to spend to meet our 500$ f&b (food and beverage) quota. We were quite surprised considering all the drinking and eating we did over the past 7 hours. We ordered a decent bottle of Moet (took it to go) some more food and a few more drinks and closed out. After cleaning up, we cabbed it over to Freemont to try out the zip line. Passing by the D I could not resist and had to go in and gamble a little. We played some roulette and 5$ craps for a few hours before heading upstairs to checkout the Sigma Derby game. There was a great group of people up there enjoying the game and reminiscing about playing the game "in the old days". We walked around Freemont afterwards and ventured in to a nearby gentleman's club to relax and have a few drinks. By this time it was about 2:00 am (4:00) chicago time and we soon headed back to Cosmo to catch some z's

Woke up early. I don't know what it is about Vegas, but I cannot sleep past 7:00 AM. Had breakfast at "The Henry". It was a little overpriced (50$) for a breakfast, but we were starved. Went back and changed and then headed to Marquee Day club to check into our cabana. We got there around 10:00 and waited for the host. It was just the 2 of us again and we had a small cabana booked but nobody was there yet so the host upgraded us to one of the "grand cabanas" with the private infinity pool in front of it - second sweet score in as many days! I showed my appreciation to the host with a crisp 50. It was a nice size cabana with a/c, tv, stocked fridge, plenty of seating and the private pool obviously being the best part. Definitely recommend it to anyone who goes there. We ordered a bottle of Goose for the two of us and some appetizers and then more fish tacos and lettuce wraps. As the day went on the party picked up. Plenty of drinking, dancing and music throughout. Eventually one woman removed her top and started a chain reaction of falling tops (it was bound to happen!). At one point I got up to use the bathroom and returned to the cabana and my wife was in the infinity pool chatting with 4 topless women. It was quite the surprise to me. I hung out with their boyfriends/husbands etc until they notified us that it was almost 6:00 pm and they were closing. We settled our tab, headed back to the room and changed for the evening. We headed down strip to Flamingo to shoot some craps. The table was slow for a while until there was a hot roll or 2 and we started pressing bets and walked out with a decent chunk of change. We went over to Planet Hollywood for a while and played some Big 6, some more craps until we decided to head back and go to bed around 3:00 AM.

Again up at 7:00. 5 hours of sleep is fine in Vegas. Walked over to PH for a Starbucks then headed to Bamboo to secure our day bed. I kindly checked with the host there if they had any cabanas available for upgrade and she said there were some available. I offered her 300$ (f&b) min and she accepted (usual rate is 400$), so we jumped on it - third sweet score. This pool is definitely more laid back then the Boulevard or Marquee Day Club. Almost the opposite in fact. Few people were drinking, more people were in the water swimming and the there were kids and families there. We immediately ordered mimosas and bloodies. This day was the hottest of our stay...105 or so and the sun was very strong that day. I had never felt such heat before. We covered up in spf 50 and spent a lot of time in the water. We drank, ate (fish tacos and lettuce wraps) and swam for most of the day. this was our "chill day" since we were leaving the next afternoon. Sometime during the afternoon there was a rescue of window washers whose equipment failed at Vdara. All we could see was helicopters flying around and the news reports of it on the tv. Around 5:00 we were both burnt to a crisp so we asked for our check. The waitress notified us that we still had a 100$ to spend to meet our f&b minimum so we ordered a bottle of champagne and took it to go.

We cleaned up in the room and went over to Aria. I played some craps and she wandered around. The table was dead, it was basically me and another guy shooting, so when my wife arrived the dealers let her be an honorary shooter. She had a couple decent rolls so as a joke me and the other guy were tossing her red chips from time to time. We then cashed out then headed back to Flamingo for some roulette and then some more craps. No luck at either so we proceeded to Planet Hollywood. Played some big 6, then spotted a wild craps table - lively crew and people from all backgrounds having a great time. We played for hours. There were a couple of hot rolls and at one point my chip rail was almost filled with reds (big deal for a low roller like me lol). I learned a ton about the game from the guy next to us and got somewhat adventurous in my play. After a string of quick 7 out's we headed back and had breakfast at Cosmo (The Henry again) and then crashed around 3:00 AM.

7:00 AM came and I was wide awake so I headed down to the craps table at Cosmo while wifey got some more shut eye. The mins were 5$ so I had a good time placing all types of bets. There were some "highish" rollers there throwin around green chips and another guy that was drunk out of his mind attempting to play (hey it was 7:30 AM...it's to be expected lol). All in all I had some fun and got a few Irish coffees out of the deal. Wife came down around 9:00 and we grabbed breakfast (yes, The Henry again) then back over to Planet Hollywood to find some action. By 11:00 we were exhausted and had to head back to Cosmopolitan and check out from our room. Our flight was at 2:00, so we had some time to kill and played the electronic craps game (with the annoying "push the button" sound byte) for about a half hour or so then cabbed it to the airport. We got there around 12:30 and were notified that our 2:00 flight was delayed until 5:30. Ugh, Spirit airlines! That is how we abruptly realized that our epic vacation had come to an end.

Thanks for the TR - can I ask - you mention going down to Freemont and going into the "D" - upstairs for Sigma Derby - NICE - BUT - what is the "D"???

 

The "D" is the casino formerly known as Fitzgerald's (or, the Fitz). The "D" is now owned by the same folks who run the Golden Gate. The "D" is located at 301 E. Fremont.

 

You guys must be young I would not have any energy left after drinking all day in the hot sun. Nice report, the cabanas sound great!!

 

We are early 30's. Definitely can't drink like we used and we will probably never do anything like this again...but like they say "Vegas!!!"

 

Kick-Ass trip!

You really did it up right and sounds like you might need a beach vacation and a week in betty ford clinic to detox the liver and get back to normal living. That is the way Vegas should be done.

lol yep. I've been detoxing all weekend to recover. 4 days in vegas'll do it to ya.
