max bet per bet at Planet Hollywood?

Went to Planet Hollywood and placed a single bet on WNBA game last month at Planet Hollywood. originally I wanted to place a bet of $900, person working the ticket had to get permission in the back from a supervisor. However, he said max he can do is $500. It was a surprise to me as a $500 max bet isn't even much compared to other big winning tickets posted online. I'm wondering is this normal or they only limit this because of WNBA? How about other sports?? How about other properties? I know I could just walk to another property and place separate bets, but just wanted to know what's up with this.

 

the reason books have limits is to limit their exposure on one side. in a perfect world the book has the same amount of money on both sides of every game and they just collect the vig without any risk. but of course it never works out that way, they always have one side that's bet heavier. however, they want to limit that as much as possible so they don't get hurt too bad on one game.

the WNBA sees almost no betting action whatsoever. so they don't want to take a big bet on one side because chances are they won't have any bets on the other side to balance it out. you'll find that most of the small action sports have very low limits like $500 or even less. but for NFL you can put down $10k with no problems and even more than that with special permission because they have a lot of action on both sides.

You tried to bet it at the CET family of books.They are one of the ones least likely to take that bet.I had to get supervisor approval once for a bet of around $300 on an NBA total from a strip sportsbook.
If it doesn't involve the NFL the Vegas sportsbooks run scared.They all have to answer to the "bean counters" upstairs.

 

Were you staying at Planet Hollywood? Or just went there to bet on the game?

At many of the sportsbooks the maximum bet they will take is $500 unless you are a guest at the hotel or they get permission from a manager, or its a special event (IE: Superbowl).

They do that to keep the professional sports bettors and their runners out of the sportsbook.

If you are a guest at the hotel they will often let you bet more because then its highly unlikely you are a pro or working for one (a professional bettor isn't going to spend an extra $100+ on a room to try and squeeze a couple of hundred more in bets through the sportsbook).

 

Yeah, I think $900 on an WNBA game is large action. It all depends on the game and the action. I layed $6500 on an NFL playoff game there just two years ago. So PHo definitely will take larger bets than that

i was a guest there. even gave them my total rewards card. going back next weekend for another trip.... gonna bet on mlb hopefully they'll take more than $500 per bet.

offshore accounts definitely have different limits depending on the book.

This is not really true. Being a hotel guest has very little to do with whether or not you are able to bet a certain amount.

Heck, I have been with friends who made very large bets at Ballys/Paris and never gave players card or indicated that they were hotel guests.

Also, the $500 limit statement is not completely accurate either. It has more to do with the type of bets/sports, etc. than whether you are a guest.

AT CET, and perhaps true with some other sports book, your bet history with them, via your players card, etc. has more impact on your limit than anything else.

My experiences have been that we have been able to make $5000 football bets at CET. I am sure others have made bigger bets, so I really don't know for sure when the $500 max bet comes into play.

It could be that the betting agent is new and has a lower wage limit??? Not sure. I just remembered one time when I cashed out some chips at a cage for not a large amount and the cashier had to get a supervisor to approve. I asked her why for such a small amount and she said that it was due to her being a new employee and had a lower limit.

Reminds me of the time I tried to lay 300 on the Cubs at the Frontier back in the early 90's. The most they would take was 200. I told them I knew locals in Wisconsin at the time that would cover 500.
