I was wondering if someone might be able to give me an idea of amount of slot play it would take to warrant getting food covered. If you already have the room comped, staying 4 days, sign for all your food, and average 100 day for the meals...thanks so much.

It depends where you are playing...but for a rough estimate:

Casinos comp up to 40% of theoretical loss. They're getting more and more stingy...so its safer to assume 30%. Theoretical loss varies by slot machine, but a safe bet is a 5% theoretical loss rate (that's conservative, 8% might be more accurate, but let's use conservative estimates).

Doing the math, that is about 1.5% of your coin-in. Room comp rates vary by property, but let's use $150/nt in comp value. You're looking for $250/day in comps. That means roughly $16,666 in coin-in. If you were playing a 3-coin $1 machine, that would be roughly 3 hrs of play. On a penny machine with a $2 bet, its more like 4.5 hrs. Don't lose sight that your expected loss for this much play is almost $1000/day for $250 in comps.

thanks, now I have an idea of what to expect. I would never play for the comps just good to know what it would take.

Big variance by casino. Where will you be playing?

We will be playing at CET. We are staying at Bally's and will do most of our gambling there. Maybe a bit at Flamingo since my daughter will be staying there at same time. This will be my 2nd trip to vegas this year, staying at Bally's. Last year in October when we were there, I made platinum in a day. Not that I was trying it just happened. So my tier points were zero'd out sometime after first of year. With 2 day vegas trip in April, and 2 day tahoe trip I have 5133 tier points. For trip in Sept we are comped 5 nights north tower, and I have a mailer for 500 cash, and 100 food. I was recently contacted by a host and I really did not want to embarrass myself by asking for anything more than I really earned. I will be covering expenses for my daughter (room and food) so every little bit helps!

If staying at CET, the formula changes quite a bit. Discretionary comps as I described above are replaced with the reward credit system. Once you exhaust your RC's, your host can issue discretionary comps...but it's not at the same 30% of theo that I described above...more like 10% (more if your actual loss exceeds your theo loss). It appears your average about 1300 RC's per day of gambling (based on your 4 nights of play so far this year). That's $6500 coin-in on slots. Assuming you keep that rate of play over your 5 night visit, you can expect to earn 6500 RC's on the trip, good for $65 in comp dollars. Adding that to the $51 you already have gives you $116 to spend. Then the host can probably take care of another $60-70 or so.
