I've never heard of this and didn't see it when I googled it. What is this one all about?

So Emperor's Challenge has the bonus bet but adds a couple of crappy Pai Gow hands to the paytable? I'd like to know where these games are as well.

    The M!!!!!!!

It's Fortune Pai Gow but with ANOTHER optional side bet. The side bet pays a bonus based on how crappy your Pai Gow hand is. An Ace High Pai Gow pays 3 to 1 and there's up to, if I remember right, the 9 high Pai Gow which pays like 500 to 1 or something.

I have HORRIBLE luck at Pai Gow getting good cards and was making a killing at this game strictly because of how junky my cards were. I think I got like 8hands of Pai Gow in a row once.

There's another part of this game which I think is really stupid and I only went for it one time. They offer you another hand which you have the option to buy for the same ante as your regular spot. I think they call it the Dragon Hand. But it sucks, because you can't bet any of the side bonuses for it, so if you get 3 of a kind or better it can really piss you off.

Anyway, I LOVE this variation of PAI GOW (I've only seen it at the M) and recommend it to someone who has a knack at getting horrible cards or who just likes more "carny bets" (I LOVE carny side bets).

Sorry, again, just to clarify . . . the "Pai Gow" hands are not added to the normal fortune paytable. It's a completely separate (and optional) bet.

You will always play the normal Ante bet (sorry if that's not actually what it is called) and then you have a circle to the left and right of that one where you have the option to play the Fortune bet (this is the one that gives you 50 to 1 for the straight flush 500 to one for the Royal, etc.) and/or the "Emperor" Pai Gow bet which gives all the funny Pai Gow bonus payouts.

I have played this game at Stateline at the Primm Valley Casino and Whiskey Petes (dont know whey they dont have it at Buffalo Bills). This is my favorite Pai Gow game. At Primm, there is also no commission which makes it even better plus it's a $5 table during the day and on slow weekends!

They have had it at Bill's, although the last time I was there in June 2012 I forgot to check to see if it was still there.

Very interesting thread, thanks for posting. Pai Gow used to be one of my favorite games when I lived in Las Vegas because your money usually lasted a long time. They didn't have this new side bet then but will look for it next time I am there. I did get 2 9 high Pai Gows in a row one time at Barbary Coast and dealer talked pit into getting me a BC baseball cap from gift store! (think I would have preferred the $500 payout, lol)

I don't want to hijack the thread but am wondering if there is enough people interested in Pai Gow Poker that we could start a group here for discussions concerning just Pai Gow, good places to play, strategy, tournaments, etc? I have only talked with one other person on this board about Pai Gow, but seems from here there are more crazy people like me that are addicted to the game.

Just start any thread you want in this Casino Gaming section about Pai Gow. Lots of people will be happy to read and respond. No need for a separate group.

I played this in april at both the Golden Nugget and NYNY. I never bet the paigow side bet though waste of my $1 chip! I do often take the Dragon hand though especially if I get a bad hand in my main hand to try and break even :p

Thanks, Pinny. I didn't realize it's a separate side bet from the regular Fortune bet. After hitting a royal my last trip for $750 off the Fortune bet, I've come to the conclusion that dropping a $5 every hand is probably worth it. I don't know if I would throw an extra $5 for Pai Gow hands, even though that's when you want it the most. If I'm going to throw $10 a hand away on the off chance I get a really good or a really bad hand, I might as well be playing Let It Ride or Mississippi Stud.

I hope to play this game next week. I still remember being dealt a natural royal playing his as a progressive game that paid 10% at Belterra casino. Unfortunately the progressive was hit recently and only at 33,000 so my 10% was nice, but not as nice as the 100k progressive it usually was at.

The progressive at the IP in Biloxi was around $291,000 when I was there. (Paid 1/10 of the JP on 5-Aces, not the Royal.) According to the Wizard Of Odds the players had the advantage on this bet with this large jackpot. (See 'G3 Progessive).

I've never got a table progressive.

What really pisses me off is that at 3-Card-Poker I actually got the QKA Spaded twice in a matter of two nights . . . . but it was in Panama and Puerto Rico, neither casino had the jackpot (this payoff is usually about $3000 at the LV tables). It was still nice to hit it (paid same as a regular straight flush) but the negative side of me says that my luck was used up on those hands so I'll never see it again.

I can be a real sour puss sometimes.

Pai Gow is my favorite too!!

Pai Gow is one of my favorite games too!!! I play it at the casinos here in Washington, but have never found an open table in Vegas. Love the Pai Gow side bet as I too usually get Pai Gow :)

    Really?

They're all over the place. I've never had any trouble getting a seat, and many times I have the table to myself.

This is one twist, though (I guess it applies for some of the other 3-Card games and such too) . . . . if you're playing the fortune bets it's actually BETTER to play at a full table.

They have that "Envy" bonus, so with 5 or 6 players you got a much better chance of getting a piece of the good jackpots (you get $5 for someone elses Straight Flush, $50 or more for their Royal, etc.). If that stupid 7-Card-Super-Royal whatever hand ever hits I'm going to so mad if the table next to me is celebrating while I'm sitting by myself at the next one.
