    My Trip Report

    Pre Trip
Myself and my Wife both early 50's decided to plan a 4 day get away to Vegas. we have not been since 2008.
We have always stayed at the Mirage in a Tower suite. This time we decided on a 1 Bedroom penthouse suite as we knew this would be our only vacation this year due to our work . Just day before I was to make reservations 88 Year old Mother-in-law said she wanted to go with us :rolleyes2:. So I booked a 2 Bedroom Penthouse suite at the Mirage. (Total for 3 nights= $2700.00)
Did some checking online for flights and found we can fly from Monterey Ca. Direct to Vegas Rt for 3 people $600.00 on Aligent Air. All flights we found from San Jose (45 min's away) required a stop and $900.00 lowest price for 3 people. Flyiong out of Monterey was great, 15 min's from home and check in was a breeze. Flight was on time and were off to Vegas.

Arrived on time in Vegas and Limo and driver from Mirage was waiting for us in baggage area (Included for Penthouse suite guests). MIL had no idea about limo but loved it none the less.
Arrived at hotel and Bellman had a wheelchair waiting for MIL. Check in at VIP lounge was very easy, IN and out in 10 Min's.
Got to the suite and checked it out. Nice room at first glance, But once we settled in and looked around saw the room had some maintance issues and were not talking minor issues ,
I went back to VIP checkin and spoke with them about the room and they said they were full , Had no more 2 bedroom suites avail, But would look into the issues. OK thats fine I think, Not a problem..

Off we go to get some mixers for wife and myself and Juice for MIL.
Walked the strip so MIL could see some things as she had not ever been to vegas, NOTE: Wife and I walked, MIL got pushed in wheelchair, A wheelchair on Vegas strip is a task in it's self we found out.
After about 2 hours of the strip MIL decided it was time for her to eat (Only 6:30 P.M.)and she wanted to go back to the hotel, OK I think, "Hey MOM don't yoou want to eat somewhere closer ?) NOPE she wants the Mirage... OK, So by the time were back at the hotel it's now almost 8:00 P.M. and MIL is upset cuse she is eating sooooooooo late...... Oh this is gonnna be a great weekend, I can see it now... I NEED A DRINK.....
MIL wanted something fast because of the time so we decided on Cravings ...

More to come..... Your gonna love it...

    Thursday Evening 7/19
Got into Cravings Buffet pretty quick as there was no line ...
Got seated and the kind lady asked if we wanted anything to drink, "Yup you bet I do, I'll have a Jack and coke" MIL.... "WHY YOU DRINKING ALREADY ? WHERE IS MY MENU ? I NEED TO SEE WHAT TO EAT",
No mom, this is a bufett, there are no menu's ....
MIL... " WHAT KIND OF PLACE YOU BRING ME TO, NO MENUS, HOW DO I KNOW WHAT I WANT.. ? "(see where this is going, It's gonna be a LOOOOONG weekend.) Note: MIL is full blood "GERMAN WOMEN"

So we explain in as best as words that can be spoke , We will go and see what is offered and bring MIL a plate , So off we go and get a bit of this and that for Mom, Bring it to her and think ok this should make her happy.
    WRONG....
She decided that it's too late to eat heavy food, Just wants a small salad and water...WITH NO ICE CUSE IT"S COLD IN VEGAS...
You gota be kidding me, COLD IN VEGAS, It's frickin 90 degrees outside..
"hey lady, wheres my drink i think, I need it fast...
OK, Mom, I'll go get you a salad, And I'll eat your food that we brought.
NOPE>>>>Not gona happen..... My drink came while we were getting her food, And see told the waitress I didnt need that , take it away and bring me coffee...:grrr:
    Me"Hey why do i have coffee, I ordered a drink ?
MIL, "I told them you wanted coffee", You don't want coffee, It's been a long day for you, You look tired".....Drink some coffee....

So after dinner, (AND COFFEE) We get MIL back to room So we can go explore, we make it over to Harrahs and end up in a bar with dueling piano players, Had 2 or 3 or 4 drinks I don't know and then decided it was time to play... I found a Crap table that had been empty the whole time we were in the lounge, I was watching it from the table we had, I saw a couple stop and get ready to play, So I told wife, I'll be right back (NOT) I made a bee line for that table and bought in for 100 dollars, 2 Hours later and a few, OK, LOTS of more drinks, I stumbled away from the table up $400.00, Not to bad of an evening after all.

    END OF DAY ONE.

Too funny!!! I think while MIL was eating her salad, I would have snuck out of Cravings, found the nearest bar, and had a few shots!! I'm glad the day ended well.

Too funny although I feel your pain. Keep it coming!
I would never ever go anywhere with my MIL because that is too much crazy wrapped up in a 4 foot package, plus she suffers from TMB (too many birthdays). I love the woman but "NO"

I feel your pain. My MIL is German as well. The last time we took her to Vegas we reserved at Sensi for a nice meal and after confirming she still wanted to go, she opted for coffee and a bowl of fried rice :rolleyes2:

    Drinking helps :evillaugh

Looking forward to the rest of the report

Well, Dale. Your report is very captivating. We all cannot wait to see how this ends. Considering the MIL, I'm sure you ended up an alcoholic from this trip...

    Day 2

After a rather long night and way too many "FREE" drinks we ended up waking up around 8:00 A.M. Dear MIL was already awake and sitting in the living room waiting for us to get up, Mind you not watching T.V., Nor reading the free newspaper, Just sitting in the dark.
Me, "Mom what are you doing siting in the dark ?"
MIL " What am I supposed to do, It's dark in here" :rolleyes2:
"Well you can turn on the lights or open the drapes"
"Hell, you can turn on the T.V. for that matter"
MIL (gotta love her) "THAT COSTS MONEY, YOU GOT MONEY TO BURN, I DON'T"
Now at this point, Wife comes out of the bedroom and wants to know what is going on, I explain that her mom is just siting in the dark doing nothing but waiting for us to get up.
Wife says and I quote "MOM you can turn on the lights cuse Dale won a little money last night playing craps":confused2:
MIL " How do you win money when your in the bathroom taking a shit"
As for me, when i heard this I wanted to really say what I was think, But just rolled my eyes and went to shower thinking this is gonna be a long weekend, And how many days till we go home...

Once we were all ready to head out for the day, Stupid me asks, What does everyone want to do today... BIG MISTAKE...
MIL.... You know what time it is, I need to eat, I had to wait 2 hours for you to get up, And I had to drink those 2 bottles of water in the fridg waiting for you....
    WOOOOHHHHH.......
You drank water from the fridg ?
You know how much they charge for that. $8.00 each.. For a .50 cent bottle of water.
... Wont turn on lights because it costs money, But you'll drink a over priced bottle of water ? Correction, 2 Bottles ?
Oh it's gonna be a long day..... I NEED A DRINK,
After we got her food, Took her to the Forum Shops at Ceasars, Where she went on a spending spree buying alot of over priced crap that I was going to have to carry, Because she needed to be sure it was safe and she wouldnt "Misplace them"
So we spent a hours there and then went to the Shops at the Venitian
Where she helped the Vegas economy some more, And I as the pack mule was at that point hauling what looked like enough stuff to fill a simi trailer,

Had a late lunch at BLT in the Mirage, And then words to my ears.... MIL wants to take a nap........ YEA>>>>>>>>>>
Got her to the room, And went to the Harrah's casino......Wife just wandered around people watching while I went to play.
I sat down at a Ult. Texas holdem table, Bought in for 200.00 and after about 1 1/2 hours, Realized I was up over 350.00 , Time to cash out, As MIL was awake I was sure and would want to eat... Again.. Close to 5:30 P.M. now..

Now when I am in vegas, We hardly ever eat befor 8:00 P.M. At that time lines are shorter we have found... But we were going to see Bill Cosby at TI and the show started at 8:00, So we knew we had to eat early..
Show was pretty good, Even at 75 years old Bill Cosby still has the humor..

After the show, Made our way back to Mirage and got MIL settled in for the night...
Wife and I went to the casino in search of a drink.. Found a nice little place by the sports book and sat and drank, and reflected on the day......
Wife wanted to make it a not so late night because her and her mom had spa appt. for the next day...
So we called it a night around 1:00 A.M. (No gambling for me this night)

    End of day 2,
    More to come....

    Day 3

Woke up early to sun shinning thru the windows as we made a point of opening the drapes befor going to bed "JUST IN CASE" MIL got up befor us.

As it was she was still sleeping (go figure) Actually she sleep almost an hour longer than expected, Wife even went in to see if she was still breathing as she is 88 years old and you just never know....But alas she was just having a wonderful sleep because she had "a wonderful day " yesterday..
So after getting ready for the day, and food for MIL, Decided to go to the secret garden at the mirage, Wanted to stay close to the hotel as both wife and MIL had spa appt.s at 1:00 P.M. Which ment that I was going to have some free time. Saw the Lions, Tigers and Dolphins and listened to how hot is was outside, But all in all had a nice time..

Spa time had arrived after lunch and told them to call when they were done and we would meet up after.
They left AND SO DID I..
I wondered around the Mirage casino looking for a table to playt at but a;ll the tables just didnt feel right to me, So I went across the street to Harrahs
Found a Ult. Texas Hold-em table and sat down. Bought in for 200.00
and within 10 Mins. hit a full house:cheers::thumbsup:
The lady siting across from me had been in the chair that I sat at and had just moved because she had lost every hand since she sat down 2 hours ago.
Within 3 hands after she said that I got pocket Kings, The flop was KKA:thumbsup: QUADS..... Yup, After winning that hand and being paid 3200.00 The lady left, But I did thank her for moving seats, And offered her 150.00 as a tip, But she didnt want it.. Oh well I tried.
I played some more won a little and colored up at 3665.00, Not to bad a run I think,
I just wondered around some looking for a decent table but none were avail, That I wanted to sit at, So I just did some people watching and had a Drink or 2 while waiting for the call from wife.

Once there spa was finished, 4 hours later, I asked if they had a nice time,
Wife said, "Hope you won some money" I said why, She then preceeded to tell me what MIL and her had at spa and all she bought .(Easy come, easy go)
Oh well, I am still in the Black as far as gambling goes. Glad I had a few Jack and Cokes in me...The amount didnt hurt as much.

Went to dinner at Carnigie Deli and then went to the Terry Fator show at the Mirage, Great show, If you can go and see it...
After the show, Got MIL settled in for the night and went looking for some action downstairs..
Mirage was packed wall to wall people (Sat. Night) so We went back to Harrahs looking to add to my winnings, But you know how it goes, Within about 1 Hour, I had lost 300.00 and was not about to go chasing that money back...
So we found a spot to listen to music and have a few drinks, As we were going to make it a early night, Leaving Las Vegas in the morning.

    End of day 3

OMG this thread hits so close to home for me. I watch my wifes 98 year old grandmother do this to my MIL on a regular basis. Since the apple didn't fall far from the tree I fear this is what I'm in for in a few years. BTW, not sure if its better or worse than German (which my family has quite a bit of) but the wifes Grandmother is full blooded Spanish!

This train wreck hurts but I can't stop watching (and crying a little bit as you predict my future)!

I love all these trip reports and you all do such a great time of filling the time between Vegas trips. Thank you and everyone else to takes the time and effort to post them.
