I'm headed to Vegas (!) in a few weeks for work. Work has me there 2 nights and we're staying at Encore. Of course, if I have a work sponsored flight out, I'm going to make the most of it and add an extra night on the front end as a little bonus. I will most likely be solo on the extra night unless I can convince my boss to come out early as well. The extra night will be a Sunday.

I usually stay at Bellagio/Aria/Cosmo and end up spending most of my time in that area. Since I'm only looking to book 1 night, I'm thinking I should stay somewhere new. So here are my realistic options...

    1. Golden Gate - have an offer for their new suites, plus their usual $50 free play and $25 food comp. I've never stayed downtown and I like the Golden Gate, but normally only spend a few hours there. It'd certainly be a change for me to stay downtown, and I'm a little worried that I'll end up just cabbing it back to the strip if I get bored downtown, which wouldn't be the end of the world, but I could just stay at...

    2. MGM - Never stayed there, have the corporate offer for a free room, no free play or anything, but it's the one "big" strip casino at which I've never stayed and while I don't love it there, I'd be willing to give it a shot.

    3. Encore - This would involve sucking it up and paying for a room at $142 plus tax etc. But, the good news would be that I wouldn't have to move hotels, which I don't mind, and it's way nicer than GG or MGM, so maybe I should just bite the bullet. And I know this is a good price for Encore. I've stayed at Wynn, but not Encore.

Normally I don't mind paying for a nice room, I usually dont get free rooms at Bellagio, Cosmo, or Aria, but pay and stay there anyway. But since this is a free flight and a bonus night, maybe I should go with the theme and keep it free? I could also get a free night at Mandalay Bay and Monte Carlo, but I'm eliminating them as I've stayed at both and would rather stay at MGM since it'd be new to me.

Decisions, decisions. Regardless, I know I can't go wrong, but what would you do?

I like the MGM Grand so that would be my choice. It's free right. And it's only for one night. Free is good!

If it were me, my entire stay would be at Encore, and here's why:

    1. This is the property you will be on anwyay. No sense in packing up and moving after just one night from another property to this one. For convenience sake.

    2. $142 is all you'd be out for the entire trip (hotel-wise). Your employer is footing the rest. Score!

    3. MGM to Encore is like a hamburger to Filet Mignon. Not knocking MGM because frankly it does have its merits. But Encore . . . come on!

Stay at Encore. Enjoy yourself instead of spending time packing, moving, unpacking, etc

I don't mind the inconvenience of moving, the trade off is spending a night in a hotel that I normally wouldn't to check it out and change things up.

That said, I'm leaning towards going with the majority and just paying for Encore for the extra night and enjoying my extra day. I don't have to be anywhere for work until drinks Monday evening before dinner, so not having to move mid-day Monday will make that really feel like a full free day.

What time are you flying in? If you have a later flight, GG might be a good way to stay downtown and experience something new while not having much more than your typical few hours downtown. Besides they're giving money and food. That's a lot of shrimp cocktails

That was my initial line of thought, I don't get in until about 7pm on Sunday, so I have essentially 24 hours before "work" starts. Looks like you'll be at Wynn the same time I'm out there, good luck!

But I found a promo code that has Encore down to $118, I'm going to jump on it. I'm looking forward to spending some time there as a guest. I've always enjoyed gambling there, and I know I'll spend a lot of time at my usual favorites (bellagio area) on my upcoming annual fall trip with the guys.

This trip was on relatively short notice and it's coming up quick, I'm pretty excited about it even with the work commitments.

    Cheers.

The only really nice downtown hotel is the Golden Nugget. You can't even compare the Encore to GG. The Encore is luxury and GG = motel 8.
That being said playing downtown is a blast, casinos there in general are much looser than the strip. and have a lot of lower limit tables to choose from. If your not doing well
at one casino, its just a short walk to the next casino.

Encore! Changing hotels is a drag, and the Encore is about as good as it gets in Vegas aside from quibbles about location.

The Encore casino is my favorite. Not that crowded (most people end up in the Wynn casino instead), roomy, good ventilation, and typically has some decent blackjack (H17 3:2 RSA DAS LS) at $10-15, though they'll jack it up on really busy nights. They also have S17 at $25-100 depending on time and traffic.

The price goes down if you factor in transport from MGM to Wynn also. Or transport from downtown to Wynn. (I'd do the downtown one just for kicks for me!) Once you start adding in a taxi ride, or pay for a monorail ride & then hoof it the rest of the way from Harrah's, or fight hauling a suitcase on the bus.......It makes Wynn seem like a bargain.

I went ahead and booked the extra night at Encore for $118+ tax/fees. Really looking forward to it. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, this is an unplanned trip for me in that it just came up for work, so it feels like I'm ahead already as this is a "bonus" trip.

I really do want to like downtown, but everytime I spend a few hours there I end up wanting to get back to the strip. I might be going at the wrong time of day as it always feels dead up there.

Looks like we are hitting SW for a dinner on work, no complaints here!

I'd stay at Encore. One night isn't enough to really experience a new hotel.
