Tell me if I am over reacting

On my first day of a five day trip, I buy into a $10 craps table for $300. It was about 10 PM on Sunday and there were two other people at my table, one playing only the pass and the other playing pass with two place bets.

I was playing my usual - $10 pass with double odds, two or three place bets for the minimum, pressing up after a win. We were playing this way for bout 20 minutes, mostly losing, winning occassionally.

The cocktail waitress had come just as the shooter threw a craps. I was distracted and missed replacing my passline bet. The shooter set the 4 ad immediately made the point. I commented to the dealer "Damn, I kinda wish you would have mentioned to me that I needed a pass line bet."

He got bent out of shape. "I can't bet for you. I can't keep up with what I am doing and watch your bets too'. He proceeded to get sarcastic. After the next come out he says to me "Look, you don't have a 4 or a 5 or a nine. You also don't have any hardways. Do you want them? How about a horn bet?" He went on and on for about a minute.

I colored up immediately and said " A good dealer will help out a player. The table is not that busy - in fact it is dead. Maybe now I know why!"

I spent the next week in every casino up and down the strip, but avoided the Bellagio. It is a shame - I stayed there several times and it was always one of my favorite places to play. Not anymore.

I would have felt aggrieved if the dealer had not pointed out something as obvious as not having a bet down for the come out roll, assuming that I usually had a pass line bet. This is the sort of thing that helps the crew earn their tips so I would have handled it that way rather than complaining, which will not change things.

He could have gotten a pass for his first comment..he had a job to do..... Yea. OK. But to continue the sarcasm? That was over the line.

I think he was a jerk, but you could have just placed the point for $30 if you wanted to bet it. It would have paid you $9 more than the bet you forgot to make.

I know that - but I did not even notice it until after it had hit.

I only had one bad experience with a dealer at the Craps table and it sucks the fun out. The dealers attitude can add lots or take lots away from a game. You did right by coloring up and leaving. Too many options in Vegas to be were there isn't a good vibe.

With that said, I am always impressed with how much these Craps dealer are able to track everything going on at the table especially if its a full table. I am also grateful when they point out things to me and remind me to place a bet, replace a bet just lost and stuff. Of course it only helps the casino make more money too. At the same time, if they don't remind me or point something out I don't feel its their place. So, you missed this one Pass bet. What is the big deal. If you really wanted too you could have placed a bet on the 4 to win anyway which is what I would have done.

there's bad dealers everywhere. not sure i would swear off an entire casino for one bad dealer. but i like it, i wish more people would stop playing at the B. would make it much less crowded for me.

I do agree that it is not the dealer's responsibility, but many crap dealers do remind players of missing bets. Based on the ops comment, he just mentioned that it would have been nice to have been reminded. The table was not crowded.

The dealer acted like a jerk on his first reply and confirmed he indeed was a jerk on his second unsolicited comments. I too would have colored up and left.

I think some of the most dry, dull, boring etc dealers (BJ) are at the Bellagio. I could lose $1,000 at a fun table with an awesome dealer and not care, but even losing $100 at a table with an inert dealer I can get ticked. But yeah, some of the Bellagio dealers are awful. I play a decent amount at the Cosmo because of the dealers. I dont chase comps so I know that I wont get comped alot at Cosmo, but at least I can have fun, even if I am losing. The dealers at Cosmo comment and laugh at the Bellagio dealers for being so dull. Heck, I have run into a few who barely spoke english.

You were both wrong. You shouldn't have made the "reminder" comment. He shouldn't have been so sarcastic.

In my opinion you probably should not have made that comment. That said, a good dealer would have said something to remind a player when it's a bet you've been making. There's no excuse for him being a prick..there's too many other places to give your business to and enjoy your vacation. Even if mgmt doesn't care, I'd have told someone just so they knew they have a dickhead for an employee.

Craps can move pretty fast, especially if only a few players at the table.

CW must have been a real "looker", as they usually are, lol.

I've missed a few bets myself just by saying hello and smiling at them...

Yeah, that dealer was a jerk.:Þ

Even at a $2 BJ table a dealer will sweep the table and stop at you if you don't have a bet out and ask if you'd like to place a bet. At a non crowded table, the dealer should have held up for a second and reminded you.

Bad dealer – no question. I’ll agree with some of the others that perhaps the “woulda been nice” comment was a bit much*. But his reaction was far, far worse.

I’ve never been impressed with Bellagio’s craps crews. I enjoy playing blackjack there. But playing at their craps tables is akin to popping an Ambien, IMO.

*Unless you had been tipping well, in which case, I believe far STRONGER language should have been employed.

Yeah, I would have told a pit boss about his behavior. I understand craps is a fast game, but the fact that he gave you that attitude is unacceptable at a place like that.

Of course its always the dealers fault when gamblers dont place the right bet or pay attention at the table to what is going on.

They are stone sober and do it everyday after all so what would one expect?

Sounds very similar to a recent thread.

I feel that dealer was completely out of line with the way they responded and then continued to make comments - even if what you said may also have been somewhat out of line, you're the customer though - and it's a casino dealer's job to deal with all kinds of people all day long, many of whom aren't going to be in the best of moods because they're losing. If that dealer is so thin-skinned that they react that way to one comment [that really wasn't all the bad], they really shouldn't be a dealer in the first place then IMO.

Plus, for most dealers [at least the good ones, anyway], looking out for their players is an integral part of the job because it's in their own vested interest to help see that their players win, because winners are also usually tippers - so it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility for you to have had past experiences where dealers looked out for you in similar situations to the one you described and that therefore you expected them to do so also.

I see this comment from you a lot, but without the low/mid rollers your B would not be able to provide you with the comps you so desire. It's a double edged sword. I'm sure management and your host love the money you lose, but unfortunately it's not your play that keeps the lights on. It's the masses that keep the comps flowing for the gamblers.

I don't mean this post as disrespect, but I do feel disrespected when high rollers act like I'm being an inconvenience just for being in their presence. If you don't like the masses, gamble at higher levels and go play in some of the private rooms available.
