I would like to devote one full day on my next trip to the classic Vegas experience. Where would you go and what would you do around the Las Vegas valley on your "Old School Vegas" day/night? (Food, events, places/people to see, places to hang out, etc.)

I'd eat at the Peppermill and head to the Neon Boneyard and then spend time downtown.

I would have a few cocktails at the Peppermill then head over to the Riviera for some gambling and a "Moscow Mule" cocktail. Jump in a taxi and stop at Frankie's Tiki Room before heading downtown for a couple of hours.

I would definately do a great lunch buffet then try to last till a great graveyard special. The most old school feeling place I have stayed at was the El Cortez. The most old school show I have seen was Big Elvis at Bills. I think he has moved. Roulette and craps would fit because it took a long time for the local casinos to offer these. Champagne.

Dinner at someplace like Casa di Amore.
Play poker with Jackie at ElCo ... or the coin-dropper VP at ElCo.
Wander the Riviera while you can.

In my opinion if your going old school you need to dress up a bit and go see the late show of Jubilee- last of its kind.

This is hypothetical because these places/people are gone but dinner at the Palace Court, seeing Rodney Dangerfield in the Circus Maximus showroom, then craps all night in the Olympic Casino. :(

Dinner at The Golden Steer. It's one of the few remaining mob/celebrity restaurants from the old days. Everyone from Elvis to the Rat Pack hung out there. The mobster Tony 'The Ant' Spilatro had a jewelry store only 400 feet away (where Allure now sits) and had his own booth by the back door.

The outside of the restaurant has seen better days but the inside is classic old Las Vegas. They have not changed a thing. Stepping inside is like going back in time - you see just what Frank Sinatra saw when he walked in (and you can request his booth). You can sit where Marilyn Monroe or John Wayne liked to sit (and others). It's not cheap - but it's worth it.

Go in a dark alley and wave around a lot of cash.
Eventually someone will come kick my ass and take my money.
This will be my Old School Vegas "back roomed" experience. :wink2:

    Breakfast seems to be open:

Eat breakfast at a hotel/casino coffee shop that has keno runners.

Mark your ticket with a black crayon, place your bet with the keno runner, and then follow the numbers on the keno display board while you eat.

Hopefully tip your runner when she delivers your winnings.
