    My Trip Report

Hot, hot, HOT. That pretty much sums it up. Ha. We were pleased to be able to be part of a record high while we were there (116 for the day -- the news stated that 117 is the all-time high).

We arrived at the airport, and after a quick phone call, we located our limo driver (booked through concierge). We were disappointed since we booked a 6-passenger limo and thought we'd have an hour to take a ride up and down the Strip. However, we got a Suburban and went directly to the hotel. We basically overpaid for a cab ride. :(

We checked in at about 2:30, and the line was crazy long. I asked our check-in person if she could put us in a P room at the end of the hall, and she did it gladly without the $20 trick. The room wasn't ready, so we checked our bags and went out to play some machines. Oh, I did give her a $20 at the end of the transaction, and she was really surprised and grateful.

A couple hours later, our room was ready, so up we went. We were in 1948P with a view of Ellis Island. We didn't care that we didn't have a view as long as we had the P room. Every other time, though, we've lucked out and gotten a red P room, but this time, we got a blue one. The only big difference is the TV; it's a small tube TV rather than the nice, big flat screen. Otherwise, the room was very clean and just fine for us. We love being at the end of the hall in the corner since it really cuts down on hallway noise.

We were sort of bums this time. We just didn't do a whole lot but had a whole lot of fun just hanging out and laughing. We tooled up and down a pretty short area (pretty much P Ho to Harrah's and then across to Caesar's). We did a lot more gambling than usual since it was so darn toasty outside. It's probably easiest to just list a few things rather than go day-by-day, so here goes.

    1. Breakfast is always a highlight for us. We ate at Mon Ami Gabi twice (I highly recommend the skinny pancakes!) and Planet Dailies once (those banana split pancakes will stay on my hips for awhile, but totally worth it!).

    2. Walked to Hard Rock on Wed morning so I could get a few $5 chips for my collection. Gal in the cage was grouchy and not happy to help, so I wound up with only three half-way decent ones. I usually get at least five near-mint chips. Hope I have better luck in December.

    3. Made requisite trip to 777 Brewery in Main Street Station. Husband loves the sampler tray and the sushi. I am not a beer drinker but really liked the mango beer (the current specialty brew). We are always amazed at how quiet that casino is (nice change). Thumbs up as always to this place.

    4. Had pretty good luck at the machines. We took $1000 each and literally came back only a couple dollars short of that. To me, that is a win! Neither of us had a win larger than $300 at one time, but we had lots of wins ranging from $50-150, always on 50 cent to $1 bets. We did the best at Caesar's and Margaritavilla (not too bad a Harrah's, either). Lost the most at Flamingo (worst!) and Bill's.

    5. Embarrassed to say we saw Peep Show. After several trips of dragging hubby to "my" shows, I thought I'd better defer and book one he might enjoy a little more. Had seats in the first row behind the tables. Thank goodness there were two outstanding singers because the show was terrible other than that. Even my husband was bored, which is saying a lot since there were boobs involved -- LOL. Poor Holly can't sing, dance, or act. It's clear why she was hired to headline. Her friend Josh Strickland is quite the entertainer, though, so for me, he made the show. Glad I only paid $46/ticket for that one.

    6. Drinks were strongest/best at Caesar's. However, the mojitos at the Paris pool were excellent as usual.

    7. This was the busiest July on the Strip that I can remember in a long time, probably ever. There were SO. MANY. KIDS. We've loved Paris for a long time, and a big reason was that there didn't seem to be as many children there. However, this time, there were screaming kids in the pool and on the casino floor. They were everywhere at all hours. Seriously, parents, if it's after 11:00 and you are still dragging around your screaming kids through the casino, go to bed! I felt sorry for most of the kids we saw; the eight and under crowd was NOT having fun. I was surprised so many of them were actually allowed around the machines. It was annoying as hell. The only place we saw floor personnel actually telling parents to remove their children was at Caesar's. That was nice.

    8. The vibe at Paris was different this time. With the addition of the dancers at the BJ tables (in the one area) and the pounding loud casino music, it felt like a different place. The dancers are no biggie, really, but when you can't even talk to the person right next to you without literally screaming because of the music, it's not fun. It's really too bad. I guess I'm officially old. At times, there were two different music tracks going at once.

    9. We loved the new Margaritaville casino. It's bright and airy and friendly. Glad we can use our TR card there. We had good luck there, too. Much better use of space now....

    10. I now officially like the porn slappers better than the multitude of time share hawkers.

    11. Almost lost our lives in a wild cab ride downtown. I swear the driver was Mr. Chow from The Hangover -- he sounded exactly like him, especially when he laughed. He was so busy talking about himself that we almost wrecked twice. Cars were honking at us and flipping us off. He told us everything about himself except what he was smoking. It was crazy!

Sorry the report was kind of boring, but we really took it nice and easy this visit.

We had a great time and are looking forward to our December trip. We've not been out there at that time of year, and we're planning to do some things we wouldn't ever do during of the summer -- hike Red Rock, head to the Dam, helicopter over to the Grand Canyon. I won't ever get tired of Las Vegas. Ever.

Thanks for sharing your trip report, it was not boring! I am not psyched to hear about all the kids, that always annoys the crap out of me. I feel bad for them, having shitty parents who will drag them around the casino way past bedtime.

Hoping to try 777 on this trip, we've never been despite 12+ visits to Vegas, and I've always heard great things about it.

Noticed it on my last stay there. Could take it or leave it. Would rather leave it but it won't stop me from staying there again. I think all the CET hotels now have the table top dancers? Goes to the young crowd which is what all the hotels are after now. Baby Boomers are just about off the radar now in a few more years.

I am surprised about kids near machines. Last trip someone sat down with their kid next to them & it was under a minute before security was there making them leave.

Loved your report Leeza, especially because we were supposed to be there the same time as you. Actually I would still be there for our flight was scheduled to leave tomorrow (Saturday) morning. We also were to stay at Paris as well. Hey, way to go landing that P room! Sorry you had to waste your hard earned money for "Peepshow". Glad you had a good time.

I can associate much more closely with this type of Trip Report than the ones where folks are getting comped suites and spending more money gambling than they'll ever admit.

I'm kind of curious about where you ate other than breakfast. Do you do buffets? Have you got any favorite, reasonably priced restaurants?

Sam, I hope things are going better for you guys now! I hope you'll get to plan another trip soon!

John, we love the 777 Brewery in Main Street Station, and we also almost always eat at la Burger Brasserie (between Paris and Bally's but much closer to Bally's). Both are reasonably priced. We usually eat a big breakfast, no lunch and then supper.

We ate at Margaritaville the first night, and we both were queasy afterwards, me for about a day and my husband for two. I don't think we'll go back there.

We've also liked the cafe in the Flamingo -- I think it's called Calypso or something close to that -- for a quick, good, reasonable meal.

The Earl of Sandwich is also great for a quick, cheap meal (Miracle Mile Shops in the back). Yum!

We don't really do buffets only because we have our favorite breakfast haunts and that is our big meal usually.

We meant to eat at Toby Keith's this time (Harrah's) because we've had several people tell us it's good and fun, but we just didn't make it over there. We'll try again in December. :)

Shok, that's exactly what my husband and I said! The Baby Boomers just aren't going to be a target market anymore. In fact, I'm wondering if we are at all anymore! We're on the tip of the baby boomer tail, and I feel as if we don't really matter much.

Jgates, I was surprised, too. Kids were all over the place - walking in between machines, standing at machines while parents gambled, and running around. At the pool, they were screaming and yelling as if they were at their hometown pool. I love kids, but there are times when I really don't want to hang with them. Vegas is one of those times. It was almost like there were too many kids to even bother trying to get them out of the gaming areas, so they were just allowed "wherever."

ButterflyMtn, I actually took a slapper card (for once) and then handed it back to the next slapper. You should have seen the look on her face. I may or may not have had a few drinks right before this.

Sounds like a winning trip to me! I loved your TR, it sounds similar to the plans I am making for our upcoming Dec trip - maybe with some Grand Canyon time thrown in there not sure yet.

Breakfast is my favorite too - thanks for all the tips on where those nummies are!

I did not see the table dancers last year - is that new? Sounds strange for Paris - unless they were can-can girls lolz.

December will be our first trip staying at a CET property, Paris seemed like the best choice, I get lost in Caesars. Is the "P" room appealing to you because of the size or the quiet?

Thanks for the report.Paris is my home hotel.
Sounds like you did ok on the gambling.Congrats.

I would not be happy with kids hanging out around
    machines.

Also not happy to hear the vibe has changed.I love music,
but don't like it blaring while playing.

Sounds like you had a great time, and thats all thats important.

Thanks, guys. Sammowhammo, the table dancers are pretty new, I believe. There's just one area of BJ tables with a long walkway in the middle. No can-can girls -- think MUCH less clothing! ;)

Vegasgal, you are so right -- we had a great time, and the little things don't really matter! I'll only remember the good parts.

Sammo, I forgot to answer your question. I'm sorry.

We like the P rooms for the quiet. They really don't feel much bigger; I think the hallway leading to the room makes it feel maybe a little bigger, but in reality, I'm not sure we gain much useable space.

Very nice trip report. We are leaving on the 22nd for a five day stay at Paris. Our first in that Hotel. I am sure we will like it. I do not care for the children in Las Vegas either. Sorry to hear the casino music seemed so loud. We are baby boomer also!! It is just nice to get away and there certainly is plenty of things to enjoy in Las Vegas. The trip reports are always very informative for us. I hope we can be lucky enough to obtain a "P" room, I will give it a try.

We also try to get a P room when we stay at Paris. They are definitely quieter. And I think they all have a corner view. Once we were in a Red Room P that had a view south to Cosmo and Aria from one window and a view across to the Bellagio fountains along the side. Very nice.

Thanks! Quiet sounds good, I'll have to remember to ask for one of those rooms.

Agreed! There seemed to be a bunch more people (and kids) than in the past.

Couldn't agree more! That place was awesome.

Wowza - sounds like quite the experience :)
