My wife and I will be making our first trip to Vegas for a week in mid-December to celebrate my 40th birthday. After looking at tons of videos and doing a lot of online research we have narrowed our choices down to the Cosmo Terrace Suite or the Bellagio Suite with a fountain view. My question for people who have been in the mid-December time frame is does it get too cold to really enjoy the terrace, especially at night? The terrace is the only thing that has me considering Cosmo over Bellagio and I'd really hate to get there and not want to go out on the terrace because of the cold.

I have stayed in both suites. I like Cosmo but for a first trip in December, the Fountain View Bellagio Suite is a no-brainer. You can enjoy the fountain show from the comfort (warmth!) of your suite, with the music on the TV.

While there are always seasonal blips, it is likely to be very chilly on a high floor balcony in mid-December, especially at night.

It really depends where you're from. If you're from California the answer is probably yes. If you're from Nantucket then the answer is probably no.

We live in Houston. We wear heavy coats when it hits 50.

Thanks for the input. I'm thinking Bellagio suite if it gets cold on those terraces at night in December.

On a terrace at night in mid-December you'd probably want long sleeves and perhaps a light jacket as well. During the day would probably be fine.

Why is the terrace the only reason u considering staying at the Cosmo? I stayed at the Cosmo a few weeks back and i loved the terrace suite. The rooms are much better then the Bellagio suite and if u still prefer the B casino its a really quick walk. Another advantage is that u can use their washer/dryer and they have a big fridge, half mini bar and other half for your use.

I've never been before so I only have what I've read to go by. Thus my perceptions may be completely off. However, from what I've read it seems B is more of a luxury atmosphere where as Cosmo is more of a party atmosphere. My wife really wants good service (Concierge, turn down service, etc) and I've heard Cosmo can be hit or miss. Also I've seen some complaints about house cleaning at Cosmo and haven't seen any about it at B. Finally I'm bringing a gambling bankroll of 3-4k. I'm going to me dropping around 1k per night and I've read that would be enough with MLife to likely get some of my room charges comp'd but with Identity the comps are harder to get and only apply at the casino at the Cosmo.

I agree the rooms at Cosmo look nicer and I like the potential to be higher up. Personally I like the party vibe more.

I've resisted the urge to be "that guy" starting a thread asking about which hotel to go to but I welcome anyone to correct any misconceptions I have. This is likely to be the first of many trips to Vegas for us. I plan to go 1 or 2 times per year moving forward. My impressions are just my interpretation of a lot of reading reviews and these boards over the last month and trying to determine what my wife would like more. It's my birthday but every married man knows every vacation is ultimately his wife's so what she wants still is number 1. :peace:

I didnt have a problem at all with service or housekeeping when i stayed there for 8 nights but just like u i read similar reviews beforehand so its probably true with that hit or miss. Im just not a big fan of the B anymore except for some of there restaurants which are great. Aria could also be an option for u to look into, really nice rooms but not as nice view as u would get from the B or C.

Wynn/core is the best option if u want the best combined room and luxary but the location is not ideal for a first timer.

I go for Christmas every year. It's always different, but more often than not it's freezing (well in the 30's-40's), and many years torrential rain, and sometimes even snow. So not sure you would get much use out of it. Last year was pretty mild though... I don't even remember it being cold. But in the past we've been stuck in floods and rain and crap. So I wouldn't plan on good weather.

Average daytime high mid-December is only 59, sun sets at 4:30, and it's still the desert so it cools off quickly. Being from Houston, I suspect I know the answer to your question about using the Terrace...but I'll let you use the data to decide.

Since it's the Cosmo, I wonder if the Concierge could arrange ($$$) for a propane tiki torch for your terrace? Propane+high rise=:nono:...but this is Vegas.

I stayed at the Cosmo in April, it was 80 out, but with the wind it still seemed freezing on the terrace. I would say it would be unusable in Dec.

I like the idea of the terrace, but the Vegas weather is just gross... all the time. Just the air is nasty. Or it's 110 degrees or it's freezing or it's windy.. I don't know that I'd even wanna sit out there.
