My brothers friends stayed there last year and we went to their room a few times. No offense to anyone in here, I was disappointed in the place. Their room seemed like a mile from that inclinator thing, they had a small tube TV in some old junky small armoire with "Egyptian scenes" on it. As neat as the place is outside, you would think they wouldn't make it look like a Super 8, but only worse, inside.

Thanks for posting that! Man, I miss that old Vegas vibe.

And I do agree... they really need to modernize the rooms at Luxor big time. There should not be tube TV's in any hotel room anywhere any more.

i think there can be a revival of Luxor. It just unappealing to go in there. Maybe its because I've been going there since it opened. There's nothing to go back and see these days.

    Luxor historical photos

Today, Luxor posted a very nice selection of photos from the early days of Luxor with the full Egyptian theme. Wow, I miss those days. LOL, I miss the 1990s as well!

Those pics are great! I have a bunch of old Luxor pictures, actual pictures, taken with a 35mm camera. We stayed there on our first trip to Vegas in '99... so much has changed in 13 years.

I dunno what it is like now but it was so cool then. We went with our kids & another family, the kids loved the Egyptian theme.

Man looking back at those old pics it really makes you wonder WTF the geniuses at MGM were thinking when they dethemed 80% of the place, things like the Laser show, RA, the IMAX ride and the Nile boat were great. Seems the majority of posters on FB agree with that also. Marketing people can be such idiots.

If they could create that same look and theme, they would be back in business again. I was there the year they opened and it was quite a show place. This is one case where the old was definitely better than the new.

I got a kick out of those earlier! It's nicer now, but it's kinda half assed job. If they would redo all the rooms, then it could be great. I think they did a nice job on the casino remodel. But it's more like they just took down Egyptian crap everywhere else.

I wouldn't say bring back the theme, but if they are gonna undo it, they gotta undo ALL of it.

Oh man, if all the properties that de-themed collectively brought their themes I would be a happy camper!

Wow. I love these old pictures! Hubbie and I rode on the Nile ride right after it opened. For my birthday he wrapped up a small airplane and a small pyramid and made me guess where we were going. Hmmmm, lol. This was our second trip to Vegas.

Does anyone remember the animatronic camels?

:haha: I sort of remember those camels. I know that at one point, the camels, a mostly empty 3' tall rum drink and I had quite the conversation one night. :kill:

I miss all the themes!!!! I know they were cheesy, but that's what made us fall in love with Vegas....not the sterile nightclub designs for bratty 20 somethings from California....

The themes really are what made many fall in love with Vegas as an adult vacation spot to escape the normal world. Look at the past of the city and ever since the Flamingo there has been a theme to every place be it Mid East like the Alladin and Sahara or river boat gamblers like the Showboat. Whether people want to admit or like it themes have been a big part of Vegas for 50 years. RA is a great example of even the clubs, don't get me wrong I love LAX but RA was just so much cooler and dare I say classier than LAX has ever been. Detheming so many places has taken much of that charm and attraction away.
