I was in the area and stopped in for a little bit on Sunday. I couldn't believe how small and uninviting the place was. Are the rest of the casinos in the Chicagoland area the same? Any board members from this area that care to share where to go, favorite places, best food etc... I'm mainly a table games player(baccarat and craps) but like to be able to comfortably walk around and play the slots occasionally. Any suggestions? Please don't tell me you guys have to come to Potowatomi.:evillaugh

I live about 20 minutes from Harrah's Joliet but I go to Four Winds in Michigan.

I like the Horseshoe Hammond. It is very nice looking, plenty of slots and VP, lots of table games. Very good buffet with big windows overlooking Lake Michigan and downtown Chicago, and even Jack Binions Steakhouse is very good.

I've never seen craps games less than $10, and I don't play Baccarat. Blackjack is usually $15 minimums, though I did see a $10 game this past Sunday.

High Limit Room has Pai Gow Poker at $20, which I thought wasn't very high at all based on the low variance of that game. Didn't check other tables in the High Limit Room.

I went to the Rivers casino near O'Hare once, and it has been well documented that their license is only for 1200 seats, but it looks smaller than that. It was absolutely jam packed, and I didn't feel the need to stand in line to play a slot machine that people would leave just because they lost their bankroll. Nice looking place, but just too small.

I was also at the Grand Victoria in Elgin once, that was a place that was also small (if I remember correctly, Grand Victoria is a riverboat). The only thing that stuck with me was that the craps crew was a lot of fun.

I am heading to Harrah's Joliet for my first time this weekend.

I am a regular a Harrah's Joliet. Yeah, it's small but that's because of the cap on gaming positions. There's not much they can do. It's mostly quiet during the week but they draw a decent crowd on the weekend with live bands. We end up there a lot because of the hotel as we are comfortable there and the staff is top notch.

Now over the border, Ameristar is the casino I am most likely to hit but I am taking a breather from it because I have a crappy losing streak. I like their restaurants and the hotel is pretty nice as well. I should like Horseshoe but I just can't connect to the place. I think it's that I don't care for the crowd. Further into Indiana is Blue Chip. I like it there because they have an awesome spa. They are also really generous with comps and we like all the restaurants there. I can't recall if they have baccarat, though.

Rivers (by O'Hare) is probably my favorite on the IL side. They have a lot of baccarat and craps available, but you're generally going to be looking at $25 mins on baccarat (although it is midi - at least in high limit). The crowds have tamed considerably over the last 6-8 months to a more reasonable level, in my opinion, and everything is new and more inviting than Harrah's Joliet.

If you want a Harrah's property, I wouldn't think twice about crossing the border to Hammond to hit the Horseshoe.

Illinois Gaming is a joke. I live 20 minutes from 3 different Illinois "casinos", and still prefer to travel the hour to Hammond or hour and 45 to New Buffalo.
