Taking a page from Heart Attack Grill, the Monte Carlo's buffet is now named Big Belly Buffet.

Not quite as dignified as you might expect from a middle-tier MGM property. Then again, Dick's Last Stand is only two doors down. Somehow this makes me less likely to eat there.

The original rough around the edges names like Sammie's Chop House, instead of Samuel's, has gone to the extreme.

Bad name for what has become a bad buffet. Hopefully they come out with a better product along with the rebranding.

The name Big Belly Buffett doesn't sound the least bit appetizing to me and probably wouldn't eat there just becuase of the name!

I guess they're trying to limit the damages in any possible false advertising suits. The name "Big Belly Buffet" leaves no room for great expectations as opposed to "The Monte Carlo Buffet" which sounds just short of regal.

The name will probably deter people from eating there. I wonder if that is the subliminal intent, since buffets hardly make any money for the Hotel/Casino.

By the way, if you have a small belly, will they let you eat there? Only people with bellys of say, 42 inches and larger? Is there going to be a (ahem) large person admitting only those who quallify? Is there like maybe a ten plate minimum or risk a penalty for not eating enough?

Just kidding... But I think the name is ridiculous!

I can say that I hate the name... it sounds like what somebody would name a cheap small town or chain buffet back in the 70s or 80s.

As for the name change itself, the only thing I think I can really say is that it probably won't hurt them any - the Monte Carlo buffet is kind of small, the food selection is lackluster and the place is never busy.

So if the name change to something stupid cuts business by 10-20% thats really only a small handful of people each day.

I can think of worse names for eateries, like "Ground Cow" (local to Omaha, long gone) and of course, Fatburger, but Heart Attack Grill and Big Belly are right up there in the running!

If you mean Dick's Last Resort, that is intentionally rude and tacky. I've been to the one in Chicago, but not in Las Vegas. Dick's and Ed Debevic's, also in Chicago, are famous for all-in-fun rudeness.

There's also a hot dog place in Chicago, forget the name, where they take the rudeness a step further, with f-bombs being quite common.

LOL, I wonder if a buffet with intentionally rude service would work. :)

"since buffets hardly make any money for the Hotel/Casino"

My understanding is that the casinos don't intend to make money from food and entertainment, their goal is to break even. They are there to draw people in, who will then gamble. Seems to me, if the name truly is a deterrent, then that will be a bad thing.

Might have been true 10-15 years ago, but not the case today. "Hotel" side amenities (food, clubs, spa, etc) bring in as much or more of revenue for casinos these days.....So it's been reported here in the past.....I'll see if I can find any articles with a break down of $.

True for the fancy restaurants and nightclubs. The buffets not so much, I would think.

Monte Carlo is kind of gasping for air all over the place. The quiet, dignified class that was the original goal doesn't work as well when you're in a chain of 9 casinos, and most of them are classier than you are.

So slowly they are just changing it to anything that can bring in bodies.

Big Belly Bodies. That would be a good name for the casino, they should just rename the whole property to that. BigBellyBodyLand.

Actually I've heard they are renaming the casino "Please don't forget that we're here"

True. But the original comment was more general than just the buffet, as was my response.

If they are going for realistic names, they should re-name the 'Spice Market' buffet, the 'lets see how many crabs legs I can fit one on one plate and then not bother to eat' buffet.

I had seen this post for a couple of days and never clicked on it, just cause I didn't care. Finally, I just wanted to see where the place was. Oh great, our hotel. Now why would any one with any class, that actually wanted you to eat there, name it this? I thought it sounded like it was at one of the little casinos in Primm or somewhere.
