We've done Rio, TI, Stardust, the JW Marriott several times.

It's Vegas with training wheels. Not sure we'd do it again.

For a 1 second holiday it isn't worth it - expensive flights, expensive rooms, rookie crowds and like Ken said.....vomit! (I just thought that was funny)

We've done Fremont St a couple of times but it isn't worth the hassle. No different then being out at home on NYE, just too many amateurs who can't hold their liquor.

I live in NYC which is arguably the New Year's Eve capital of the world - I would never venture anywhere near Times Square on New Year's Eve so I can't imagine wanting to visit a place I love so much like Vegas on that holiday and having to deal with the same out of control crowds that I could get for free at home.

If I happened to be in Vegas on New Year's Eve I would definitely be in a suite waiting for the morning when I could step over the sea of bodies passed out on the strip and finally enjoy the city properly!

    Well stated.

By far our best NYE experiences came at the JW, which of course ain't the Strip or downtown. We'd much rather be home, hosting our usual get together with friends -- cooking, laughing, drinking.

If I were to do NYE in Vegas, it would be a Terrace Corner Suite at the Cosmo and hang out there.

Other than that, I have no desire to be in Vegas for NYE. I dont want to be in the cold outside. They close off all the doors to the casinos at a certain time so you're stuck outside. I guess I would do the clubs if I was there, but there are other great weekends to do the nightlife that would just be as good.

I was there for the millenium celebration. It was cool to see and the weather was actually great, but I'll never do it again. Part of the fun is being out in the crowd in front of the Bellagio fountains enjoying the celebration, but that leaves you with a logistical problem. Where do you go for a bathroom? Most places won't even let you walk through the door unless you're a guest which limits your options of where to hang out. Vegas is so crowed on NYE, it takes all of the fun out of it. I'd rather spend the night on a beach somewhere.

    New Years Eve

I heard many years ago that VEGAS rooms have to be booked one year in advance. The Old Gold Spike hotel would invite my parents to stay with them for $25.00 per night BUT.....my parents would choose to go to Vegas a few days after New Years. That was their habit for many years.

Vegas is the New Year Capital of the USA for us WEST COAST people and other people who love to watch the fire-works in Vegas.

I don't like crowds because it can become dangerous all of a sudden.
I prefer to watch the New Years festivities from my home t.v.

A cute story: My dad lived to be 96yrs. old and then he went to Elvis's Heaven in Vegas.lol. His Spirit lives at the Gold Spike.
When he got really old he was ill with medical problems and he told me one day that it was his time to go. But.... every year I would tell him that he was going to Vegas in January. He would look foreward to that.
Then I would tell him that he was going to Vegas for his birthday in April.
He would look foreward to that too every year. That is how I would give him
hope to keep him alive. He loved to gamble in Vegas. He loved the slots machines. His favorite machine was Jennie in a Bottle. I told him one day that Jennie was a cheap-skate because she didn't give me any money.
He said to me "Don't talk bad about my Jennie".lol.

Then when he got to be 95yrs.old he was really too sick to go to Vegas and he told me he wanted to die. I told him to wait to die until after the Holidays
so we wouldn't all be sad during the Christmas/New Year holidays.

My dad waited for 6 more months before he died peacefully in his bed with Hospice care at his side. He died after his April birthday. LucyR.

From the stories I've heard on here I would NEVER go to Vegas for NYE.

New Year's in Las Vegas has a vibe all its own. If it weren't attractive to people, it wouldn't be the success it is. If you are into fireworks - they are incredible (Stratosphere is my favorite).

I get the best of both worlds - staying home on NYE and watching The Strip from my balconies with friends and family. Then, I go out the next day and hang out at the places too busy to get into just the night before. It's a great way to wrap up the holidays.

Darn it! Well....here's to my first experience. *chuckle*

Bought ticket a week ago already. Could always change it but will do some more research. Might change it to a trip in may *shrug*

Booked some rooms. Things are astronomical.

Maybe I should stay at Sam's town or Gold Coast...although I will probably get a decent strip casino rate as the day comes closer. I did last year anyway.

How did I miss all the aversion to NYE? Anyone have a link to a sample NYE report that describes this? lol

I hope you have a good time!

We did Vegas once over NYE, stayed a week at the Bellagio. I am glad we did it but - I would never do it again. as has been said - too many amateurs.

My very favorite weekend to go to Vegas is the middle of January - the weekend after AES and just before SHOT and the Builders convention. Some folks from AES are still around and all the early arrivals for the 2 other huge conventions are there. It's a super fun crowd at the tables.

This was a post I made a couple of years ago about New Years Eve in Las Vegas: http://vegasmessageboard.com/forums/showpost.php?p=563952&postcount=5

I also added some comments to your post about women getting in to clubs on NYE for free in another thread: http://vegasmessageboard.com/forums/showpost.php?p=657260&postcount=3

Thing is, to some New Years Eve in Las Vegas is a HUUUUUUUGE negative... but to others the things that some people hate (like how crowded it is) is what others love about it.

Here are a couple of NYE photos I took of the crowd as we were working our way from Carnival Court to Imperial Palace around 10PM-ish:
