    My Trip Report

After reading the very funny and entertaining trip reports on this board, such as the ones by Squidward & Royal Flusher recently, to mention just a few, writing these is getting more intimidating. I can’t compete with those guys, so here goes…
We flew SWA non-stop from Milwaukee and departure was at 2:45 PM. I did the check-in 24 hrs ahead of time and got A30 & 31, so I felt like a winner already. Got to the airport, flight was delayed 10 minutes, then 20 and then all of a sudden it’s back on time. Time for boarding and they announce we can spread out, it’s not a full flight. My wife and I had 3 seats to ourselves. That is the absolute first time flying from Milwaukee to Vegas, the plane wasn’t full and we have flown there almost 200 times. My intent was to try for exit row seating, but row 4 was open, so we grabbed that rather than take a chance on the exit row.

Uneventful flight and our luggage was off rather quickly. Casino limo picked us up and we were at Main Street Station 40 minutes after touchdown.

We ended up in the same suite we had in April, room 1618. It’s called a suite but it’s nothing fancy like the Strip hotels. It’s a double room, with a couch, 4 chairs, 2 CRT TVs, coffee maker and fridge.

Unpacked, retrieved my $100 in slot credits and we were settled into VP machines 1 & 2 at the Boar’s Bar by 6 PM. Me dollars and my wife quarters. We only had 2 hours before we were meeting a cocktail waitress friend of ours for dinner at the 777 Brew Pub.

20 minutes later I hold a pair of aces and I’m dealt another pair with a deuce for a $2,000 payout. Now this is the way to start a trip, unfortunately my luck didn’t last and it was downhill for the next two hours.
Time to meet our CW friend for dinner at 777. This poor woman who is in her late 30s has had such a rough stretch. In the course of 7 days, she lost 3 of her closest friends, all around her age. One mixed prescription drugs with alcohol, another died of a heart attack and the third died of cancer. All in 7 days! Now she tells us on the 10th day, she was in a car accident, not her fault, but she has to go in for surgery. Naturally we ask why…She has breast implants and the impact of the crash caused the right one to shift sideways. At this point I laughed out loud in front of her. Sorry, couldn’t help it!
Dinner consisted of the 12 oz Ribeye dinner $13.95, Mahi Mahi $10.95 and Blackened Salmon $10.95
    Veggies and starch included.

After dinner it was back to the bar for more losing. I never got another 4oak that night. Got to the room about 2 AM, which made it about a 22 hour day for us.

Sunday our plan was to head over to Chicago Brewing Company, inside Four Queens for pizza lunch and visit with a bartender friend of ours. Turns out she didn’t work until 6 PM that night. We had a medium pizza- sausage, mushroom & onion for $13. We sat at a table and mentioned to the bartender we were going to play VP at the bar after lunch and she comped the drinks we had with the meal. That was nice of her. Lost about $400 at VP and headed back to MSS for more VP.

I continued to lose, my 2k jackpot was now about half that. I tried the crap table at MSS and bought in for $300. Lost that in about 45 minutes. Back to VP and I switched to JOB but honestly, that game gets so boring with 4oak only paying 125. Not that it mattered, I didn’t get any. I remembered either Flusher or Squidward saying the Main St Bar inside the Cal paid 9/6 at the dollar level, so I ventured over there. Took my wine glass with me because all drinks are served in plastic at the Cal unless you eat in a restaurant. Played for a couple of hours and broke about even, which is a win! No 4oak, but a ton of full houses.

We ate something at 777 around 8 PM that night, but crap if I can remember what? Got fed up with losing and hit the room by around midnight.

Monday: We did the breakfast buffet at MSS. I know some love it others think it’s overrated, but honestly I’ve never had a bad breakfast buffet here in over a dozen years. $6.99 for breakfast.

After that we caught the 8:30 AM free shuttle at the Cal, to Sam’s Town. We just thought we would try something different and we still earn B Connected points. Walked up to the first bar we found and I put in a hundy for DDB. Very first hand, I was dealt a straight flush! $250. We played for a couple of hours and then caught the shuttle back downtown. I was ahead about $150. Finally a profit! We went back to the Cal and discovered that the San Francisco bar also has 9/6 DDB at the dollar level also. 9/5 on quarters. We played there until 3 PM when there is a bartender shift change at MSS and headed back there. Several long stories, but we are avoiding MSS during the day on weekdays.

Dinner Monday night was at Pasta Pirate, inside the Cal. Stupid name IMO, but the food is pretty good. We started we escargot appetizer ($8) and I had the King crab legs, 1.5# for $40 and my wife had the shrimp scampi. $18. She thought the scampi was too sweet. Crab legs were split and not too salty. A very good meal and it’s fun to watch the chefs preparing everything behind the glass enclosure in the center of the restaurant.

Uneventful rest of the day. 5, 4oak total and hit the room by midnight again.

Tuesday, the flight was at 12:15 and the limo was scheduled to pick us up at 10:00 AM. We headed over to the Fremont for the Paradise Café which is inside the Paradise Buffet, but you order off the menu and have a server. My wife ordered the Deuces, which is 2 eggs, 2 sausage, 2 bacon strips and 2 pancakes. $5.99.
I had bacon & eggs. 2 eggs, hash browns, 5 strips of bacon and toast. $6.99. Both very good.

Limo arrived a little before 10 and it was off to the airport for a nice slow Tuesday travel day. WRONG!

Airport was jammed packed. The lines for SWA were overflowing the zigzag markers. I paid the $10 ea for the early boarding and we ended up with A 41 & 42. The lines at security in the C terminal was just nuts. Friday through Sunday they had something called the Electric Daisy Carnival at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and according to the local media, 300,000+ attended. Seems like most decided to fly home on Tuesday. Maybe some from the big fight on Saturday also?

We finally make it through security and have time for one drink before they are lining up the As to board. The flight is non-stop to Milwaukee with continuing service to Baltimore. We’re lined up and there are 14 wheelchairs also lined up to get on the same flight. That’s fine, but I’ve never seen that many for one flight. Flight gets going about 15 mins late and once in the air, I’ve never seen so many ignorant, people. They make the announcement that there is no standing in line for the front bathroom, wait in your seat until the restroom is vacant. We got row 4 again and I’m watching these idiots. They keep coming forward and the flight attendant has to send them back. Meanwhile, she is trying to get through with her drink tray and these people aren’t moving for her. I’m not saying it was the wheelchair people, just saying I’ve never seen so many inconsiderate people on one flight.

Back home on time. My $2,000 win went bye bye and I ended up even for the trip including tips and gambling. My wife ended up losing about $300, playing quarter VP. I included prices for the meals but the only one we paid for was pizza at the Four Queens. The others at the Boyd properties were comped.

I wouldn’t have been able to hold back the laughter on the breast implant surgery thing either…poor girl. I would just be thankful I hadn’t just taken a big swig of beer or someone would have been wearing it.

The trips that start with big wins right away that just get eroded down to nothing are so frustrating. But hey, it’s hard to complain about breaking even – or even losing $300 – right?

I love the allusions to an unnamed issue with the MSS bar staff…so mysterious. I’m sure it is just a mundane service problem or misunderstanding of some sort. But my life is pretty boring these days, so I’m going to go ahead and imagine it is something far more sinister. “I like to think you killed a man. It’s just the romantic in me.” :rolleyes2:

Anyway, good stuff. Congrats on the aces with kicker.

Great report Joe - as you know I just got back as you went out to MSS.

Also, as you know I had only one 4OAK the whole trip! Yeah....so awesome. :vomit:

At least you hit a royal and a bunch of 4OAK's. Playing down your winnings does suck but it always beats playing down your original bankroll.

No complaints. It was a totally unexpected trip. Our Seattle airfare dropped $92 each, but the credit expired the end of August. We didn't want to go to LV in July or August, so we booked this, rather then let the credits expire.

Besides my wife's losses, total cost of the trip around $600, including $125 to board the dog and airport parking at $50, plus a few cheap airport drinks both ways.
And the airfare, minus the credits came to $200 each.

Thanks for the report. MSS is my home hotel. It used to be the Fremont until they removed many of their better VP machines. We are just 25 cents VP players, but we still enjoy our visit. I also like to shoot craps at MSS.

Thanks for the pictures of the mini suite. I had never been in one. I stayed in the mini suite at the Fremont one time and it looks similar.

Nice trip report! Sounds like a good time. When I make it home "even" I consider that a winning trip. I stayed at MSS in April and they put me in a room just like the one you was in. I can't remember which floor it was, but it wasn't that room. The coffee tables and TV were different.

Well your trip reports would be more exciting if you had moved to Flusherville instead of back to Wisconsin! ! I think they have drugs in the water there lol!!!

Serious ly a great report. I'd have lost it at the implant shift also. I nearly lost the coworkers next to me with an alcoh/prescription combo. Her old migraine med could be taken with alcohol. Pharmacist didn't mention the new ine couldn't. Very bad results!

Forgot to include this. When we went to Sam's Town, the show they had was Mitzi Gaynor, one person show.

Goggled her when we got home because I remember her being a singer/dancer back in 60s & 70s. She is 80 years old.

Either a case of bad investments or ego is my guess.

When I hear stories about breast implants going 'out of whack' I really wish I still had that phony chiropractor license I used to carry around.

Thanks Joe for the report! Nice hit early, never a bad thing to have a break even trip, with comps... live to fight another day!

Is the bartop VP at Chicago Brewing Company any good? Do they have the DDB progressives like at the other bars?

Bartops are 9/6 DDB, but not progressive.

JOB is 8/5 but with progressive suited Royals. I hit spades for $6,480 back in 2008.

Bonus is 7/5 and I don't think they have DB.

Except for the addictive 100 play machines on the floor, the majority of my play is upstairs in Chicago Brewing Co, so I can't say what the bartops at the casino bars pay.

    Thanks for the report Joe!

I love the pictures of the Sweet Suite. As you know I had once aspired to obtain the status of a Bconnected Sapphire card holder. Now that I have accomplished this goal on my last trip, my next obsession will be to spend a night in an amazing MSS Sweet Suite. I have never been able to play or [STRIKE]bribe[/STRIKE] tip my way into one of these rooms.

I have noticed that my last round of room offers were for any Boyd property in Vegas and did now include weekends too. So like George Jefferson "I'm moving on up!" And this is hard to do going only twice a year? I'm not a wealthy Canadian like the Flusher. :Þ

Ohh, and I was truly impressed of your picture of the bathroom in this Sweet Suite. Not only do you get TWO TP dispencers.... there is a room safe right under it!

Due to excessive drinking and partial memory loss... I have had those mornings when I checked the safe to count my bank-roll and then crapped my pants. To be able to sit on the facilities and count simultaneously would have saved me at least one pair on thong man-panties.

P.S. - If you are still pissed at day shift bartenders, please remember that they have to put up with asses like me and Flusher. A little compassion for them [STRIKE]may be[/STRIKE] is in order?

Forgot to put this in the TR. On our flight to Sin City, the woman across the aisle read her bible the entire trip. We just found that ironic.

So what happens on the return flight-different woman in our row does the same thing.

The safe is actually in the bathroom but on the wall next to the red couch. The door below the TP is for pipe access, but I'm sure you knew that.:evillaugh

Don't know if this is true, but I was told you have to be Emerald to get the suites. I'll find out after our Oct trip, because I'll be losing Emerald status at the end of Oct., after they subtract August & Oct 2011 points. That's going to be about 100k+ in points gone and I'm only at 303,000 right now.
