    Abc stores

Hi Ken, the ABC STORES are well known in HAWAII for the best deals on
Hawaiian products. The stores are located everywhere in all of the Hawaiian
    Islands.
The ABC Stores are also located in Vegas. The Planet Hollywood Shopping Mall has two stores. The stores have Hawaiian and Vegas products.

There is an ABC Store at the Fashion Mall.

There is a ABC Store on Las Vegas Blvd, located across from the Monte Carlo Hotel.

I always go shopping there in Hawaii.....and in Vegas for sodas, snacks, pearl jewelry, Vegas tote bags, ice cream, chips, gum, etc. LOL. LucyR.

ken, as a veteran hawaii traveler, can you address whether there are as many tourists from japan as there used to be, or has their economic problems diminished the amount of travelers from japan to hawaii? if there is reduced tourist traffic to hawaii, are there more deals to be had as far as condo rental, hotel rooms, etc?

as an aside, can recall a charter bus junket to banff in the 80's, about 15 couples of us who had been invited by the reps of an ag chemical company, boat trip on lake, golf at banff hot springs for a few, dinner at lake louise lodge, a pretty nice deal. summer crowds in banff meant lots of other tourists, and some of us small town montanans were admittedly intimidated by the much more aggressive, gotta get where we are going fast, neighbors from japan.

banff, as a small town, meant that we kept going by this really nice brick complex, which i think was mountie headquarters. about the 5th time by, someone asked what those buildings were. from the back of the bus...THAT'S THE JAPANESE EMBASSY!

traveler and shok, so cool you have trips on the books!

Glen, not sure I'm veteran as much as I am hopelessly hooked, and we're rapidly making up for lost time. I'm sure there is a number out there but, yes, the tsunami and the previously roiled Japanese economy have hurt the islands as Japanese tourism is big big big to the bottom line.

We often rent private homes and condos through vrbo.com. You save so much coin that way, and you get elbow room. Having the ability to cook is a perk. At brecky you get a nice alternative to loco moco -- lol -- and with all that blue water and farm-to-table, shopping and cooking is a joy.

Not sure the target for your inquiry, but I'll weigh in:

We're happy with the BI, Maui or Kauai, preferably only one/trip unless we have a couple weeks. Once you do the golf thing, Lanai's pretty much seen and done. Need to do Molokai one of these days, however. Oahu doesn't hold much appeal.

Maui is great especially if your staying in wailea. Have you stayed at the Four Seasons there? Its a great hotel and the service is excellent. The staff is really some of the nicest and most helpful I've ever come across. Also while not an Avid golfer the golf course there is really nice.

We've always stayed at Fairmont Kea Lani down that way (but we adore Four Seasons Hualalai on the BI). Wailea Golf Club is solid. I'm also a BIG fan of Makena North (although saying South now is kinda an exercise in futility).
