Yep - I did hear you can get liquor in Vegas!

Seriously - you can buy liquor at grocery stores and drug stores too.

Thanks for the input here. Wow you can buy booze in drug stores. Here in NY you have to go to a "liquor store".

Not ever cheaper than a drug store or a grocery store, when I've compared prices. Now, if you don't have a rental car and/or aren't planning to go to a drug store or grocery store, they might be more convenient. But I don't think they're cheaper. Nor is the selection great, depending on what you're looking for.

We're staying at the Platinum. It looks like there's a grocery store on the way there from the airport. I suppose we'll have to take a cab from the airport and pay the meter while we shop, oh well. We'll want to have some drinks in our room.

Don't worry about the meter running while you are shopping...

On one hand you are paying 50 cents a minute for the taxi to wait there for you... but on the other hand if you send the cab on its way and then hire a new one when you are done shopping you have to pay the $3.30 drop fee again.

But to me the big issue would be how long you might have to wait for another taxi if you let the first one go.

I've gone off strip before and when I am ready to head back to The Strip there have been times where I've been waiting up to 45 minutes for a taxi to take me back.
(NOTE: by "off strip" I don't mean to the off strip casinos, but to businesses, shopping centers, plazas, etc)

So factoring in the drop fee you effectively get almost 7 minutes to do your shopping before you would officially be in the "it would have been cheaper to send the taxi on its way and call a new one" area, but even if I expected I'd be in there shopping for 15-20 minutes I'd still rather just have the taxi waiting for me when I am done.

Really, fifty cents a minute. That's a pretty cheap cab. I guess we'll have the cab wait.

Know what you want before you walk in and the wait will be minimal. Most grocery stores have a pretty large selection of liquors available.
