Sorry for no photos, but nothing to see really. :(

I drove by (very slowly) on Monday, June 4, and the frontage was very much stripped of the beloved Lady Luck motif as users have commented before. Despite seeing several construction trucks, I did not see ANY actual workers on the property :( The time was about 10am.

I really hope they make progress towards the Downtown Grand because downtown Vegas is looking really great with all the upgrades to the Plaza, Golden Gate, Cortez, and so on.

I felt very safe downtown, even walking down to El Cortez and Main Street Station. I'm a HUGE downtown fan and hope to see its continual revitalization.

There were many more homeless than I saw in December, but I share where I can. :)

If anyone else can provide downtown updates, please do! I love me some Fremont. (It's NOT Freemont, k?) :)

Thanks for the update. I didn't poke around that end of downtown on my last trip, but hope to make up for it next month. Will report if I see any activity or get the chance to talk to an insider or someone on the site.

    Thanks for the update.

I was in the Lady Luck once (about a year or so before it closed) and I can see where people would like it, but it seemed like the Lady was showing her age....the dealers at the team didn't really seem friendly either.

BUT - if it ever opens again, I would love to see it.

Their facebook page has a picture of the revamping of the sky bridge between towers. There is scafolding up around it, and a truck parked under it, but no workers in sight.

As for homeless, I had a scary encounter last month downtown. I was driving past the neon boneyard on LVB, and wanted to cut over to Main St. A few blocks past Cashman Center, I turned left. Suddenly I came upon HUNDREDS of homeless people with tents, shopping carts, etc. There was some kind of soup kitchen going on, and people were getting their food and just wandering around on the street. There were cardboard homes set up, fires burning, and the entire area looked like a war/refugee zone. By the time I realized what it was, my car was surrounded, and I could not back up and leave. I had to slowly inch forward until I was out of there. It made me think of riots where cars get turned over and set on fire. Scared the crap out of me, and I am used to dealing with homeless people in Seattle on a daily basis.

They just posted a picture on their facebook page of a "major demolition". There was 1 piece of heavy equipment, and it looked like they tore down the entire wall facing the parking lot. Any visible progress is good news at this point.

They had the overhead walkway between the two towers covered up with construction material this week. Looks like they've begun working on stripping it down for a re-facing.

Car was surrounded, you say? A bit dramatic. Lets just go with: there were a lot of homeless people around, and i'm from the burbs.

No, car was surrounded. Read HUNDREDS of people. I Live in downtown Seattle, hardly the burbs. Although I understand we are a little backwoods up here. Not nearly as used to homeless people as you must be in Yuma.....

Here us a link to a story about the area I am talking about. If case you dont have time to read, I have copied a couple of hilights of the story:

    http://www.lvrj.com/news/north-las-vegas-attracting-more-homeless-134169163.html

The number of homeless people living on the streets in and around the area, officially called the Corridor of Hope, more than tripled since 2009.
About two years ago, Las Vegas officials, police, area business owners and social service workers joined forces to disband a tent city hundreds strong that had sprouted on sidewalks along Foremaster Lane and Main Street.

My point being...There were HUNDREDS in 2010 and it has tripled since 2009. My car was surrounded.

I really hope they re-open the Lady Luck. Never visited it.

I hear that if (when?) it re-opens it will be called the Downtown Grand.

I wish they would've just stuck with the Lady Luck.

I love Downtown. This place would be another casino I can lose my money in....

    lol.......!

It's to bad they didn't choose to keep it as Lady Luck..I think The downtown Grand is a stupid name and they could of atleast been a little creative with the name change..

The Facebook page for Downtown 3rd just posted more photos of the renovation, specifically the pedestrian walkway between the towers in front of Mob Museum.

"Downtown Grand" and not Lady Luck??

Does that mean that they won't be giving out "Mr. Mad Money" key chains when they re-open??

    Say it ain't so!!

How cute that is. You're lucky to have been inside before. Never got the priviledge myself.

My wife & I used to looooove our "Mad Money" keyrings. Lady Luck gave them away with coupons, etc. for a number of years.

We would always put keys on them that we would lend to others for various reasons - and those keys would, amazingly, always get retuned to us.

For some reason, "Mr. Mad Money" would just never linger in a pocket or purse!

Sorry Alwaysvegas for the mis spelling if you are referring to any post I may have made in regards to the Fremont. I just didn't think it was a big deal.

I will be sure to proof read my post and check spelling from now on. :)
