I got comped at Aria for a trip coming up next week. My flight will not arrive until after 8pm but my friend who I am staying with will be there all day. Is it possible for him to check in to the room before I arrive if I add his name to the reservation?

Don't know about Aria, but for CET, the one who's name is on the comp reservation needs to be there at check-in.

At CET properties they let your friend check in BUT he must pay whatever the rate is that night and doesn't get a refund until you check in and take over the room.

If you have a host they might be able to do something about it though.

At Bellagio this past weekend, they would not allow me to have friend arriving before me check-in, or allow other friend using comped show tickets pick them up. I had to check-in in-person before anyone else could use comps under my name.

I've always had to check in to the room for my friends, but my host has been able to put other peoples names on show tickets so they can pick them up without me.

Last time I was in this situation I just gave my friend my backup ID, credit card, and players card to check in at Mandalay. He said it was breezy. Obviously I trust him though.

At MGM and Aria they really were adamant that I check in on my comp before I could put my friend on the room. I'd say he should dump his bags at the desk and check in with you.

If you think about it from the hotel's point of view it should be pretty clear they won't let him check in first under your comp... otherwise there'd be people just booking offers for their friends or selling them online and then just saying "when you get there, just tell them I arrive on a later flight" and they'll still give you the room for free.

Yea, they have learned that people might book a room, give to a friend, and never show up.

    They are not so stupid.

I was hoping they could something like this, but it sounds like most MGM properties wont allow this. I understand them not wanting someone else to use my comps, which is why I would think that they could charge the rack rate to my friend unless I show up.

I was really hoping that my firend would be able to stock to the room with alcohol so I could begin the trip off right, but I guess he could check his bags along with any alcohol so that it is ready to be consumed when I arrive:licklips:

I sent an email to aria reservations explains the situation and here is the response I just got:

    "Mr. Xxxxxxx,
    *
Typically when the room is complementary only the player can check in. I will make an exception for this trip and add Xxxxxxxx to the reservation. Thank you and enjoy your stay!"

This is so sweet! It will be so nice to go straight to the room and not wait in line to check in....more time for drinks and gambling! The email was sent from a casino VIP supervisor. I love Aria!

Nice. As known player this should never be an issue. They make exceptions all the time to keep players happy.

It depends. My friend is a High Roller. When I need a room he calls his host and says he wants to use his comps to pay for my room and meals. He has more comps then he knows what to do with. They say Ok even though he isn't in town.

    Comped person must check in

I have never heard of it being handled differently. Unless, of course, you have a very very good relationship with your host, then maybe.

Everything worked out great and my friend had no trouble checking in. It was nice not to have to check in on a Thursday night. Went straight to the room and had a drink!
