I will be in Vegas this afternoon. Looks like it will be in the 100's as far as temperature goes. But is it tolerable? I think it has got to be better than 80 and high humidity. Good luck to all!

I would agree with this statement.

100 isn’t bad out there. The sun will be hot. But, in the shade it will be quite pleasant, IMO.

also agree that 100 with 20% humidity is definitely more tolerable than 80 with 90% humidity.

I live in Boston and am traveling out to Vegas in July....and I'm looking forward to Vegas weather versus my own. That should give you a good idea. ;)

I have been able to walk about in upper 90s, low 100s in Vegas fairly comfortably. Its def hot, but sweat doesnt pour off you like it does in my Ohio climate when the temp gets above 90.

As a guy from Florida where 80oF+ and 70/80% humidity is normal, I have no problem with the high 90's and 100's in LV, as long as I am in shade, but I am the same way at home. I walk out of my way to walk in shade. I constantly seek shade. I will even use a light pole for shade if waiting to cross a street.

Stay out of the direct sun, no problem

I have been in Vegas many times when it has been 105 degrees or more - it is definitely hot but bearable, much better than 80 and humid in NY, believe me!!

The most important thing to remember is to use a lot of sunscreen (the sun in the desert is a lot more potent and there is a higher burn factor in less exposure time) and carry some water around with you and you will be fine. The great thing about Vegas is that you can just duck into a casino to cool off for a while if you feel like it...but I have walked all the way from Bellagio to the Las Vegas Sign and back in over 100 degree heat and it was fine.

And don't forget to drink plenty of water. It makes a difference.

We live in Cincinnati, OH, where it's always humid when it's hot. It's different out there. I always say it's like walking in an oven. But if you stay hydrated, you can walk in it. The good thing about Vegas is there are usually plenty of places on the way to your destination where you can duck in and cool off if you wish. Weirdest thing is, like someone mentioned you don't really seem to sweat outside. It's when you walk inside that it seems to hit!

    Stay cool! :peace:

I grew up in Ohio and I just moved back to Ohio after living in Vegas for 5 years. I was NEVER able to get used to the summer heat in Vegas. I agree that approximately 80-85 degrees with humidity is about the same as 100+degrees without humidity. Remember though that in both instances, daily high temperatures are recorded in the shade. The thing that ALWAYS got me each summer was, for example, parking far from the doors in a walmart parking lot and having to walk to the store. From the car to the store was an absolute oven!! Add probably ten degrees for being in direct sunlight and at least another ten degrees from the heat cooking you from the parking lot pavement!

I was a dealer at O'Sheas and they always had those damn front doors open during the summer. Whenever I'd deal at that front dice table, the winds would shift around 4pm everyday and blow directly from the hot asphalt on the boulevard right in our face. It literally felt the same as if my wife turned her hair dryer on and blew in right in my face.

As others have said, drink plenty of water and cake on the sunscreen if you're gonna be in the Vegas summer sun for more than 20 minutes or so. I might eat my words, but I think I'm looking forward to seeing snow again in few months.

You're right it doesn't pour off you like here in the Midwest, because it is evaporating and you don't sense it, but you are losing it.
Learned that the hardway after golfing our first couple of months of living in Vegas.:nono:

I have to agree with others that the low humidity makes it tolerable. If you plan to walk the strip, inaddition to water and sunscreen, plan to walk through the casinos to check things out and cool off too.

That's why walking past places like Harrah's and Flamingo are great because you can just walk straight thru the casino lobby without detouring at all, with the A/C and be further down the strip when you get out :)

I would rather have the 100deg Vegas heat than humid 80deg as well.

I've been at the LV racetrack in July in 115deg heat at 3pm until midnight where it was still in the 90s. Even at that, it was hot, you complained but all you really needed was a wet towel and cold water all the time. It sucked but it was tolerable. I can deal with that.

Its that pinching dry heat on the skin rather than sweat dripping down your body. Once you get in the car or in the casino, it feels good right away and you wouldnt even remember it was that hot outside. Your body isnt drenched in sweat.

Personally I dont mind that, but I've read in some posts on here that some just cant tolerate any heat at all, even if its just in the 90s. So it just depends on the person.

100 degrees in Vegas > 80s in Chicago. Humidity is the worst here.
