    I have a 5 month old boy.
    Our first and only.
My wife and i have gone to Vegas for years, now.
But we have decided we won't until the boy
is old enough to travel well.
I witnessed an infant screaming because of cabin pressure
    changes ( on a flight to Vegas ) --- I swore I would
never do that to my kid.
    Anyway ----
I just bought new car --
I made the deal w/ the salesman but said "I'll be back, tomorrow."
I call the salesman next day and he says "Hey, we just
started a promotion today....it's good you waited a day....
you have a FREE FLIGHT + HOTEL PACKAGE TO VEGAS !!!!"
    .
    .
    Now, that's just cruel.....isn't it ?:rolleyes2:
    .
    .
My wife + I just looked at each other ---
She asked me "What hotel ?"
I said, "Does it matter ?"
    .
If I want to twist the knife in further......I'll call + find out what hotel.
    .
    .........unbelieveable.........:evillaugh

    Go. A free trip? Go.

Surely, a family member would love to keep watch for your little bundle of joy for a few days. :blowkiss:

Dude, don't be silly. If you have family that can help you out, then go for a few days without your son. It only gets harder to get out to Vegas when they get older, as they become more and more aware.

FWIW, the one and only flight I took with my now 3 year old daughter was when she was 2 months old. Never heard a peep. As long as they're feeding during takeoff, you're fine.

    My 2 cents, anyway. :)

    Seriously. I would go.

It is not just a trip to Las Vegas.

It is a free trip to Las Vegas.

If it wasn't free, I don't think there would justification to ask a relative to watch your child. The relative would be more willing to help you out since the trip is free.

If the trip was not free, that person might be less understanding.

Or, if your wife is still nursing, still take the baby and have a different kind of Vegas trip. Babies can fly. And based on my friends & family - the earlier you start them, the better travelers they are in the long run:peace:

Wife and I left our 5 month old at home with grandma for a week to go to Phoenix and Vegas just a couple weeks ago. Thought about him a lot, talked about him a lot and called home twice each day. Had a blast and didnt miss him near as much as we thought we would. Leave the critter at home and spend some alone time with your wife.

(If your wife is breast feeding, this could be a problem. )

    Jersey guy -
    I understand.
    .
    I looked up "TravelAmerica" -
The webpage says they are based in CA + WAS.
    My brochure is from WAS.
    .
It does not mention what hotel -
but does mention they buy up unsold rooms -
so i'm guessing "the hotel" could be several
different ones depending upon the time.
    .
    Webpage mentions their "clients" --
the second "client" was "Car dealerships".
    .
This is gonna be a tough call.......:confused2:

Joe,I checked out their website also.

They say they're in the business of corporate incentives, they make no mention of time-shares or anything like that. I looked at the drop down that lists their standard packages and the Vegas one doesnt include air so you may want to check that out .
My theory ,and its just that, says to me that the cost of the trip is built into all that after -sale crap they hit you with.
Congrats on the new baby and good luck with the new Hundai.
Sorry if I'm negative or suspicious,a better word, about the trip ,I do hope it works out for you.

Nah, it's likely a legit package that they buy in bulk for dimes on the dollar. Several of the companies I do business with put them together as sales incentives or customer rewards. There may be restrictions or hoops to jump through, but my money says the offer is good.

I read the FINE PRINT yesterday.
    .
It said there is a $40 registration fee -
that was not in the FINE PRINT -- it was pretty
    much up front....however...
    .
The Vegas Trip has a $98 flyer, taxes, airport, yada-yada fee.
Once, you send in the fee -- a consultant will
call you + set up your trip.
I have 18 mos. after the registration fee to take the trip ---
I would never wait THAT long !
    .
I e-mail a Vegas buddy of mine about it -
he also, just had a baby boy --
he asked "So, when are we going ?":evillaugh

Joe, thank you for your concern. Many of us absolutely hate those couples who bring their young one on the plane, only to have the kid cry most of the flight. While many say that they didn't have any problems with the kid on the plane, the rest of us flyers know that many kids do have a problem flying, even with ear plugs in the kid's ears.

It is so ridiculous that these couples think that everyone else is okay with a kid on the plane. Most of us travelers can't stand a kid on the flight but have no choice once the doors are closed.

I think each baby is different on flights, while some are okay, most aren't. I seriously doubt that having babies fly earlier will make them better travelers (sorry Hoya). The problem is cabin pressure. Many babies don't understand the discomfort of pressure on their ears (even with plugs) and so cry to express their discomfort and confusion. As they get older their ears and body adjust to the cabin pressure better and so don't cry (hopefully) as much. I wouldn't recommend putting a baby through multiple cabin pressure changes (from multiple trips) when they are less then 6 months old IMHO.

I have a serious problem with young kids on planes. Since I'm from Hawaii, to hear a kid cry on a 5 1/2 hour flight is excruciating. Once I had a kid in the next row cry for all 5 1/2 hours, that was extremely unpleasant. Unlike other posters, I have many friends who refuse to fly with their young one, usually waiting until the kid is at least 1 before subjecting the kid to the cabin pressure. They learned from the first baby, hard to keep the kid from crying sometimes.

I can understand the kid's condition. Once I had a head cold and flew from lv to sf. My ears and head hurt the whole flight and I was in excruciating pain the whole flight. My ears hurt for days after because of the cabin pressure.

But if you really are getting a free trip, it would be very hard to turn down. I would probably either leave the kid with relatives (if he started bottle feeding) or you could just take the kid and have your wife breastfeed him the whole flight to keep him quiet (though her nipples might be sore after, lol). As others have said, get ear plugs to try to lessen the pressure on your baby's ears.

It is great that you have compassion for your fellow travellers and we travellers thank you for it, but still, for a free flight it is hard to turn it down.
