'Tis true, Scotsman! In the US we have no patience or respect for SOCCER. We encourage the children to sign up for it, because it's the one sport where we can just throw them all on a field and not have them be singled out as horrible (can't really do that as well when we make them try to play baseball . . . they all have to bat and eventually a ball is going to come to them which they will have to try to catch).

Plus, with soccer we don't really have to buy much equipment for them either. No bats, no helmets, nothing fancy.

We like putting our kids in soccer because we can just get drunk on the sidelines and pretend like we give a crap. Later when they say, "Hey did you see me?" we can lie. "Oh, yeah, Son! You were great! Running after the ball and then, uhh, running after the ball again. Top form, Son! Really!"

None of the kids ever continue playing soccer. They eventually turn 12 and realize no one cares and it's certainly not going to help them get girls so they move on to real sports, like FOOTBALL.

The LA Galaxy soccer team was so stupid they actually thought people in America would give a crap if they sunk a billion dollars into getting Beckham to play for them. Nope. They missed a key point. We don't like soccer. We like CELEBRITIES. And we got excited as all get up when we got Davey Boy over here because he was a new celebrity that we could talk about. No one could tell you even the tiniest bit about his sports career, though.

Anyway, let me apologize for our boys beating your boys. If I were you I would be pissed too. I think it would hurt doubly knowing that NO ONE in America even knew the game happened (I only knew because of this thread).

What you call football is played by real men in the rest of the world, who don't wear safety suits.

    Totally different games

Thats like comparing baseball and cricket, soccer is popular in many urban locations like North Jersey in a large part beacuse of the influx of people from other countries. To give you Scots your due,Kearney NJ was a town populated largely by Scots and produced some of the best US players for years .And I love your whiskey ,much better than soccer.

The last bit of soccer I saw was during the world cup, and i most likely wont see another second of it until the next one - do they play soccer in the olympics? I know some people think baseball is boring to watch, but soccer has got to be the worst, golf has more thrills,

Exactly. Not only did we not know the game was going on, it did not make the L.A. Times sports page, or the sports highlights on this mornings newscast. No one cares.

UFC had a lot of coverage in both the paper as well as the news. Baseball gets all the coverage at the moment, along with the NBA playoff highlights.

    Yip a bit like scotland.

And of course all us Scotsmen will be supporting England in the euros !!!!!!!

    Who is this "celebrity" Beckham

Nobody in the USA knew about this game? , funny then that 44,000 turned up to see it.

American football summed up ,3 ton of protection , run for 30 secs, need oxygen , game stopped for 10 mins , repeat.lol

Bad news on the Scotland soccer team

    Technolight a.k.a. A unhappy Scotsman.....

Don't feel bad because the Scotland team didn't stand a chance at winning because they played in Florida, USA, our home turf. Florida is hot and humid
and the USA Fans are mostly Latinos who love soccer and put some bad vibes on the Scotland team. lol.

Plus, the players had not gotten paid any money since March 2012. That is three months of NO MONEY! The Scotland Owners are in financial trouble.

Our American soccer team has never been a great team as compared to the
    Latino Countries.
My own personal view is that Brazil has always been number one in my memory eventhough other Latino countries have great soccer players too and have won too. Those Latino countries is where American soccer players get their butts kicked. Just watch! LucyR.

What we have here is an international breakdown :)

In England we love to needle each other about stuff like this, it's the basis for most good nights out!

It was not meant to cause offense, or be taken seriously.

Scotsmen have never taken football seriously ,if we had we would all have committed suicide years ago.

The best banter in the world is a Scotsman and an Englishman in a pub talking about football.

We love each other , honest.
