On our last three cruises, we received some pretty good comps because of gambling.

With Carnival, we booked through their casino marketing department and got a nice discount on the cabin, nice gift in the cabin, cash from the cage and free drinks while playing after acquiring X amount of points.

With Norwegian, we got free drinks after X amount of points and at the end of the cruise, I went to the casino players desk and they covered my charges which were around $47.

Just saying, if you're going to play anyway while cruising, check out their new rewards programs.

Oh, I hit a royal last week aboard the Norwegian Jewel. Me so happy!

i called a couple of cruise lines a while back and looked into their comp systems. the bottom line is that compared to land casinos, the comps are terrible. and the rules of the game are terrible. and the limits are very low. sure if you're going to be there anyway and be gambling anyway, you might as well try to get some comps. but save any type of serious money for a place that will appreciate you like the casinos in Vegas.

I agree 100% with what you say but if you're going to play anyway, take advantage of what they give you. Just a couple of years ago, you would be lucky to get one free drink.

I guess if you call comped cruises and free drinks terrible...... I am a low roller in comparison to lots of you guys, but with NCL I get a comped room, all my meals and drinks in the casino for 7 or more days. Although I generally only get an ocean view room comped, many players get balconies and suites comped, and I usually upgrade for a small amount to a balcony or suite. Depending on play, they will also comp additional on board expenses. I do have to pay taxes, but it is usually less than $200 total for the week.

I agree that the onboard casinos are not for really serious gamblers, but if you enjoy cruising and playing you can do really well. Congratulations on hitting a Royal on the Jewel, Don! I had one of my biggest slot hits ever on the Jewel and she is one of my favorite ships!
