Looks like I will be heading to Detroit for work for about 9 days total, and I def want to hit up MGM... Thoughts on the casino etc..... Any help is appreciated Thanks ladies and gents.....
We live in the Detroit Suburbs too and I would tell you to save your $$. Drinks are not free, food is expensive too. I don't find the paytables on VP to be all that great either. The building is nice, but honestly, that's about it. You would be better to save your $$ for Vegas.
well that is good to know about the drinks I am a tables guy (craps, roulette, occasional bj) I have never been to Detroit which is hard to believe since I spent 175+ days on the road last year... I figured it would be cool to go to since I will be heading to Vegas in July.... Granted I could catch a baseball game at Detroit... so that isnt horrible....
Tigers game is a great idea, as well as Slows BBQ, Mexican Town for authentic Mexican food, and of course Greektown. There are 3 casinos in Detroit (MGM Grand, Motor City Casino, and Greektown Casino -with the second not in a great area) Comerica Park is not far from Greektown Casino though but keep in mind there are no free drinks in Detroit. Also there is Ceasars in Windsor ONtario Canada - but without an enhanced DL or Passport, it can be difficult getting into/out of Canada. Are you staying in Detroit or the suburbs? Let me know and I can recommend somethings to do in the area.
I am not sure yet as I haven't booked travel.....I have a passport so heading to canada could be an option....how far is it from Detroit are ? BBQ and Mexican sound amazing Thanks for the suggsestions keepem coming !!!!
Where exactly are you going to be in the Detroit area? Are you going to be working in the city of Detroit, or a city outside of Detroit? In Dearborn - which is closer to the airport is the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village is pretty cool too.
I'm an MLife die hard but find the MGM Detroit disappointing compared to Vegas. Could be just the Vegas atmosphere, but I found MGM Detroit to be over run with let's say surely characters. I don't like the layout either.
Since I only plan on checking it out because I am in town is the only reason Id consider it JennJenn: Well If I told you Id have to kill you LOL long story but its a classified project hahaha
We have three casinos in downtown, MGM, Greek Town and Motorcity. Parking at the MGM and Motorcity are free. Greek Town you need to have a players card for free parking, so parking outside somewhere in Greek town isn't a bad idea to save a few bucks. I would check out all three since you have time. Heading to Caesars and downtown windsor would also be cool. You must stop in a American and Lafayette Coney Island, they are right next to each other and both claim to have created the coney island. Only condition you have to report which one you liked more, lol. http://www.americanconeyisland.com/home.htm http://www.yelp.com/biz/lafayette-coney-island-detroit For BBQ, Red Smoke is good right outside Greektown Casino. Slows BBQ is also good but its outside of downtown. From Slows you have a nice view of the old train station which is cool. http://www.yelp.com/biz/red-smoke-barbecue-detroit Eastern Market is cool to checkout on Saturday. - http://www.detroiteasternmarket.com For get Deli I would try Russell Street Deli, in Eastern Market. http://www.yelp.com/biz/russell-street-deli-detroit-2 In Greek town you can find one of the stations for the people mover, Its a tram that circles downtown. Not bad to take the complete loop, cheap fun. Downtown dearborn, Birmingham and Cranbrook are amongst the other things people have mentioned aren't bad to check out. As always be safe.
If you are a VP player Greektown has many 9/6 Jacks or Better and their comp system is very good plus their buffet is reasonable
