    Hello!

So we've finally booked our trip. After weeks of looking at dates, airfares, vacation schedules, whose going to watch the kids, what are we going to do with the dog, we booked our flight last night! 7/8 - 7/12!!!

We also have changed our hotel locations like a billion times, and were pretty set on Golden Nugget for 4 nights, until I went to get the mail this morning.

We have an offer of $50 freeplay and 2 Comped nights at Luxor or the Trashy Castle....obviously leaning towards the Luxor. The problem is we really never end up on that side of the strip, so I have no idea how the rooms are, the VP paytables, drinks, dining, etc.

I would love some advice on the Luxor. We have two comped nights in a Deluxe room.

    Thanks!

I know I will be the minority but I like Luxors casino myself, the vibe is a little younger than Mandalay but up a step or 3 from Excalibur is. I cannot answer on VP since I dont play much VP but the slots there for us have been some of the best on the Strip. The dining is a little limited but getting better, Tender is an over looked steak and seafood place that we hit many times and have never been let down, they also have a new place which has opened in Cathouse thats more of s sports bar type it seems. But you do have Mandalay and Mandalay Place right there with many dining options. For drinks Liquidity and Flight are both good choices and LAX is one of my top clubs in the city. We are staying there in less than two weeks due to a great offer, we usually stay at THEhotel but this offer was too good to pass up. The rooms in the Pyramid itself can be a little noisy but the Pyramid Spa suite we stayed in last time there was pretty decent, the Tower rooms which is where we are staying are supposed to be nicer and more updated than the Pyramid rooms.

    For the Luxor:

The VP is crappy (google "vpfree2 luxor"), like everywhere else on the Strip. Downtown is much better.

The Pyramid Deluxe (basic) rooms are OK, but noisy because there's nothing blocking the sounds from the atrium. The tower rooms are fine, but slightly inconvenient. Most or all rooms of both types don't have wireless internet, if I remember correctly.

Tender, the steakhouse, is good. Tacos and Tequila is not bad, but a little pricey for what you get. Rice and Company is good, but their basic sushi rolls - the ones discounted during their happy hour - suck (the specialty ones are better). If you go there in a drinking mood, ask for the "Mexican Samurai" - a spicy, sour, and sweet cocktail that's not on their menu anymore but is delicious. They also have a lot of other tasty cocktails. The buffet is below Strip standards but passable, especially for breakfast. The Burger Bar (in the walkway from Luxor to Mandalay Bay) is really good food and has a large selection of beers.

It's also convenient to both Mandalay Bay, which has some good eats, and Excalibur, which, uh...has restaurants too. Anything else is going to be a bit of a hike.

Edit: hey Bubba, looks like we are going at the same time. Are you going to the slot tourney?

Luxor puts you between Mandalay Bay and Excalibur. You can travel back and forth without going outside which is nice.

Just between Luxor and MB and the tiny mall in between you should have plenty of selections for food.

And between the 3 places you will have plenty of options for gambling.

I have a question about Luxor

Is it a very long walk from the front door of Luxor to the rooms in the towers?

Stayed in Luxor tower rooms last November (2011.) Decent, clean rooms, nothing to complain about. No Wifi and no safes were only negative imo.

Loved slumming through the Excalibur each night as we staggered back to our rooms in Luxor. I enjoyed the drunken ride on the moving walkway. Also fun to people watch as everyone returns from their nights out on the town....it can be very entertaining.

Luxor casino is fun, dealers were good when we were there (craps mostly.) Sports book is kind of nonexistent, but close to the Mandalay sports book which is a great place to hang out and watch games and catch a few drinks.

The Asian restaurant in Luxor (name escapes me right now) was just ok, wouldn't recommend. Burger Bar between Luxor/MB is a good pub atmosphere with good burgers. HOB is in MB and fun to visit, especially for breakfast.

You will enjoy your stay at Luxor.

We stayed there a couple years back in a room in the pyramid and it was the quietest room we've ever had. The pool was nice. We had a cabana for a day and really enjoyed the pool. Overall, I would recommend Luxor to anyone.

There's a tourney at Excalibur on Friday-Saturday that weekend. 20K cash for 1st place, $500-5000 freeplay for various places from 50th-2nd. I've never been in one (I'm a table game player, except for a day-long LOTR: Two Towers spree that seems to have classified me as a slot player across MGM's systems), so I got my host at the Luxor to sign me up - it included free rooms at the Luxor and free entry into the tourney.

I'd have to completely disagree about the Tower Rooms.

The East Tower rooms are actually VERY convenient. You can be back in your room from the casino in under 5 minutes, easily.

We've stayed in the large suites on the top floors (29th and 30th) of the Pyramid a few times. The atrium does not extend to those floors, so we didn't have noise from the lower floors. There is a safe in the closet (the same type safe as is used at THEHotel) in those suites.

The Luxor is fine, but I would lean towards Mandalay Bay if the option is there. The pyramid rooms are like Motel 6 rooms with a slanted window and some Egyptian theming. The tower rooms are a step up for sure with separate tub and shower and better bedding... but they are a hike from the casino. If you can get upgraded to a players suite I would go for that. They are pyramid rooms with flat screen TV's. Your best bet is getting upgraded to a tower room. It seems they they like to offer those up all the time.

The VP is pretty bad at Luxor. The paytables are pretty bad and thew drink service is mediocre. If you want better options, just walk over to Mandalay Bay where the drinks are flowing quickly with top shelf booze, premium beers, and **better** paytables. Excalibur has some 9/6 DDBP machines by the new burger place (ABX I think) with progressive royals... They have good service too but no top shelf selections unless you make good friends with the waitre$$e$.

Luxor has a great remodeled casino, . The rooms however are not. Stay away from the trashy castle it's gross haha.

Sadly Mandalay Bay is not an option - only Luxor and the castle. I appreciate everyone's comments. When I showed the offer to my husband, he wasn't impressed. He doesn't want to move hotels and really wants to stay downtown. Should I present this offer to a downtown hotel and see if they will match it? I could care less where we stay as long as it's clean and safe.

What about asking another MGM hotel if they could match that offer? Should we wait to see what might come next month? Thanks again everyone!

    Walk, walk, walk

Yes, it is a longer walk to the towers, then rooms on the Pyramid, you walk all the way down, past the exit to the pools,
to get to the tower elevator.

But most mega's there are good walks Involved, part of the deal.
    Hint: Comfy shoes a MUST!
You do walk past a very frendly staffed Starbucks, so have a cup on the way.

While at Luxor, don't forget to see Carrot Top.

I think it was 3rd or 4th. I am a light sleeper and had no problem.

Wow, I would have assumed it was a high floor if you had quiet.

Might be staying at Luxor for one night when we first arrive. Normally first night is early to bed due to the East coast time change and traveling. No reason to pay for The Hotel for that Sat. night if I am just sleeping. I always wanted to stay at Luxor. I think I can handle one night.

I stayed at Excalibur 5 nights. Not better nor worse than Trop, NYNY, Harrah's, Riviera, IP, or similar priced props.
One thing better at Excalibur, is the free re-fills at buffets. I hated the buffet at Trop. As for location; less people. The tram is a waste of time.

No, it wasn't a high floor because I remember looking out to the casino floor when we left our room. I was (pleasantly) surprised to say the least because I figured it would be noisy where our room was located.
