    Hi everyone,

Will be heading to Vegas for the first time in almost 10 years next month. Got a great deal on the Mirage.

I booked my trip through Mlife in early February, for 3 nights originally, May 17-20. As luck would have it, I was able to get a few extra days off from work, and added two more nights, May 21 and 22, again through Mlife, but had a seperate confirmation number. I'm pretty sure I booked a standard room, and was going to try to get a complimentary upgrade when I arrived.

This is where things get a little odd. I called Mirage just to confirm everything was all set as I didn't want there to be any confusion on my arrival (2 confirmation numbers, etc.). The girl said I had to talk to Casino VIP Services. Ok, cool, although I didn't realize I was a VIP, lol. Once transferred, I spoke to a very nice girl who was able to combine both transactions into my original confirmation number. She also sent an email, signed by "Casino VIP Services", that outlined the days of my stay, the daily rates, room tax, daily resort fee, etc.

The email then goes on to say "Every effort will be made to accomodate any requests for specific room type and location, but cannot be guaranteed as rooms are not assigned until arrival. If you have any questions, or need assistance with dinner or show reservations, please contact Casino VIP Services."

First question - what is the best view/upgrade to ask for there? Has anyone really had any success upgrading from a basic room to an actual suite, or even a Tower Suite (or Penthouse even)? From what I've read here it seems the Tower Deluxe is the usual basic upgrade from a standard room. My preference for an upgrade would be:

    1) Tower Suite (Floors 26-28), one bedroom
    2) Mirage Suite, one bedroom
    3) King Tower Deluxe

Also, has anyone ever experienced the above "specific room types are not assigned until arrival?" If that's the case for me, I suppose I should just start off by asking for a Tower Suite since a specific room type doesn't seem to be reserved for me. Or is there something I'm completely overlooking?

Any advice/tips and anyone with experiences at Mirage would be appreciated! Thanks guys!

The wording about room type is very standard and use often. I have seen it for even regular rooms. I read your post a few times and can not see what type of room they have reserved for you.

As to asking for a Tower Suite - well, good luck with that.

We were out in Vegas in Jan. for my birthday and we asked for an upgrade. We were offered a 1 bedroom tower suite for $50 extra per night. Think our room rates were comp/$39/$39. Went for it (my bday ;-) ) and all I can say is it was well worth the extra $$$. We will be out there again in 10 days! and we plan to ask for the upgrade again. Doubt we will get it with it being Kentucky Derby weekend. Good luck!

I think you probably stand a better chance of getting struck by lightening than you do of getting a free upgrade to a Tower Suite - especially for 5 nights - that room is typically $100 more a night. You could possibly get a Tower room. But you could also find out how much a paid upgrade would cost when you check in.

I stayed in the Tower suite last month, it was very nice.

Mayweather is fighting on Saturday night at MGM - no chance in hell of getting that upgrade at that price....

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I actually don't have any problem paying for the upgrade since what I paid originally to book the rooms each night was cheaper than the nightly cost of a Motel 6. However since they don't have me booked to a "particular" type of room, I'm going to shoot big when checking in, and go from there. It is Vegas right? Everything's a gamble, win some, lose some. :)

I'm pretty sure the wording is referring to specific requests within what you paid for. For example, some people request a high floor, or a low floor, or a room near the elevator, or a room far away from the elevator. The wording means that, even if you made the reservation and the request a year in advance, it doesn't matter; the actual room isn't assigned until you show up.

This is also my understanding, but they will also not guarantee a king versus two queens, smoking versus non-smoking, etc. I have never had a problem with my room type not being available as requested, but they use the "no guarantees" disclaimer on those requests too.

There could be overbooking of a particular room type, but I would think that at a nicer place like the Mirage they would do their best to treat you right.

I don't think the OP has anything to worry about, checking in on a Thursday, even with that being a very busy weekend in Vegas. Checking in at 10 PM on a Friday might be another story.

What else is going on that weekend in Vegas that's going to make it a busy weekend? I just realized as I read your post that it's the weekend of the Preakness!! There's OTB's here in CT that allow betting on the horses, but doing it in Vegas just seems right.

Victoria Day is May 21 -- long weekend in Canada. And yes, the Preakness!

I got this same upgrade price ($50/night) for a Tower Suite this past Sun-Wed. Well worth it, totally gorgeous room. Get a pool / south Strip facing room if you can.

I was also offered a $40/night upgrade to a Mirage Suite. A bit smaller, and it was only on the 10th floor with a north view, so I chose the Tower Suite instead.

I've always gotten an upgrade to a Delux view room when I asked for one at Mirage. Never even needed a $20 trick. Never asked for a Suite, but I'd say it'll be much more difficult since you are staying 5 nights.

That's the upgrade I'm hoping they offer me. I don't want it for free, totally willing to pay the extra. Were you able to see the volcano from your suite?

 I'm at least going to give it the old college try, I'll definitely let you all know what happens. 9 more days, they can't go by soon enough!!! I will miss my cat though, first time I'll be away from him for this long since I adopted him 5 years ago.
