Please allow me to refer you to my most recent thread on airfare.

I checked Southwest today. The non-stop flight from Cleveland to LV is still high for June 4-8 and I would have to pay a $256 difference between what I booked the May flights for. If I change dates I can get N/S flights for "only" $168 more, but can't afford to stay at PH. This is what I'm deciding between. Price is for two.

    N/S flights June 4-8 -- 4 nights at PH -- $1,075

Same dates, change planes once in Chi going & arrive 2 1/2 hrs later 4 nights at PH -- $989

    N/S flights June 21-26 -- 5 nights at GN -- $987

    Which would you choose?

I would stick with your first option - here's why:

    1. We would never stay downtown, we are Strip people.
    2. For $86 for 2 people, I think it is worth the extra 2 1/2 hours in Vegas.

    Longer stay, less money.

    I'd go with door #1.

I'll join the consensus, number one, longer stay and non-stop flights. Even though GN is another night, you will spend $86 going to the strip and back, unless you are 100% down town people. Also eat up that extra 2.5 hours going back and forth.

Actually, choice #3 is the longer stay - 5 nights.

Choice #1 is only 4 nights.

He meant that choice #1 is longer than #2 (because you spend less time in transit).

This is all very different person to person. But to me, I don't think the savings you are looking at are worth the extra flight time.

As for 1 vs 3, PH was where you originally wanted to stay. Do you want to compromise on that to save a buck on flight? Will you be happy spending most of your time downtown, or will you eat up those savings in commuting costs?
Plus, another day in vegas also means you need to budget more to eat and gamble (or stretch the existing budget over more time).

Go with the later dates to get the longer trip with less expensive (and nonstop) flights, and keep looking for better hotel deals on the Strip. What's your total budget for the hotel if you go June 21-26?

Hmm, I don't have a total budget figured out.

I want to avoid Harrahs, IP, and Flamingo due to construction.

Other places like Monte Carlo, Treasure Island, etc. are too expensive, plus have resort fees.

For the later dates in June, GN seems to have the best price for a nice hotel.

    Option #1 all the way!

Unless you really like downtown (I personally don't) you will be much more happy at PH right on the strip.

What about Excalibur? Too far South? You can get some great prices there with promo codes and there's always the chance of an upgrade to a renovated Widescreen room at check-in. Just trying to throw some options out there.

I'll have to check the prices for Excalibur and remember to include the resort fee.

What rate did you get at Planet Hollywood and GN?

EDIT: I see $487.20 total with taxes and resort fees for a Widescreen (renovated) room at Excalibur June 21-26.

$397.60 for a basic room (then slip a $20 and see if they upgrade you).

Only $222 for the four nights at Planet Hollywood - June 4-8 only! Can't touch those prices any other time.

GN is $372 for the 5 nights.

Another option on the 5 nighter would be to spend the first three nights at GN and the last two at TI. Here's a special they're having for $79 a night plus 2 for 1 dinner buffet. It says "No resort fee (optional)". Whose option - the customer? Of course they wouldn't want the resort fee.

Oops, that link doesn't seem to be working. It's with the 79TV promo code.

Just checked PH for June 24-25. Not bad. I could stay those last two nights for $123.20 total. First three nights at the GN. How does that sound?

Even their Hot Deals comes in at $336 plus tax so I would book the PH room right away. You will be charged the first night & then have time to cancel it if you change your mind. (Unless it is on some type of non-refundable promo).

No CET casinos near you that you have play on a card more recent than 5 years ago? Even if you hae played in Tunica, St. Louis, Joliet, etc., make sure you are logged into your card # online & see what the rates come up as. (Or call if you can't find your card # any longer).

    Just as a thought:

If all this is pushing the limits of your budget you should make up your mind and book something soon.

Based on the other thread it looks like you've been going back and forth on this for about 5 days now... since your trip really isn't that far off every day that goes by brings a chance that more seats will be sold on those flights you are looking at, and as more seats are sold there is a chance the prices will go up, based on supply and demand.

Also I was going to add: if you are going to be gambling on this trip don't forget that Total Rewards properties and MLife properties give you credits you can use to apply to your hotel bill. How much that is really depends on how much you gamble, but if you are planning on doing a fair bit that could potentially take a chunk out of your final hotel bill.

No help with the bill as far as a card. I'm not a gambler. It's all out of pocket.

Going back and forth for 5 days? LOL. I've been stewing about this trip for over two months. I've been booked five nights at the IP for May, but I'm going to cancel that one.

It would anger me to pay that much more for the N/S flight on June 4 when other N/S flights are less on other dates. That's why I'm leaning toward the 5 night trip...but now wondering if I should do the split so I'd get a taste of PH.

Oh yeah, I know what you are saying :)

I'm just saying that since you came and quoted all these current prices... that was back on April 19th so been a few days now and chance they have or could go up in price.
