    My Trip Report

We just got back from an amazing week in the city we all love, staying at our favorite hotel/casino, the Mirage. It amazes me that we never get tired of vacationing there... if anything, we seem to love it the more we go...hmmm, could that be classified as an addiction? Well....bring it on!! [IMG] We decided that we are way too predictable.. Jim at the CPK calls us by name and the first night we eat there, and he asks "the usual"? Sunday morning, I walk up to the lady (her name escapes me...but hey, I "am 50!!...lol) that works the dolphin bar at the pool and she says "Mimosa and a large water?" But what the heck... we have a ball so I guess it doesn't matter. We love hanging at the pool and the weather was beautiful... low 90's all week. We usually go in the summer, but our daughter went off to college this fall so we are free to go whenever.... Sept/Oct. is awesome! We got in town about 4pm on Sat. the 2nd... checked in, made a drink in our room and headed to the casino. We mostly play VP but also play some BJ & Roulette. I was wanting to play some poker since I've been playing a lot on partypoker.com and hodling my own. But... I talked to a few guys at the pool that we became freinds w/ that play and they both said that the house takes such a large rake that if you're breaking even or even winning a few more than you lose, you ultimately end up w/ a dwindling pot. We play w/ some neighbors about twice a week at home, so I guess I'll just stick to that. I'm thinking a one table tournament game would be good if they have any?? It always seems like that first day we never do anything spectacular (gambling).... maybe it's cuz we're tired..too excited...or?? We ended up about even, so I condidered that a good day for the first evening. Sunday morning, we got up... went to the Roasted Bean for coffee and headed to the floor. We decided to play some $0.25 JOB to warm up... about 30 mins into it, Mrs. Dino hits the progressive for $1,197! Nice...right under the $1,200 W2 limit. We decided to hang onto it for a little while anyway so headed to the pool for some heat and swimming. Is it just "old" Dino or are women in their 30's to late 40's (incl my sexy bride) just way better looking than the 20 yr olds?? I guess I'm from the era that enjoys ladies w/ a few curves versus the stick look [IMG] Anyway... I'm rambling here. To hit the gambling high points, I hit a $1 VP progressive for $6,341 on Wed. and my bride hit yet another $0.25 machine for $1,434 on Friday morning. I'm thinking that we need to savor this cuz something tells me there will not be a trip like this again in a long time [IMG] We of course gambled a bit more than normal since we were "up" ( I think the casino's pretty much count on that and I'd hate to dissapoint them!), but we did end up bringing $5k home on top of what we brought, so it was an incredible trip. I know it's 90% luck but I can't say enough about using Bob Dancers software to practice on before you go. On Fiday night before we came home, we went over to the Fontanna lounge at Bellagio and had a few drinks and watched the fountains from the deck. What an incredible view!! You pay dearly for drinks out there but what the hell... it's Vegas right? A young copule got married and were having there reception at Bellagio and were having there photos taken out there on the patio so they were playing about 3 songs and fountain shows in row for them...what a hit! They looked great...ahhhh, to be young again...well, maybe not that young  The only other mentionable outing was dinner at Kokomo's on Wed night after seeing Danny Gans (for the 1st time after going to LV for 12 yrs). If you're a steak lover, the Filet Mignon there is soooooo good. You can cut it w/ a fork. And if you're gonna be bad, you might as well have the garlic mashed potatoes too. I'm hitting the excercise a little extra this week..lol. Oh yea, the other thing I wanted to mention is, we did see quite a few people winning this time. Nothing that I'd call "huge" but quite a few $2-4K payouts. One older guy hit $15K but he was playing a $5 machine... I just can't get myself to do that... hell, I have to have a few cocktails just to "numb up" to play the dollar VP. Well, I hope you all enjoyed the trip report. I Pm'd Doc Al for help on posting a photo of us in the "Sin thread". I figured some of the "mature" folks need to get on board there too! Well.... maybe "older" is a better word....nobody ever called me "mature" ~grin~ Dino

Dino! Welcome back. It seems like you had an amazing trip. I am so gald that you and your wife both did well because it is really horrible when one person wins and the other one just can't do anything. $5,000 more than you wnet down with is wonderful. I guess you are going to have to book another trip sooner than you thought???

Did you get to the TI at all? I will be there in less then a month and am interested in any of the changes you had seen.

Nice report, Dino. So I'm curious. Was the pool busy, or did you have to resort to tipping? Just wanted to see how it works out for others.

Sounds to me like your having fun now ;)

My husband and I have only stayed at the Golden Nugget. We are going to break up our trip next time and stay on the strip for a few days then Downtown. I want to stay at the Mirage. I'm glad you love it so. We have eaten at Kokomo's.. OMG.. we thought it was great. Nice trip report and congrat's on you both winning!!!

    Dino...

That's the kind of trip report that kinda gets me back in the Vegas mood. [IMG]

    Congrats on the nice win.

Dino nice trip! Sounds like you two had a blast! As for the "small" 2-4K wins, all I can say is that is big money for me! Glad you guys came home ahead-makes planning the next trip much easier!

    DINO!!

Sounds like a great trip! I'm with you on the Mirage...we just love that place.

    That's a huge win...$5k...Man.

You shoulda played poker...playing in the Mirage poker room is one of the great pleasures for a poker player...is the rake high? probably, but I'll bet that delicious steak wasn't cheap either, and you thouroughly enjoyed it, right? ;) something for next time....

Now that you two are free, and have a fat Vegas bankroll, any interest in coming out for the Madness?

    Hope you can make it!

Hey all... thanks for the nice comments, you guys are all part of what makes Vegas such a great place to visit [IMG]

Smarra ~ we did go over to TI.. pretty quiet in the casino. Tangerine was pretty cool though.

Angy ~ the pool was the usual zoo...lol We like to hang there about 4 hours (9-1) so it's worth it to us to get in line to get a pool side chair. It opended at 9 and my wife got in line about 7:30..I personally wowuldn't get in line that early but she loves to read and just takes her book w/ her... lucky me [IMG]

Mikey ~ thanks, it's nice to hear I could help your mental outlook [IMG]

Sin ~ those are big jackpost for me too! lol I just meant that we didn't see any wins that were life changing... maybe "for the night" changing though....~grin~

Terry ~ not sure when we're going again yet. I'd luv to meet all of you but to tell you the truth, I try to plan our trips when it's least crowded...Vegas at its peak population drives me nuts...enuff lines as it is [IMG] I always check to see when there is a fight in town, Superbowl, MM (sorry) or some huge concert and plan around that. Stay in touch and we'll hook up some other time when we're both going. We're probably not your typical Vegas party maniacs... we have drinks and fun but usually in bed (not neccesarily asleep...do you think people can see in those windows at night?? [IMG] ) by 11 and love to get up and gamble in the morning when its quiet and you can enjoy your coffee and some good tunes..pretty boring huh? [IMG]

Dino, I hate to tell you this but my husband travels with binoculars always, and on our last trip when we were having cocktails in our room at Aladdin with our friends, they kept trading off the binocs to look in the rooms at Paris and see if anything "interesting" was going on....So yes, people can see in those rooms.

Notice I did not mention that I used the binocs to view other rooms. I did not. I was too busy drinking ;) Which is not to say I'm not a freak, I just have never been a binoc-voyeur in Vegas....

Besides--I know they're not the only ones who do this--wasn't there a part of Terry's trip report where he saw a couple having sex against a window somewhere??

Hmmmm.....well, I say if they wanna look, then enjoy the show...I know I would [IMG] Hoya, your hubby sounds like a pretty normal guy to me... in fact, I like his idea...we never see anything ;) not that we look of course ~Dino

PS ~ does that mean that you "are" a binoc-voyeur when you visit "other" places? ~grin~

Hoya, I was actually remembering that same thread just a few days ago and decided to try & find it... it was someone else's trip report (who's name escapes me now) but Terry posted a poll about it. Too funny. This board makes me laugh every day! [IMG]

Nothing like having my opinion validated! I told Frank people could see into the rooms when they were left uncovered...he just smiled and I thought I saw a bit of the devil horns coming out! [IMG] I guess you are right Dino if you want to look be my guest. As long as the people looking don't get on the elevator talking about that couple doing the nasty on the 24th floor...

Getting the "Norm" treatment at the Mirage can't be all bad. But you've got to get to the poker room. Sure it's a negative-expectation game, but so are the others, right? Nice read, thanks.
