    My Trip Report

Here's a quick rundown of my recent business trip to Vegas. Had to fly to Dallas first from Chicago for a meeting and then on to Vegas that night. Of course, my flight from Dallas was 2 hours late. Arrive about 10 pm with a meeting the next morning. No problem, it's Vegas. I can sleep when I get home. Staying at Paris and check in at the airport. I get a nice room with a view of the Bellagio fountains and the Paris pool with no $20 trick necessary. One of my traveling companions had never been to Las Vegas and was only there for one night. I ask the check in lady to take care of her for her first time in Vegas. She ends up getting a nice suite on the 30th floor. Great room.

In general, this was my first time staying there and I did like the hotel a lot. Rooms were nice and roomy. However, I didn't really like the vibe in the casino. Maybe because I always get my ass kicked there. No $5 BJ tables on a Monday and a number of 6:5 tables. Of course, they were full. These people are morons. This visit was like my previous visits to the Paris casino. I couldn't get anything going anywhere. Craps, Blackjack, Roulette, it didn't matter. Finally called it a night about 1 am.

Next day, had meetings most of the day until about 2:30. Actually worked in my room till about 4. Decided I wanted to try casino poker for the first time. Since Paris has no room, I asked the concierge where a beginner should go. He recommended Flamingo, so off we went to try it out. After about 5 minutes waiting, we were seated at a 2-4 Hold 'Em table. Once I got used to the protocol of how much to bet and when, we had a great time. The dealers were very helpful as were the majority of the other players. Ended up staying about 4 hours and I can't wait to play again. I did end up losing but from a combination of playing too many hands with too many pocket cards that had potential and didn't pan out. Did see someone at our table get a royal flush. Very cool.

After that, we headed up to Margaritaville for dinner and more drinks. I am a huge Buffett fan and have been to the Orlando Margaritaville a number of times. In the main dining area, it was going to be about a 1 hour wait but they sent us up to the third floor to the bar area up there and we were seated right away. This is outside and faces the strip. We were seated right next to the railing with a great table. They had a guy singing acoustic tunes, mostly Buffett, James Taylor, etc. He was great. His name was Kenny. Margaritas as always were awesome. Food was also very good and somewhat reasonably priced. We had a great server named Jackie. She even sat down and hung out at our table when things were slow. In general, I always have a good time here. Food is good and I love the atmosophere.

After that, significantly lubricated, we headed back to Paris. Played a little more in the casino and once again lost. Finally headed to bed about 1 am with a 7:20am flight the next morning for more meetings in Reno. No gambling there. Flew back to Vegas later that day and flew home to Chicago.

All in all, a trip that was much more fun than I expected as I thought it would be all business. Lost everywhere but no big deal as I wasn't betting a ton. This was a good scouting trip for my group trip in November with 4 other couples. As always, can't wait to get back.

    Nice report Bob!
Glad to see you were able to try Poker. Did the Royal Flush win any side pot from the poker room???

    Neon,

I assume he won. The Flamingo does their best hand pot from 6am to 6 am the next day. Not bad though as the pot from the day before paid $465.
