    My Trip Report

Not really a trip report, but since I have the day off...

Who owns the property south of Mandalay Bay? Can't they build new stuff down there? Is it illegal to move that sign or something?

The World Poker Tour must have a serious self-image problem or inferiority complex if Chris Moneymaker is only known as a 'major tournament winner' and an unknown tournament at the Bellagio is billed as 'the most prestigious poker tournament in the world'.

I think it's time to take a sabbatical from poker when you KNOW you're too good to play with the schmucks at the low-limit tables because of them drawing out on you over and over, so you go to higher limit tables and get beaten down and robbed of your bankroll by schmucks drawing out on you over and over.

Can't they put some monorail track on the west side of the Strip, too? You know, loop it around the whole Strip.

Don't casinos understand that if they put in more tables of normal blackjack at $5 and $10 limits, they'd have a lot more players?

Would making all craps tables 5x odds and $5 minimums seriously dent the bottom line? If so, would having only two of them open at all times cause them to miss their monthly numbers?

Everybody has a gambling 'Line in the Sand'. Mine used to be Continuous Shuffle Machines. Now it is 6:5 Blackjack. And $10 craps minimums.

How is it that only one casino understands the magnificent drawing power of a decent-sized serving of shrimp cocktail for 99-cents?

I don't understand the attraction of standing in line and getting attitude in order to pay for admittance into a place serving overpriced drinks. Perhaps I'm not cool enough to understand.

Some billionaire philanthropist really needs to build a bullet-train connecting Phoenix, Vegas, San Diego, and L.A. Either that or them Star Trek geeks gotta get cracking on a real beaming-machine.

Becky may have been a total buffoon as far as running a casino, but at least she didn't drive off her customers with 6:5 single-deck.

If I were independently wealthy and had nothing to do all day, I'd wander around in front of Harrahs passing out anti-6:5 blackjack flyers.

Downtown needs a good strip club. I said GOOD strip club.

I'd like to immediately stun-gun any timeshare salesperson that approaches me. No questions asked. Imagine the difference we could make if everyone did the same.

Scooter rental on the Strip has got to be about the worst idea ever.

I like how all of the casinos on Fremont Street use the same style of cocktail glasses. That's cooperation.

Celine Dion selling out the arena at Caesars every night is just the first step down the slippery slope of Canadian World Domination.

Frankly, I'm surprised that nobody has stepped up to fill the Gay-Magicians-with-Wild-Animals void yet.

I love the fact that you can't walk ten steps in Vegas without seeing cleavage.

As much as I love Vegas, I'd never go back if I had a sailboat in the Caribbean.

Ya'll have a great and safe 4th of July weekend. I'm off to Phoenix! [IMG]

    Hey Mikey,

Just wondering is you still see yourself moving to Vegas? If so when?
And if you do, what if you were assigned to deal a 6:5 BJ game? What would you do?

    Hey Box..

We'll we kicked around the idea of a Vegas side trip this weekend with the fellers, but we opted out. Derek just purchased the Frat House that we'd been renting for the past several years, and is sinking all of his money into converting it into a 'home' instead of a 'rental'.

Ed W and his wife are spending the week in Cabo and won't be back until Sunday.

Eddie B, my Vegas wingman, really wanted to go, but for a quick trip we'd probably have to fly to make it worth it, but decided it wasn't worth it, being a holiday weekend and all.

Oh yeah..about a month ago, we thought we'd be going, but the more we discussed it, the more we figured it would cost too much. If I went, that'd be at least a grand that I didn't want to spend in addition to all of my Phoenix buffoonery. So no, no Vegas this weekend. :(

    DJ--

Yeah--it's still looking like I'll end up in Vegas. Craps dealers and poker dealers are in more demand than BJ dealers, so hopefully I can avoid it. I guess if they insist that I deal that crappy game, I could make a few 'mistakes' on the payoffs...then they'd pull me off.

Or, I could work somewhere that doesn't offer that game yet...Monte Carlo, Coast Casinos, etc...

    >>Who owns the property south of Mandalay Bay? Can't they build new stuff down there?

Bali Hai golf course is down there. Do Not F with it until I get to play it.... which may be a very long time, as I'm not likely to cough up $250 to play next to the freeway and under the flightpath, regardless of how bitchin' it is.

    >>Don't casinos understand that if they put in more tables of normal blackjack at $5 and $10 limits, they'd have a lot more players?

Always my biggest complaint. I understand the logic, but really, really hate it. I used to be a medium roller.....now I'm a low roller. Inflation has not gone up that much. I'm being priced out of the Vegas gambling market. Thank God for poker.

    >>Some billionaire philanthropist really needs to build a bullet-train connecting Phoenix, Vegas, San Diego, and L.A.

Amen on the bullet train. You know it would pay for itself in a few years. I can see it now.... the bar car, the stripper car, the poker room car....oh yeah, that is free money waiting to be picked up. Can you imagine how many batchelor parties and the like that would generate? You would think the hotels would offer to build it.

    >> I'd like to immediately stun-gun any timeshare salesperson that approaches me. No questions asked. Imagine the difference we could make if everyone did the same.

Like the idea, but don't think you're thinking big enough...I see plenty of people that could use a good "stunnin'"

    >> As much as I love Vegas, I'd never go back if I had a sailboat in the Caribbean.

I'll thank you to keep your Blaspheme off the board sir.

Hey, has anyone heard from Bazootch?! I heard that Idaho was having some amazing storms...I wonder if he's caught up in that.

    Ya'll have a good weekend!

High-speed train to Vegas on track

A high-speed train between Anaheim and Las Vegas is moving closer toward reality. The commission guiding the project gathered public input at Anaheim City Hall on Monday.

The 269-mile route from Anaheim to Las Vegas would take less than 90 minutes on the magnetic levitation, or Maglev, train that can hit top speeds of 310 mph.

The train would also travel through Ontario, Victorville and Barstow.

"Under 90 minutes would be better than the three hours (of driving) now," said Anaheim resident Robyne Betzsold.

An environmental report on the first 40-mile phase of the project - between Las Vegas and Primm, Nev. - will be finished within the next two years.

I am pretty sure that WSOP is a registered trademark and the WPT cannot use the language without (at a bare minimum) acknowledging that fact or paying for the priviledge. Also at the time it was paid out in April, I believe the WPT championship was the highest cash prize ever paid out at a poker tournament. Hence the world's most etc. moniker.

If I was independently wealthly, I'd play as many poker tournaments around the world as I could. I would wear those X-ray glasses that you order out of the comics and as a nod to Mikey...

That high-speed train... when I read that, I though I'd go to Vegas every week, but then I researched the ticket prices. They're estimating $50-100 each way! I can get airfare from OC airport 10 minutes from my house for almost always half that.

I am just happy that there is a place to keep all the cool people away from me, hey if they can make them queue and pay to corral them in fine by me, better than asking me to pay to get away from them, just bitter and missing Vegas nickm

Celine is the first step in our evil plan to turn Nevada into Canada's most southwestern province, and make Las Vegas Canada's new capital city, replacing Ottawa.

We would also rename Mandalay Bay Resort to the James Bay Resort or maybe Georgian Bay Resort.

    Beware!!!!

    Crazy in Canada... [IMG]

    LV Terry,

The queen is on the 20.00 bill which is worth about 15 USD

The rest of the denominations have dead prime ministers on them.

I like the Green Stuff you guys in USA use. its worth about 35% more than our Canadian green backs, which means a three coin, 1.00 machine with max bet in Vegas costs about 4 bucks Canadian.... [IMG]

Oh well, just gotta earn more CDN to buy USD $$

That will eventually happen, but these things just don't get built overnight.

Here's what the monorail folks have to say about it on their Web site:

Are there plans to extend the route?
Yes. We are currently working with the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada to extend the monorail to downtown (Fremont Street). We also plan on extending this system to McCarran Airport as well as extensions on the west side of the Strip. Our vision is to connect a majority of the hotels and convention facilities to the airport and government centers making it easier for both visitors and residents of Southern Nevada to move around in the Resort Corridor of Las Vegas.

That would be really nice to have a big 'circular' monorail route that covered both sides of the Strip, went down to Fremont Street and back, out to the airport, and even made a few stops along Industrial ;)

Of course, by the time they would get it built, the strip would be alot bigger and some of the new hotels wouldn't have monorail service. I can see those guys getting testy.

It really wouldn't surprise me that, many years down the road, the strip would go from Fremont Street WAY past Mandalay Bay.

I've always hoped that someone would start another "strip" in Vegas, but this one perpidicular or parallel to the original.
