    My Trip Report

Here is my trip report. Thanks again for all that I learned from this board.

*Check in at the Luxor stinks on a busy day. We waited an hour and forty-five minutes to check in. Next time we will check our luggage with the bell desk and find something else to do until the line subsides. Our flight was only an hour and twenty minutes.

*It seems like it’s about time that the Luxor renovates their rooms. We stayed in a Jacuzzi suite and overall it was pretty shabby. It was clean and we really enjoyed the Jacuzzi tub, but the room was generally worn out, and in poor repair. My wife commented that the room has no full-length mirror, and there weren’t enough towel racks in the bathroom. Also, the room was kind of dark.

*The Pyramid Café in the Luxor serves decent food, with poor service, at a fairly high price. We ate here twice, because it was convenient.

*The Nile Deli: $10 for a Philly Cheese Steak… and no fries!!! It was okay, but….

*I had good cocktail service while playing slots at the Luxor. The wife doesn’t gamble and she had no problem getting free drinks while simply watching me play.

*The Blue Man Group: one word, FANTASTIC!! It was very original, fun, and a visual feast. Go see it! Not a bad seat in the theater.

*The hype about the Paris breakfast buffet is definitely true. The selection and the quality of food combine to make the price seem cheap. It was a nice walk from the Luxor to Paris, early in the morning, I had time to recover a bit from the previous night’s drinking, and work up an appetite.

*I really liked our room at the Monte Carlo. I will stay there again next time! It was bright, clean, and in good repair. Noise from our neighbors and their plumbing was a bit of an issue for me, but I got over it quickly.

*The Monte Carlo is nice. Not trying too hard, like most of the others. Not elegant, or luxurious, just really classy. I dig the Brew Pub, maybe the best beer in Vegas, and the food isn’t too bad either. Of all the resorts that we visited this one was definitely the least “overrun†by tourists. Everything else was jam-packed and crowded compared to this oasis in the desert.

*Most of this trip’s nightlife consisted of seeing Phish at the Thomas and Mack Center. What can I say, but this is why I came to Vegas, to see my favorite band, and I was not disappointed!!

*I didn’t gamble a lot, but my first ever hand playing blackjack in a casino was a blackjack! Yahoo. I bought in for $20 at a $5 table at the Luxor at about 5 AM. There was only one other person playing at the table. Fun, until he decided to chastise me for hitting on a 14 and busting with the card that would have busted the dealer had I stood. He was seriously pissed off at me, because his bet was more than $100. I let him chew on me for about a second, before I pointed out to him that he was at a $5 table, and since I was only betting $5 a hand he could expect more of my unsavory antics, AND that the $25 table just a few feet away was empty!! Go have your way over there, and don’t worry about what I do, with my $5! I cashed out with $167.50 after buying into my first Blackjack session with $20. I am well aware of basic strategy, I even have a little strategy card to carry around, but I always hit on 14, I hit on 15, hell, I even hit on 16 sometimes, hit me again! Kindly play at another table, if you don’t like it, I came here to have fun, not to play strategy, or try to win money! I am a happy man! Life is good!!

*Go ahead and bitch to me about how I spend my money at the table, it will only add to my enjoyment of the game! However, If you decide to give me some friendly pointers, or share *opinions* in a friendly manner, I’m all ears.

I have a friendly pointer... Next time throw your drink in his face!

I hate it when people start yelling about blackjack strategy. One time a woman was getting on my nerves so bad about how I had "no idea what I was doing" I doubled down on a soft twenty. She literally started screaming and cursing at me so loud that the pit boss told her to leave!! She was betting green I was betting silver and the pit boss didn't even flinch.

MaxVegas, Your comments on blackjack strategy are a universal situation. In a 6 deck shoe, one player not following basic strategy probably does not make a difference. In a single deck game, it would have a far greater effect. You certainly have the right to play your cards however you want. No one should get ugly with you. They should vote with their feet if they don't care to share a table with someone who plays in your fashion. However, you should be ready for more confrontational interaction with fellow players if you hit your 16 against the dealer's break card. In my opinion, if you are just wanting to gamble and not follow basic strategy, play your blackjack on a machine to make sure you don't have a repeat of this incident.

MaxVegas, you can share a table with me anytime. What happens with my money is up to me, and your money is your problem. I play basic, but it's actually kind of fun to watch people who don't as they wrestle with their 13-16's, they get so worked up sometimes.

I agree with your points about the Monte. I've been slow to warm up to it, probably because it doesn't have an in-your-face theme to it, but there's a lot to like about the place, particularly in the casino.

I agree, how you play is solely up to you. I have to know, what was the dealer showing when you hit on your 14?

If I remember right the dealer was showing a 7. The card that busted me was an 8. The dealer had an 8 in the hole, and the next card out of the shoe was a 5, giving her 20. Obviously if I had stayed at 14 the dealer would have dealt herself the 8 for a bust.

As far as I can tell hitting that 14 against a dealer 7 was basic strategy...

Yes that is bs. Some people just don't like to see you pull a card that could have busted the dealer, and I don't get it. The only card I have a hard time hitting against a 7 is 16. Don't ask me why, but I do not like hitting the 16 when the dealer is showing a 7. I know I should, I know it is bs, but I hate it almost as much as I hate hitting a 12. I never win when I hit a 12, I bust just about everytime!!

a LOT more than that, btodd. but aside from Hoya, we don't count'em around here (and she's preparing a thesis, so she's excused). Content is what matters.

    Hey! I resemble that remark!!

I usually only say something about typos when the typos are funny....Like when someone calls me Hoya Hell....See---I think that's funny.

Otherwise, I'm anal about typos because my boss is anal about them.....It's environment, not genetic :D
