Golden Nugget 2/27 - 2/29

My wife and I were actually in Vegas since 2/22 but I was there for some training and they put us up at the Santa Fe Station through Thurs. I will only say that this is a place that I will not return to. Not a bad or dirty place but its out in the middle of nowhere and nothing spectacular. We managed to catch Elton John on 2/22, the day we arrived. What a show! I would highly recomend it.

So, we arrived at the Golden Nugget Fri morning. First time downtown. Quite impressed by the hotel. Definately the crown jewel of downtown. Better even than TI or Luxor which I had stayed at before. We checked out each casino and ended up at Lady Luck. We did pretty good there and my wife ended up getting a T-shirt. Ended up spending a lot of time at Golden Gate. Had a shrimp coctail - very good. Went to bed around 10:30 because we had spa appoinments in the morning.

Next morning, wife gets in shower and has some major plumbing problems from a huge hairball in the drain that I had to remove. I spoke to the manager, who was very apologetic and comped my room for the night. We finally get to the spa and our massages. Absolutely wonderful, the fastest 55 minutes of my life. After the spa we spent the next few hours at the GN slots. I hit a couple of times for a couple hundred bucks and we headed for the buffet.

Buffet was nice, good selection and price. Then its off to the Stardust for Wayne Newton. I had heard a lot of people saying that his voice is shot. I figured he still is a great showman and we should see him before time takes more toll on him. It was obvious as the show went on that the the comments about his voice were true, but all in all he still put on a great show. Then we headed back to the GN where my wife had the luck this time for around $200. We closed the trip with a hot dog and shrimp coctail at Golden Gate. (The hot dog at 1:30 am - BAD mistake).

We liked our first trip downtown and will definately stay at GN again. We are thinking of splitting our trip between the strip and DT next time. I can't wait to go back.

I am tossing the idea of seeing Wyne next time the Mrs. and I go, sounds like I need to just do it! before it's too late...

 

We have made the mistake of having a hot dog in Vegas after midnight. It always sounds like a good idea at the time .

On the bright side, I could taste that hot dog for at least 2 days later. Kind of an unexpected souvenier.

 

Glad you enjoyed your stay at GN (hairball aside ) We liked the massages & spa there too!!! Definitely a nice addition to a Vegas trip. Were they filming in the GN casino while you were there? A few other recent trip reports mentioned it, but I don't know how long that would be going on....

 

Yes they had a special area with about 6 table games roped off with cameras hung from the ceiling everywhere. There were signs all over the Nugget saying that if you went inside you were agreeing to be filmed. The filming never seemed to get in the way at any time. We enjoyed the place very much.
