    My Trip Report

I needed to squeeze in one more trip to the West Coast this year to get enough frequent flyer miles to keep my airline status. I did some calculating and figured I could get the miles and go to Vegas. We departed from Newark on Friday at 5:45 pm and got into Vegas by 8:30. The flight was uneventful but seemed really long. Airfare was cheap and I got a room offer for three free nights at Harrah’s and the Venetian for $79 per night with a $50 coin voucher included in the offer. My mom, dad, my cousin and her friend came along too. (My cousin and her friend met us there) My mom smokes and I have trouble breathing and wont let her smoke in the room so she wanted her own room instead of staying with me so I gave her the free room at Harrah’s. I finally reached Diamond Level this year and thought it would be much easier to get an upgrade but that wasn’t the case. The are really stingy with the upgrades. My mom was disappointed with the room but I told her that she was welcome to stay with me at the Venetian but she said she’d rather smoke. (I inquired a while back about getting a host at Harrah’s and their reply was that you were only entitled to one once you reached Diamond Level so I finally did and I inquired again with VIP services and they told me that reaching Diamond Level didn’t entitle me to a host and that if my play was enough to warrant it, one would contact me when they ran their reports, which didn’t exactly thrill me). After checking in at Harrah’s, we walked over to the Venetian so I could check in. By the time I got there, they didn’t have any regular non-smoking suites available so they assigned me a Rialto Suite, which was a bit bigger than the regular rooms and had two queen size beds. It was really nice. Unfortunately, I had a lovely view of the construction site. They didn’t seem to be working on it at all and there wasn’t any noise, it was just ugly. The splatter from the construction site left this gross film on the windows and you couldn’t even see through them. I just kept the lace curtain drawn so some light could come through and enjoyed the room anyway. I love that place! My cousin and her friend arrived on Saturday and they had a hard time getting a good room rate so they stayed in my room Saturday night.. (Sunday morning they checked in to Treasure Island for a few days)

There were no kids with us so this was basically a gambling trip and we didn’t do any of our usual sight seeing. I started off with $500. I played at the Venetian on Friday night. I cashed in a few times for small amounts - $50 to $100. I went up to my room $120 ahead. Saturday morning I woke up at 4:30 am (I was still on East Coast time). I stayed up in the room until 6:00 am and then felt the itch to gamble some more. I was hungry but didn’t want a huge sit down meal so I grabbed a pastry and a soda at the bakery next to the Grand Lux café. I played for about thee hours and managed to lose the $120 I won plus another $200. At 9:00 I walked over to Harrah’s to see what my parents were doing. I gambled there and lost another $100 and then we grabbed some lunch. I went back to Harrah’s with them and decided to play some deuces wild video poker. The lady playing next to me was also from NJ and lived about 10 minutes from the town I live in so we chatted for a while. I had 35 credits left in the machine and I was dealt the Ace, King, Queen and Jack of Hearts. I closed my eyes and hit the button and up popped the 10 of hearts. A Royal Flush in sequential order - $1,000. I was shocked. A lady that works there happened to see it and told me that if it had been one of those machines that paid a special bonus for sequential order, it would have been $12,000!! Bummer. I played a bit more and then went back to the Venetian. I wanted to take a nap but my room wasn’t clean yet so I called housekeeping and went down to play for a bit. I went up a ½ hour later and it was clean but there was only a 1 hour window until I had to meet my cousin so I decided to soak in the tub until then. I met my cousin and we went back over to Harrah’s. My cousin went to a psychic before she left and the psychic told her she should play roulette and play number 35. She started with $40 and managed to win about $700 in 10 minutes. (By the time I left, she was up about $2,000) She cashed out for about $600 during that session. We went to the buffet at Harrah’s for dinner and then gambled some more. I was exhausted by 9:00 (midnight East Coast time) so I went to bed and they all went out. I had $1,100 in my pocket that night, still up $600. Sunday morning I woke up early again and I didn’t want to wake my cousin and her friend so I went down and gambled some more. I played quite a bit and cashed out for a few small things but I lost over all. We went over to Harrah’s again. My cousin wanted to play some more roulette and I went back to the poker machine I won on. I hit four deuces for $250. We grabbed some lunch and then I went back to the same machine. I think I killed it because I fed it $80 and didn’t get anything better than a straight. I moved to the machine to my left, which was a double bonus poker machine and within five minutes, I hit four aces for $200. We drank Long Island Iced Teas and Mai Tai’s all afternoon. I was on a losing streak at that point. Sometimes when you play poker and you’re drunk you think you hit the button to hold a card and you didn’t. That’s when I knew I needed to take a gambling break at that point so we went to the comedy club that night. (I had enough Harrah’s points for four free show tickets at $20 food comp) It was hysterical! We left there at 9:45 pm and I was really tired. My cousin wanted to drag me out but I had to get up at 5:00 am for my return flight and I just wanted to go to sleep. I passed by the Money Grab Monopoly machine I won on during my last trip and decided to slip in a quick $10. I got it up to 1,000 nickels and then it dropped quickly. All was sudden, I got the cashier bonus and picked the player with seven spins. I got to the spin with the $500 money fists and I didn’t think I would get any of those but I managed to get three of them with two coins in. I cashed out for $200 and while I was waiting to be paid, I stuck a $10 in the machine to my left and played for about ½ hour on that. I kept getting the bonus rounds on it. I got to the timer bonus and got 12 grabs and one of my grabs was the $500 bill and another was a $100 bill. I wanted to cash out for another $200 but I just couldn’t seem to get it up there and I didn’t want to lose what I won. I was about 200 nickels shy so I stuck in a $10 to bring the credits up to 4,000 and hit the button to collect another $200. By that time it was almost midnight and I was exhausted. I went back to the Venetian. I had $12 in cash coming to me from gambling there so I went up to the desk to collect it. I asked them how many points were needed to get a food comp, just out of curiosity because I wouldn’t use it anyway. The lady handed me the voucher for the $12 and told me that they didn’t issue food comps there. She told me that I should cash in my $12 at the main cage and to the right of it was a desk with a host and that I should inquire there. I went over there and the lady was really nice. She told me they didn’t have a reward/point structure and asked me if I was staying there and what my room number was. I told her I was and she said that she would comp me one night. I thanked her but was shocked. ($79 room rate minus one comp night, minus $12 cash minus $50 coin voucher minus $40 my cousin gave me to split the room rate for Saturday night = unbelievable deal) I think I put a total of 80 – 90 points on my Venetian card during the three days and mostly played nickels and quarters there. I didn’t expect that, especially at such a nice place. I came home $800 richer, had a blast and I’m going to start planning another trip for the spring!

Why can't we all have trips like that??? I'd settle for going home with what I went with :D

Just curious....what machine did you win $200 for 4 aces? Was is a dollar machine? I hit 4 aces on a machine at the Nugget, pay for that was under $100. It was my first time playing them, so I'm trying to figure out which ones are the best for my next trip...

I hit the four aces on a double bonus poker quarter machine. It paid 800 quarters. If you get a 2, 3 or 4 with the aces, it pays 2,000 quarters. (I got a 7 with my aces so it paid 800)

Wow, that was a really nice trip! It's always good to hear that someone brought some of the casino's $$$ back home. [IMG]

Maybe I should give your friend's psychic a call before my next trip! :D

    Thanks for the trip report!

While it doesn't always happen, sometimes Venetian video poker is kind to me too; they have a few machines with decent pay tables. I'm glad someone else can say they got winnings there.

    Cheers. [IMG]
