We just got back from 3 days at South Point. Had a great time... a few thoughts. - I really must be getting old, the heart of the strip has really lost my attention. It's too loud, busy, and there are too many obnoxious drunks. - I went to the Sahara for a few hours this trip and loved it, but my visit was accented with some notes of sadness. I really hope this place makes it. They have so many great pictures on the walls of the days when the "who's who" found themselves at the Sahara (ie Elvis, Johnny Carson, the Rat Pack, etc.) There are large and small signs of how this place is trying to save some money. Beverage napkins and matches have no logos on them, only one hotel tower is open, the parking garage is closed for renovation, but there were no signs of construction on a Wednesday afternoon, bathrooms closed down, etc. I actually felt a little guilty winning $$$ there. I have made a decision that my "on strip dollars" which are few these days will now be spent at the old school joints as much as possible. -South Point is a great value!!! -The worst casino I've ever been in has to be the Westin, I don"t think there was one machine in use and every table game was closed. I went in and signed up for a card, I was gonna play my matchplay. The employee at the desk had less personality then anyone I have ever met. She literally said one word to me.... "here" as she handed me my newly printed card. No wonder the place was empty. - I love Red Rock. That place is soo pretty, and love it all around except for the stingy Boarding Pass from Station Casinos. -Rhodes Ranch is a great golf course with some exceptional values. It must be a pretty easy layout because I seem to always score better than average when I play there. -I am bummed with the changes made to the Eastside Cannery's CAN Club. It now takes aa rediculous amount of coin in to earn a point on their FPVP. - I ventured into the Longhorn (for anout a minute and 30 sec.) Wow... what a dive, and I don"t mean that in a good way. I felt like I needed an oxygen tube to breathe, but that might only keep me alive long enough to get robbed my one of their partons in the parking lot. Not my favorite place. -I love Vegas gone for 3 days, ate, golfed and gambled...all for around $150.
sounds like a good trip, I wonder how the temps were for that golf, I've played some where I waited for the frost to melt and remember spending some days sick shortly after. Now I won't play if the temp is under par.
It wasn"t bad, but my tee time was about 10:45. I wore shorts and a light jacket. Temp was maybe 64 or so.
Nice Report!! Thanks... We enjoy the Sahara...it is neat to see the pictures, etc. We give them a shot at some of our money every trip
Rooms at the South Point are quite nice... not luxiourous, but big and comfy. Nice full size mirror, flat screen TV, combo shower/tub with a big showerhead, and decent Bath & Body Works toiletries. Best Part was I never waited more than 15 seconds for elevators.
Sounds like a nice trip. But being somewhat of a foodie, I'm interested in hearing more about the "ate" portion of your trip.
As I write this it is 10 here in Columbus and 22 in Chicago. Are you sure if I called you in Vegas and said we had a 10am tee time and it was 70 degrees out you wouldnt play???
lol @ summer weather in Canada! I've gone golfing in the wee hours of the morning as the sun has risen, and its been good, no frost but dew , and best of all no mosquitos to eat you alive lol South Pointe sounds like a nice place , might have to try an off strip hotel one of these trips .....
Definately ate on the cheap. I ate @ both the Prime Rib and Italian places at South Point... my other dinner was at the food court @ Red Rock. I really liked both those places. Had free lunch @ the buffet one day, a couple of late night specials and one breakfast in the Coronado Cafe.. Let's see...what else, I think that was it. Oh yeah, a couple of 75 cent hot dogs in the sports book. Definately not a foodies delight.
Thanks for the TR! Funny about the getting to old for the Strip to hold your attention. Our first two trips, we couldn't get enough of the Strip. Now that the new has worn off, we have less and less appreciation for it, I guess. I agree with your thoughts on the Sahara. When we were there in March, it was pretty shabby and from what you've said the downhill slide continues. Sad. And thanks for the info on South Point. It's among the considerations for our trip in April. It's hard to pass up deals like the ones I've seen lately at SP. We're generally Downtowners, but we can always be swayed to try something different if the price is right! Three days for 150 bucks? Good on ya! We've told the virgins in our group to budget $75 or $100 per person, per day miniumum, but we're planning a show every day and some serious gluttony while we're there.
I'm thinking pretty heavily about trying out the South Point myself. Especially if I can talk a host into comping my room upfront! If only their rooms had separate showers!
