    My Trip Report

Faithful readers of my previous reports know this can get long...

So for an entire week before flight time, the expert weather forecasters located in Southwest Missouri were screaming that the World as we know it, green, was going to change and become solid white with ice highlights. The usual, hey I'm going to Vegas, was replaced with, shit, my wife's gonna call it off. As Vegas day got closer, the forecasters came on with worse news.

Friday morning, flight day, we woke up to overcast skies with not a flake of snow anywhere! Good deal, head out for the 50 mile drive to the airport with scattered flurries and wet pavement. Get to the airport, and it starts to snow. Who cares, we are here now!

Managed to score < $100 tickets each before bags and taxes, on a full size MD-80 non stop, (Allegiant), so we were pumped, board, push back from the gate on time, and the tug get's stuck on the ice. Now we are halfway out and going no where. The tug pulls us back to the gate, get's a running start and again halfway out. Finally, we get another tug to push the tug and get all the way out, only to see the deicing truck leaving. The captain comes on and says, well, since we got stuck the truck is going to go do another plane, but once it gets back, 10 minutes and we will be gone. Look out the window and see an American Eagle get deiced and leave, another American Eagle land, load, get deiced and leave. The captain comes on and says our truck got stuck, the truck we are seeing is not our truck, but it's coming. So the truck finally gets to us, 1 hour and 15 minutes later, we fly. No, they didn't offer free drinks, and they changed the $1 game to a $20 raffle for cash or free blue man tickets. Thanks, but I'll lose my money the correct way (buying $100 free drinks at the slots).

After a few tirades from the captain about the deicing delay, we land an hour late, and find no cab line at 4 PM on a Friday night. Play cabbie roulette and get a guy who spoke English with some sort of accent, don't really know what it was, though we did ask 3 times. Pull into Caesars Palace, dump the bags at the bellman and stroll over to check in, noticing that it's 125 degrees inside the whole way, and find there is no line in the platinum check in queue and we get immediate service! I knew I gambled all that money for a reason!

I had made the reservations via our host, and looked up our reservations online, to see that we had a Forum Tower reservation. We've never stayed in any tower there besides the Augustus or Palace towers, and I was actually pretty pumped to stay in the Forum, as the elevators dump right into the part of the casino I wanted to be in. So we give the guy our name and he says, you have a "classic" room reserved.

My bad room smell-o-vision went into overdrive and I said we usually stay in the palace or augustus towers, and he says, I'll put you in the Palace. I then push my luck and say, how about one of those rooms with the two baths, and he gives me one of those! Score. So I pull out my wallet, and tip him a twenty. As we are walking away, my wife decides now is the time to remind me that I said the forum rooms were great rooms and how happy she was going to be in them. I reply I don't remember saying that. I didn't win (never do). Of course, she's happy with the two bathrooms, and I was looking forward to playing with the water fountain civilized people call a bidet later on that evening after a few cocktails.

This was a trip of many firsts, and the first one was that my wife decided to unpack and hang everything up before going downstairs. I take this time to turn the air down to 65 and put it on high and kick myself for not bringing a pair of shorts. Must have been that snow storm back in Missouri not letting me think straight.

Ann finally gets unpacked and we both find our lightest clothes to wear, and head down to the Casino. We head over to the forum part of the casino, I sit down at a goldfish machine that I had good luck on last November, and order a drink, Ann finds a super jackpot party and away we go. I should say that I've never seen a casino in LV as dead as this one was on a Friday night!

So I manage to lose $100 as fast as you can say, managed to lose $100, and wander over to find Ann cashing out a ticket for $250. Not bad for a $20 buy in.

We wander over to the Top $ machines, where I hit the bonus fast, and get $40 of it back. Ann loses 40 and we decide to go find my favorite waitress, as she gives good quick repeat service, and I was thirsty. Sit down at some new quick hit progressive and hit for $75, so I'm back to even. Our server comes by, we get hydrated x 2(in the short term), and wander over to the Palace casino (AKA the pole).

Ann always tells me she wishes she could play $'s like I do, but she never can win very much. I never have bothered to tell her that I don't win either, I just figure she knows that and that this is her way of telling me to stop playing the pole.

So I sit down at the pole (5 line 3x4x5x $ machine) and put in a hundred. A server comes by and I place my order, and start playing. The pole wasn't in a giving mood, or even a teasing mood, it just shafted me. So I put in another Hundred, this one goes better, hit one for 50, another for 25 and take a break (server came by).

Ann had wandered off and played something, came back and said, I'm thinking it's time to start thinking about dinner, to which I replied "noodles". I'm all about the Noodles, and we had comps for two dishes. Ann heads up to the room with the menu and tells me to come on up when I'm ready and we will order.

I head back over to the goldfish bank wishing there was a bit larger of a crowd as then it would look like I was walking around people instead of just not walking straight.

Sit down at a goldfish machine on the aisle, put in $100 and watch it go to $50 real fast playing max bet. I push on, pushing the max bet button with one hand, holding onto a constantly refilled seven and seven with the other. The lady next to me ran her's up to $300 and I decided I could too. So I did, while watching her's go down to $100. Guess life really does balance itself! So she get's up, says don't lose your profit like I just did, to which I assure her I won't and continue to play. A few more drinks go by and I decide it's time to cash out at $325.

Stagger by the Forum tower elevators thinking "If I lived there, I'd be home right now" and did the mall walk to the Palace elevator bank. Luckily, we were on the 17th floor, which is the floor that the upper level elevators stop at first, so I caught the express. Get to the room, and Ann has the security lock engaged, so I'm locked out. Knock, no answer. Call the cell phone, no service (hers). uh oh. I think, wonder where a house phone is, say to hell with it and start pounding on the door. Ann comes to the door and let's me in. Good thing to because those adult beverages wanted out.

Ann's in her "I'm done for the night" clothes, so she orders Noodles. I head down to pick up our two free entrees and stop off in $ land. Lose a quick $50, bad pole, and go over to get the food. Little did I know that Ann got extra, but it was oh so good. Can't say enough good about the noodle joint.

Go up, decide a before dinner skin peel in the shower is in order (the water pressure is to die for, or scream for depending on where it hits) and eat.

Stay tuned for day two, where we go hob nob with the drunks at the Pallazzo and get real with the people of the IP.

Leaving from the STL this Friday and they are saying the same thing about the weather. Still there is nothing that could stop my pre-vegas buzz, even if we get a foot of snow. Great report thanks for taking the time.

    Day 2

So after a night of tossing and turning, the mattress was not the tempurpedic I'm used to, I arise around 8 and try to make as little of noise as possible. That lasted for about an hour and then I ordered some coffee figuring that would awaken the dead. It didn't. While waiting for sleeping beauty, I checked out the weather back home and found out that it snowed 7 inches. Great timing.

Ann get's up and starts cleaning up the room, housekeeping loves us, or at least Ann. We have coffee, enjoy the shower built for two, and I head down to the casino, assuming that we would be out the door in 45 minutes or so. I ended up playing a Martha vs the Martians, or somebody vs the Martians. The Martians won, and I left $50 lighter, and without a drink. Wonder up to the front door and play the 3 reel fishing game, don't remember it's name, but I didn't get to go fishing, down another 50, but did manage to score a drink. By this time, an hour has gone by, so I decide to go upstairs to check on the holdup. Ann's almost ready and so we head out to see what changes have been made in the last 3 months. Cross over the bridge, figuring I'm gonna get a hot dog and a beer from Bills and planning on playing awhile there. They still haven't changed to the TR system, so I skipped the dog, and we headed down to the IP, walking along the street since I'm anti Flamingo. I'm of the opinion, if I'm gonna smell tanning oil, I want to see the bodies being tanned, and since I never can get a drink there, I'll just take the porn handouts from one guy and try to give them to the next.

Stroll into the IP and I sit down at the 3 wheel fishing game again. They had moved them from the back wall since the last trip, but I found them anyway. I had cleaned up on the in November, and planned to again. Ann wandered off to get some coffee and a beer, and just as she left, the server came by. I ordered my libation of choice, played awhile and got the bonus. Won $140 on it and the server appeared. She said "you hit, nobody ever wins, you better leave" So I did. We took our drinks and moved on to the Pallazzo. I like to make fun of the IP, but they do make a stiff drink, and the game selection seems to be pretty good. Might have something to do with the fact that was the first place I stayed as an adult (?) in Vegas. Wonder if they have changed the wall colors in the room from :vomit: green.

We've been staying at Caesars for the past few years and Ann is getting bored with the casino. One thing about Harrahs, they don't change out the games to often. So I thought, might as well go give somebody else some decent play and see what we get. Two trips ago, we did that at the Bellagio, and the comps started rolling in. Got shafted by The Hotel at MB, so we decided to try a non MGM property this time.

There is a traffic jam in the carnival court, and it's loud. Now I've seen a lot of concerts, so I'm half deaf, and it was still loud. We finally get into Harrahs and walk straight through to the P.

We find the place and comment at the lack of loud music. I went up to the players club to get replacement cards, got signed up, and then asked about upgrades. I showed them my platinum card from Harrahs, they gave me a Gold card and said I had to have 30000 points in 3 months to keep it. Well, that's not going to happen!

We found something to play (blue/green dragon game for me) and ordered a drink. That drink took a long time to make it, but it was good when it came. We then wandered to the center area by the mexican place and I found a newer gold fish, Ann played Dean Martin.

It must have been my day, I bought in for $100 and the nice older lady sitting next to me started getting really chatty. Now it didn't take me long to figure out that she was blotto, and that she was hitting on me. She kept going on and on about how long it took to get drinks, and she's had way to many, and her husbands back at home, and yada, yada, yada, I went to play Dean Martin. I find Ann, tell her what just happened, and go play a star wars machine. Third or fourth spin, I hit the bonus for $120, so I leave that machine and drag Ann away from Dean. We continue around towards the V where we find 10 security guys, firemen and a guy 5 years younger than me on a stretcher. He didn't appear wasted, so we don't know what was up with that. We clear that area and walk to the V. Ann needs to use the powder room, and I see some sort of game with Penguins I'd never seen before.

I put in 100, hit max bet ($4) and play a couple of spins. All of a sudden Penguins start doing things, and the game get's fun. Then I hit the Ice Ice Baby bonus and run it up to $220. Hey this game is fun! Ann finds me, she puts in her money, and the penguins leave my machine and go to her's she's having a good time, I'm playing and the next thing you know, I'm putting more money in. :grrr:

Ann cashes out up $200 so we then decide to head over to check out the "gold" lounge. What a joke, I'm hoping for a cold beer, all I see are couches and a few people having tea and crumpets. Hey, where's the egg rolls and hot wings?

We had originally planned to go to the M and M store, but when we got outside, Ann changed her mind and we went back to Caesars, where Ann wanted to go up to the room for oh 10 to 15 minutes. Now it's about 6 PM, so I toss her my shades and say I'll see you back down here in a few minutes.

I stop off at the Pole hoping to hit something. Again, the pole was not my friend. I wandered towards the cashier and found some sort of 5 lines $ machine having to do with 7's. It let me play for about 30 minutes before revealing it's affiliation with the Pole. Decide it's time to head up to the front door to find something else to play and grabbed a seat at one of those new multi game machines. Decided to play something called Cats. Those were mean kitties, so I changed to Soaring Eagles, and sat down to watch the show. (I'm speaking of the front door show). The machine let me play for several hours, by this time I had given up on Ann coming back down, and was enjoying the high priced talent walking in the front door. Every time I figured the drink service was done, another showed up, so this was a good spot to be on a Saturday night.

I finally tired of the show and wandered over to the goldfish machines on the other side of the casino. The fish weren't biting there either, so I moved over to light house loot. Hit the splash bonus once and the jackpot party hit once, but I didn't really do to well.

About 10:30, my liver told my brain it was time to go upstairs. I found Ann looking at the room service menu. I tell her I want the wings and go fill up the hot tub. While it is filling, Ann orders wings, quesadias, and one Salad with two dressings. She asked is one salad big enough for two? It is, good, send one up and give me these dressings for it.

So I go hot tubbing, and the food is delivered. Yep, we got two salads and one dressing. Ann calls down, tells the lady what happens, reminds her of the question about the size of the salad and the lady says we will send up the dressing and take the salad back. Now we start to wonder, what are they going to do with the salad they are taking back?

Room service shows up, Ann offers the salad and they looked at us like we were nuts. "You keep, we only throw away."

Side note, the wings were not spicy, the Mexican was bland, and the salads, well they were lettuce. I did like the white carrots that came with the wings, nice touch.

    Up Next - Sunday

Great stuff so far, thanks a bunch. Room service is always a weird thing for me, I really like ordering it but never seem to be impressed by it. At the Palazzo their bfast room service was solid, but I've ordered dinner/late night from the Wynn three times and it was all pretty bland, so I think I'm done doing that! (except the lobster mac n cheese was decent, but thats like 3000 calories heh)

Glad that snow hit you down south and not us in Kansas City. A friend sent me a pic of his deck down at tablerock lake...plenty of the white stuff. Good thing you missed it. Looking forward to more of your report. BTW...what is the "pole"?

    jpw711,

Great report so far as I am jones'in for LV and enjoying your attention to detail in your TR. My Ex used to play the Penguin slot all the time at one of our local Indian casinos and used to win all the time, polar bears and stuff. I never got a grasp of it, but then again I don't play slots. That was her thing and my thing is Craps. That aside, it sounds like you're having a great time. Lots of room service I see which is nice and relaxing sometimes after a long day of gaming!

    Looking forward to day 3.......

That was an interesting report. Do you mind if I ask you WHAT AIRPORT YOU FLEW OUT OF/FROM? The part about the $100 ticket on Allegiant very much grabbed my attention. Since American has completely eliminated its non-stop flights from St. Louis to Vegas, the fares have risen dramatically--some as high as $400 or at times as much as $500.

At that $100. fare, it may well be worth it to drive down to SW Missouri, provided there is free parking at the terminal. We used to do that on Allegiant when they flew out of Belleville Illinois, often getting roundtrip fares under $100, along with them allowing free extended parking at the terminal. Thank you for the helpful info and the report.

Day three to follow, however to answer the questions.

The airport we fly out of is Springfield Missouri. Parking is $10 per day long term, but there is a baymont inn with a shuttle that charges $6/day with a stay. The parking at the airport is very close to the terminal, maybe a 5 minute walk from the long term lot to the terminal. www.flyspringfield.com. I hadn't heard that AA eliminated the non stops, they really screwed STL when they bought TWA. I remember fly out of there on the cheap non stop several times. Standard airlines usually charge between $300 and $400 for an advance reservation out of Springfield with a stop at their hub along the way.

The pole: I call a particular 3x4x5x $ machine the pole because there is a Roman Column (pole) directly to the left of the machine. This creates an open space between the machine and the machines on down the row, a buffer gap between other players, and an easy way to find that machine, as it's the only one of it's type next to a pole. I tell my wife or whoever I'm with, I'll be at the pole and they know where I am.

O.K. Get back to writing!!! Allegiant discontinued Rochester service so we are forced to pay the awful Delta & AA prices. Did score well the last week of Feb from Madison but that's cause no one wants to go then LOL!

Day 3 - After another fitful night of sleep on the non tempur-pedic bed, I hauled myself out of bed around 9:00 AM, Sleeping beauty was still comatose next to me, so I went about making as little noise as possible until I couldn't take it anymore and started the wake up process. After 30 minutes of assorted grunts, go aways, I'm tired, leave me alone, Ann finally rubbed her eyes and got out of bed. After remembering how much I had lost the night before, I decided I'd be a swell guy and go downstairs and get a white chocolate mocha from Payards and save myself 14 extra $'s. I resisted the over priced muffin and stopped off at the Pepsi machine to get a $2.50 16 oz bottle of sugar for the bubbles I knew Ann would be asking for after the Mocha. Ann drank that Mocha the way college men drink beer, and said you should have bought two. By this time, my nudist tendencies had already reappeared and I resisted putting my clothes back on, instead I jumped in the shower, blasted off the 3 top layers of skin, and wandered downstairs hoping that Ann would be coming down "soon"

Sat down at another one of those multi game machines and started playing some sort of Panda game. Those Pandas were in a giving mood and I quickly won $60 and cashed out. Walked over to the forum side and checked out the Goldfish Machines, but other people were feeding them, so I called Ann to get an update. Since I was at the food court, I made sure to ask "what's that mocha flavor again", bought her one, and made the long trek back to the Palace tower. Ann was putting on lotion, so I figured another 20 minutes and we are out of here, told her I'll be by the front door and went back downstairs. Sat down and started playing that eagle machine again, and it took back the $60 those Pandas had so nicely given me. Went around the bank and started playing a Noahs Ark machine, when Ann called and said she was having technical problems and would be down in 10 minutes. Played Noahs Ark a few minutes longer and cashed out of there with a $2 win, thinking I'm ready for that hot dog I never got yesterday.

30 Minutes later, Ann finally shows up. Being smart, I did the "don't ask, don't get the look" routine and we decided to go to the M and M store. Thinking that a cab to NYNY would be the smart, cheaper way as we wouldn't have a longer cab ride across the street, I suggested that route, to which Ann agreed.

Jumped in a cab, the driver was from St Louis so we talked baseball and Sammy Hagar, we got to NYNY in about 3 minutes, love those back roads. Get out, and still remembering the Mandalay Bay fiasco and my attitude of I'm gonna stick to MGM by not gambling there this trip, we walked in. Ann says, Oh, this is NYNY I like to gamble here. I said, I left the MGM cards at home, thinking that would get me off the hook, as I really was wanting that hot dog, and Ann doesn't like to stand in line for the players card.

So after getting the players card, I went in search of a Pinks hot dog. Well, those are at P HO, not NYNY and I can get a nathans at the Sams Club here, with a soda for $2, so there's no way in hell I'm buying one for $7 without the soda. Remembering that Beer is food, I figure whiskey must be too and follow Ann back into NYNY.

We do the casino walk and I see a sausage king place in the food court, stop in there, get a polish/fries/soda for $6 and have it. It was good, not stuffed it and grilled it myself good, but still good.

We wander back into the casino, Ann finds a Texas Tea machine and sticks in $20. Her last comment was, If I can play $4 max bet on pennies yesterday, I can play $2.25 max bet on nickels today. I stick 40 into a carrousel machine, one of those slots with a big spinning drum on the top of it and start losing. Hit the bonus and win 60 cents. What a rip, that was less than my initial bet, so I quit that stealing thing and sit down at a star wars machine. Lose there too, Ann is still playing her Texas Tea machine, so I go in search of a nice lady giving away booze.

Finally find a nice lady giving away booze at one of those penguin machines. This one is only $2 max bet, unlike the one at the P from yesterday, so I start playing. Those little birds went nuts and I played for a couple of drinks worth. That machine finally stole all my money too, so I went back over to find Ann, she's still playing and I see the meter is at $242. She says it's still the same $20, so I wander away again. Go find a goldfish, it lets me play for about 5 minutes and I decide I'm done with the NYNY for this trip. So much for me sticking it to MGM.

side note, I like the NYNY, I've never stayed there, but this is one casino where I have no problem finding the games from 8 years ago, such as Yukon Gold, Jackpot Party before they needed to name it "classic", Cash Crop. And they can occasionally make a strong assed drink. One of these days, I'll take them up on their offer for a room, as I like their food selection.

So I wander around and end up back at Texas Tea. Sit down next to Ann and decide to see why Cleopatra always makes the top video slot list in Strictly Slots magazine. I still don't know why it does, because I lost.

Ann finally decides to cash out after playing for 2 hours on that original twenty. She left there with an additional $305. I guess she was the one who stuck it to MGM, and I'm not complaining.

We walk across the skywalk and head to the M and M store, I take one step in there, bearing in mind that it's 5PM on a Sunday night, and tell her, I'll be outside, remember it's cold out there. The place was packed, and it wasn't packed with kids. I'm the type that does my Christmas shopping on the internet, and I didn't want to relieve the day after thanksgiving today.

I'm finally turning blue, so I go inside to find Ann just in time for her to tell me she left her credit card in the room. I'm smart enough to not remind her of that $305 cash win, whip out my card and spend $320 on M and M stuff.

Decide to walk back over to NYNY to catch a cab back, since the cab coming from there was only $8. Our cabbie was Lenny who grew up in Venice Beach, and who spoke exactly like Ann's father who passed away last year. I mean exactly like him. So we are in the right lane getting ready to turn right to head back to CP when Ann yells out, hey there's an In and Out sign, so we discuss going there and make a left turn from the right lane, go all the way back around NYNY and get to see a lady who had chosen to jaywalk at the wrong time. Of course, the ambulance, police, and fire were all there and she was headed to the hospital.

So we head over to In and Out discussing the fact that men are supposed to look at Bikini's on the beach or they wouldn't be out there, that In and Out is the holy grail of hamburgers (per Lenny) and notice that the inside is packed, and there are 13 in line for the drive thru. Oh well, I've done that before, and while their burgers are goodalicious, they aren't Whataburger, so we continue on to Caesars. We start talking Mexican food, and of course, Mexican food opinions are just like assholes, everybody has one. We get to Caesars, with only another $8 added to the fare and go inside thinking we will go to Ricardos later.

We head up to the room to drop off the M and M stuff and Ann says I'm gonna start packing. That's my cue to go back to the casino, which I do. Deciding that I've given the pole plenty of chances to kiss and make up, I head back to the front door, and sit down at the soaring eagle (or what ever that eagle game is called), get an adult beverage and play.

Lose $50 on it and cruise over to the goldfish, those fish were not nice, so I go to Fireball. I didn't stay there to long, went to Millionaire 7's. Played there for a few minutes, scored one more drink and went back to goldfish. Never could do any good there, so I called Ann, who was still packing and said bring something to eat.

When in Rome, get the Nachos from the food court. This bowl was massive, the pork was good, and was only $12. Took it upstairs and watched Ann pack, and pack, and pack. This is the first time Ann has ever packed the night before, but she finished it. Set the alarm for 3:30 AM, called room service and said send coffee at 3:45 am and went to bed, another trip in the books.

So the alarm goes off at 3:30 am, the coffee shows up at 3:45 am, we leave at 4:45 am for the airport and go to the skycap line. It's 4 miles long in front of Allegiant. I tell Ann to go talk to the one next to it, as skycap used to be a skycap. Not anymore. So we go inside as the line looks short.

Allegiant has two lines, one for carry on's only, and one for checked. We are checking one bag so we go up, no waiting and check in. The bag is 8 pounds over, how could that happen as we were 5 pounds under coming out. Yep, it was all that M and M stuff. So we opened the bag, put some on the scale and got it down 6 pounds, which was close enough.

Security had a line, but it moved fast. Pushed back on time (6:30), got in on time and was sitting on my couch by noon, central time reading the current comped airfare/room offer from Springfield to the Beau Rivage in Biloxi. Can't beat that.

    Thoughts:

While I really enjoy staying at Caesars, they need to update their room service menu. It never changes. It's nice that they keep the games in the same place, but some variety/changes would be nice, it's been the same for the last three years. Service was good, never had to wait for a drink, everybody was friendly. The only interaction I had with my host was the initial welcome phone call, I never heard the phone ring when he called and I was in the room at the time. I wonder if they set it up that way?

I was happy that it was easy to upgrade the room, but one of these days I wouldn't mind staying in one of the older towers.

Might have to give MGM another try, probably at NYNY if I can get an upgrade. I've got white color room tastes with blue color food tastes. I refuse to dress up to go buy an overpriced steak and it seems that's the only kind of restaurants that the top tier properties have. It becomes a hassle looking for good eats every night. I'm not looking for Mcdonalds, but I'd like to see Vegas go back to the the coffee shop style they had in the 80's.

However, if I get an offer from the Pallazzo, I'll deal with the food situation.

Funny how the good offers always come in the mail 3 days after you book your flights or are in Las Vegas. I'd jump on that Biloxi trip in a second, but I've been told it's too soon.

Hope you have enjoyed reading this report, till next time!

Awesome TR!!! Thank you for writing it. I agree about the trend of restaurants. I wish they would go back to the coffee shops as well.
