    My Trip Report

The title says it all. Having had a good time and profitable trip the end of November, Ms Gecko and I were back in Vegas Dec. 15-20. The trip started off great with an hour in Delta's Sky Club followed by first class seating on the way out. Even the meal and movie were decent. That was the last of the good stuff.

In a nutshell, the dreaded flu or whatever attacked me about the time we landed. Starting with a mild sore throat and gradually escalating to the typical aches, pains, and stopped up head, it only got worse each day.

How much I can blame my illness on the worst losing spell I've ever had is unclear, but I suspect it clouded my judgment more than a little. It certainly didn't make for fun times. I played only BJ, not wanting to stand at the craps table. You know, about the only thing worse than feeling poorly is losing at the same time and vice versa. We did tour Aria, though I was hardly in the mood to appreciate it, followed by dinner at Ellis Island, which was equally difficult to appreciate. It was a real shame to down only a single beer when we had enough free drink coupons to float a small navy.

By the time I got back to McCarran on Sunday, I was essentially reduced to the walking wounded. Naturally, we were offered to be bumped for a $400 voucher apiece, room for the night, and a flight the next morning. That's a deal I normally would have jumped at; in fact, we had discussed possibly extending the trip anyway right before we left home. However, at that point I didn't think I'd be able to make it out of the airport under my own power and we reluctantly declined.

I'm finally beginning to feel decent a week later, but have pretty much scrapped any plans for January and February. Maybe a St. Patrick's Day trip will work out. Yeah, I really hate posting such a miserable TR and apologize, but future ones will have to go uphill from here. Just what in the hell are you supposed to do when this crap happens?

sorry about your ruined trip, that sounds like a real bummer turtleman....it could have been worse, at least you didn't have to drive home. I had that flu on the way driving to vegas in march and about died driving the denver to vegas leg alone. then slept thru my entire first stay at Encore....NOT an enjoyable way to experience vegas!

here's to hoping you feel better and get some good luck on your next trip!

How about NOT playing BJ - can you imagine all the flu germs you passed on by handling the cards - jeez......You should be apologizing to all the dealers and people who were at your BJ tables...

Wow that's a little harsh. Maybe he kept hand sanitizer with him? Maybe he wasn't playing single/double deck and wasnt' even touching the cards. Maybe we shouldn't be so quick to judge...

Sorry you got sick out there...I know that's rough. Hunny and I were there in April of 2006 and she began having a huge toothache and started taking Tylenols to the point that the mere quantity she took made her sick to her stomach and had to spend a lot of quality time with her new friend "john". Turns out what she had was an infection, which we learned after visiting a dentist on Maryland Pkwy. He gave her some antibiotics and that took care of things relatively quickly. Over the course of 5 days, she actually felt herself only on the first and last days.

The exact same thing happened to me several years ago. I woke up feeling awesome and excited as we rushed off to the airport. As soon as I landed and made it to the luggage area I was horrible. I may have left the hotel room 3 -5 times over that entire trip. Had strep throat and the flu and took me weeks to get better. Man, that mad for a horrible trip. It was really weird how quick it came on. By the time we reached the hotel dt I could barely walk. Well, I hope you continue to get better and will be able to make it back soon.

There are few things worse than being sick in Vegas. I've had my share of trips that turned on me due to health stuff. It's tragic. The only cure is to plan another trip. :)

And re: touching cards at blackjack - If you think flu germs are the worst thing on the casino cards, you're mistaken. People are disgusting whether they are sick or not.

Wow, this makes my 24 hour stomach bug during my trip pale in comparison to your illness. You have my sympathy. Here's to better health on future trips!

I hear you and I feel your pain!
The compensation of being sick in Vegas to me was...I could actually lay in bed without guilt. I knew it was over for a "good" trip so I milked that bed and room service for what it was worth.
    I kept thinking that I glad I wasn't home.

Oh and about the germ thing. Craziest thing I've ever seen in Vegas was one of the drink ladies coming into the restroom, going into the stall and setting her tray on the floor while going potty! :ssst: And she didn't wash her hands when she left.
I'm guessing your sick germs are way down on the list somewhere when taking into account the REALLY nasty germs lurking in Vegas Town.

I look forward to your upcoming Best Trip Ever! report :peace:

Sorry to hear about your misfortune I was really sick for the final two days of one trip I swear the poor neighbors must have heard me snoring with little sleep I got anyway but I toughed it out and just slept for almost week when I got home thank goodness for extra days booked off and I hope I never get sick in Vegas again. I now pack lots of local Canadian bottled water which is much better and everything in the bathroom cabinet as well as a couple bottles of Pidialite for the morning after those wild Vegas nights.

That is miserable being sick for your whole Vegas trip. The only good side of this is that you will appreciate all your healthy trips more now.

Have only gone through this once. Being Canadian, I didn't want to go through the hoops of contacting my travel insurance company. Turns out I needed heavy duty meds when I got home.

    That totally sucks.

If it ever happens to me, I plan to play Keno in my room and watch it on the TV.

That's about the lowest-impact gambling I can think of.

Sorry to hear that Turtle but as you said, it's only uphill from there!

That happened to my wife on our trip last March and she was miserable...feeling and gambling. I think being sick puts a definite negative karma on your gaming...:rolleyes2: The saving grace for us was I was winning unconciously. I had hit 2 RF's (one a progressive $1) and numerous 4OAK's on DDB and then sat down next to her to keep her company on our last few hours in Vegas and slipped a hundy in a TDB 50cent game and was dealt 4 Aces w/ the kicker on the 3rd hand:beer:

    Here's to a winning spring 2010 trip:beer:!

One of the larger hotels downtown...but not the Golden Nugget. Not really sure of the name as I shot into the nearest hotel to go the the bathroom.
I'm sure I could located it on my next visit as that image is seared into my brain.
