    My Trip Report

    Nov 17th to 24th 2009

    (Pics at end of report)

    Tuesday, 17th

We were up at 3 AM to get ready and to the airport for a 6:05 flight. Midwest recently teamed up with Frontier and that's who we flew with there and back. It was an on time departure that landed about 30 minutes ahead of schedule. Comfortable leather seats 3 X 3 on each side of the aisle. What helped too is there was no one in the middle seat there AND back! Yay! Frontier also offers TV and movies for a charge of $8. All done with CC or debit card. No cash accepted for drinks or food either. We took the tram and got our luggage with very little wait. Stepped out to get a taxi and we were #1 in line. Off we go to Palazzo for the next 3 nights. Our offer was 2 to 4 select nights, $25 slot credit and a pre fixe dinner at Lagassi Stadium sports bar restaurant. Alcohol and beverages not included.

Our room was not ready yet but they check us in and give us keys. They will call when room is assigned and the keys will be activated for that room. I picked up the voice mail about 2 PM I think. Room 9810 overlooking the pool, Trump and part of Fashion Show Mall and a peek at TI too. We get a king and their standard comfortable suite.

While waiting for our room we played around in the casino and ate at the Grand Lux Cafe. We shared a Max(?) cheeseburger. It had ribs and bacon and I think mushrooms. It was an Angus beef and was super good tasting. Definately order to share. Almost anything there should be ordered to share I think.

Our friends who live next door and also lived on our same block while in our old neighborhood are in town this week too. We have been BFFs for about 30 years now. We have plans to go out to Red Rock Canyon and also the casino the next day. I take a call from D to meet at Paris at 10:30 Wednesday. That's where they rented the car from.

Later that evening about 8 PM we decide to go to the Lagassi and use the promo that came on our offer. I must say the food was excellant and also the service. Very friendly staff there. We had a choice of one item to share from a list of several for the appy. We chose the batter fried cheesy balls with the risotto sauce. I think it was a risotto. Sorry. I can't remember the fancy names for the dishes. LOL. Then we each had a choice for an entre from 3 or 5 items. I chose the 1/2 chicken baked with roasted potaoes and hubby had the fish and chips. My chicken was delicious and very moist. Of course it was too much food to finish. Then a choice for dessert. Only one item for dessert to share. I thought that was hokey. But practicle. We ordered the cheesecake. I was so full. I would not ordinarily order a dessert but because it was included I would not pass up having a few bites. As full as I was, I could not stop nibbling at it. It was that good! I kept prodding hubby to help me with it but he didn't do too much damage with it to help me out.

After we ate, we walked around and probably played a little bit more. But I think we were up to our room and in bed by about 11PM. I took a hot tub soak and unwound before I hit the pillow for the night.

    Wednesday, 18th

We get up at 7:30 this morning. Today we are meeting D and D at Paris by the hotel registration. There is an Avis rental booth at the near end of the lobby. We are to get there by 10:30. We walk to Paris. I only have to stop once to rest. I think it was in front of Flamingo I sat just a minute as my hip was really aching. It was enough til we got to Paris when I sat another minute before wandering around inside. We got a 4 door red Kia. We two girls sat in the back and gave the guys the front. The most trouble we had finding our way around all day was getting out of the parking garage! LOL.

We get out to the Red Rock Canyon and it's $5 per car to go through. I think it's about 15 miles with numerous places to park and get out and walk around. There were people way off on the trails and people rock wall climbing too. Ahhh......no thanks for me. LOL. I was happy I made it walking to Paris this morning! Nicely paved road there. We saw bikers and joggers too. There was a huge area where they had had a fire over about 1600 acres in September 2006. They had it fenced off and we could see protective plant cones being placed here and there. They have quite a reforestation project going on there. It is so beautiful and relaxing. It's a nice diversion from the hustle and bustle of the Strip. And it's not an all day activity either being a fairly close drive to and from the Las Vegas strip.

After we went through the scenic area we stopped at Red Rock casino. All 4 of us signed up for a player's card hoping to get a nice promo on the buffet or slot play. We each got $3 slot play and 10% off our meal. There was a random chance the slot play could range between $3 and $500. For the 9 or 10 dollars the lunch buffet cost it was darn good. A nice variety of items and pretty tasty. I would eat there again. We ate first then played around the casino about 90 minutes or 2 hours maybe. We met up and left heading to Downtown Las Vegas.

DT was pretty busy for a Wednesday night. We caught a few canopy shows. We all four walked to MSS and checked out the Berlin Wall in the men's room. Later we met up at the Golden Nugget to head back onto the Strip. D and D dropped us off at Palazzo and they headed home to Bally's.

Hubby and I played around in the Palazzo and Venetion casinos until about 2 AM. I got a decaf coffee and a muffin to take back to the room. I took a hot tub soak and got in bed. I was awake awhile with a bad leg cramp that just did not want to go away. Finally I got back to sleep and got up about 10AM. The drapes there are so good to keep light out. It felt like it was still the middle of the night when I woke up. We got ready and out of the room about 11:45.

    Thursday, 19th

We walked over to the Wynn. In the past I have complained about the lousy cocktail service there. This time it was excellant. I had a few strawberry margies. Hubby had at least 3 beers and we were both asked numerous times besides that by the CWs. We stayed and played longer than we normally do there too. :) I think we walked backed to Palazzo about 4 PM.

We ate again at the Grand Lux. The one at Palazzo is less busy. I think it is smaller too. I like this spot better than the the one in Venetion. We decided to share a fresh greens salad and a pizza. Both were really good. Our waiter was David from North Carolina. What a sweet man. And he was an excellant server too. We tipped him extra good. We played a bit after we ate but still on a rotten losing streak. Our budget for gambling only goes so far. So up to our room at around 5:30 PM. Yes it was our last night at the Palazzo. A really nice room to enjoy. There are other things to do in Vegas besides gamble after all! LOL. And tonight is SURVIVOR night!

    Friday, 20th

We awake and get our coffee. I should say hubby gets our coffee. He went down for coffee all week. A few times I think we got ready at the same time and waited to get our first of the morning coffee downstairs. We shower and pack up to move to Planet Hollywood for 4 nights. I call on the phone. No charges. We are checked out over the phone. Leave about 10:30 and head for the cab. I had 2 cards to mail so I had to make a quick stop at the desk anyways. I should have put them in the mail as soon as we arrived on Tueday but I completely forgot. Out of site out of mind for me.

We arrive at PH around 11 AM. Check our bags with Bell and head up to the Mezz. Our room won't be ready for a few hours if we want to see the strip. I really don't care as long as we get the little larger window with the "window seat" ledge. I could look at the mountains or freeway traffic and be happy. As long as I don't feel hemmed in. PH windows have a nice little air vent you can open and feel the fresh air too. As long as it's not moth season. No open vents April to July I think is the moth invasion season.

We get room 3435. Or was it 3425? It has the double closet and double set of drawers and the window seat. We are directly above the last time I think by a few floors. It's the same view out the window and looks like the same location. If I sit way to the left I can see about 1/2 the Bellagio pool too. :)

No fun gambling as all I do is lose my dollars. No play action at all. Very frustrating to say the least. We go to eat at Spice Market buffet about 5:30 PM. It was very good as usual and tonight they have the Mexican food station so I get my guac and chips. We head up to the room at around 7:30. We are tired and broke for the day. First we stop at the ABC store out in the mall and buy two 3 liter bottles of water. They were $2.59 a piece. We ended up barely using any from the 2nd bottle but it was still the best deal of the week. I drank water as much and as often as I wanted while in the room. It made a huge difference keeping extra hydrated with that arid harsh climate in Vegas. I took another hot tub soak before settling in for the night. Another tip. When I fill the tub I leave the water in all night. I drain it before we leave the room for the day. I don't really know how much humidity it adds but I figure it can't hurt. LOL

    Saturday, 21st

I did not sleep too good last night. I was off and on waking up through the night. Finally I get up at about 6:15. We have the first room from the elevators and it sounds like a roller coaster ride going all the time. First time I ever remember it. I guess a few more doors away would have been better. I got used to it after the first night though. Better than noisy people out in the hallway.

Hubby got up about 7:30. I was already showered and dressed. I read the paper (complimentary outside our door each morning) while he showered. This morning we go down together for coffee. We get our coffee at Illy's just into the mall right ouside the casino floor by the south elevators. Better coffee. No long lines. Pricing compares to the Starbucks right off the casino floor at PH.

We played around with some slot machines about an hour. Then we took off walking down to MGM. I like to see the lions. BTW...I don't think they start letting them in to the viewing area until 11 AM. We got there earlier so of course we checked around the casino. No luck here either. We go by the glass enclosure again and a large male lion is out chewing on a rawhide bone.

We decide to cross over and visit NYNY. Here I had a bit of luck playing a game called Running River. New to me. Only time or place I noticed this game. After a little while we leave to walk up the strip to Bellagio. Side note: I don't think there was any cocktail service to speak of at MGM or NYNY. I am getting hungry but not starving. Hubby is not hungry yet. So we stop in the CVS and I get a package of 2 cookies and a small bag of cashews. He eats part of one cookie and we share a bottle of water too. The cashews go into the purse and come in handy later that night.

We walk past all the City Center construction. They have high walls of particle board so can't see too much. It's still a pretty big mess but there is landscaping and paved walks on the other side of the walls.

We consider going into Monte Carlo. It's been maybe 3 years since we have. We decide to keep walking. We walk around the Bellagio casino seeing if any changes since April. Not really. We go into the conservatory and walk through. Hubby reminds me that I want to see the chocolate fountain. So I ask someone at an info desk and he points us right to it. I get some pics of the conservatory and the chocolate fountain.

Here at the machines I get my frozen strawberry margharita. Very nicely served in a larger glass. :) Hubby has been drinking Coronas all week after his morning Bloody Marys. I like a few tomato juices with olives in the morning. That's enough breakfast for me in Vegas most days. Our days in Vegas usually get rolling about 11 or 12. Too late for most breakfast menus. I had a few Kahlua and creams a few mornings too. Gotta love Vegas! Cocktail service at Planet Hollywood was spot on 95% of the time. No complaints here.

We leave Bellagio and walk back to PH around 2 PM. We are thinking about having the Paris buffet but neither of us is really hungry yet. Finally at about 8 PM we decide we really just want a sandwich. So we hit the Earl's Sandwich place at PH. It's inside the casino but just at the mall entrance. I think it's the north elevators side but not sure. Hubby and I each get the Cannonballs (meatballs with mozzerella and marinara). It was just the right amount for my appetite along with a fresh fruit cup and a beverage.

After our Earl's we play around PH casino. We walk outside and Strip watch. I love that spot. Later, hubby and I sit together at a Desert Spirit slot machine. His dollars. But we play it together. He is holding his own with the gambling budget way better that me this trip. We play that together for about 2 hours. It is actually very relaxing and we are having a lot of fun playing the same machine. We are making silly jokes and trying to top each other with each spin. I am getting down right crabby about losing my $$$ all week. But the last 2 hours has helped my bitchy mood. I have $100 still to play with tonight. I'm not anxious to put it in any slots just yet to see it get gobbled up.

Finally I go to a 2 coin dollar Triple Diamonds machine. I get the hundred up to $180. :) I have ordered a rum and coke. While waiting for the damn drink the $180 goes down to $100. I get the drink and go to another dollar 2 coin machine. It is soon down to $80. I am pissed. So I take the $80 and put it in a Zeus II penney machine. I play 80 cents/$1.20/$1.60 a spin. I am playing at 80 cents and get the bonus. FIGURES! During the 10 free spins I rack it up to $168. WooHoo! I get this freaking Zeus up to $305 at one point. Finally at $200 I cash out.

I played with a few more machines that I hadn't played before. One was called CATS and the other Penquin Treasure. They were both fun and kept me entertained a while more. Earlier I also found a Tiki Torch that played nicely with me. Probably the best time I ever had with my Tiki guys. :) It's my all time favorite slot. Can you see the mood swing here? I think hubby and I finally headed up to the room about 2 AM. The cashews in my purse made for a perfect bedtime snack to share as we had eaten Earl's sandwich about 5 hours earlier. I didn't lose on those last few machines. I think I cashed out around even for my "buy-ins".

It was a much happier end to my day. And I slept much better this night.

    Sunday, 22nd

I slept soundly until about 9:30 AM. I awoke to hubby entering the room with 2 hot coffees from Illy's. We read the paper and looked out the window at all the strip goings on. We get ready and out of the room at ???. (No note here) Probably around 11 AM I'd guess.

Today we are walking over to IP to see the Elvis exhibit. It is located on the 3rd level up and is $10 per person. It was okay. A lot of neat artifacts and Johnny Velvet was there in person. He was hawking his book which looked very nice. A larger hardcover for $49. And he will autograph it for you too. Honestly $5 would be more in line for the presentation they have there. SO if you can get 1/2 priced and would like to see that kind of exhibit go for it. I was able to reach in and touch Elvis's red velvet bedspread. :) I was quick about it because I was afraid I'd get called out on it. There was no DO NOT TOUCH sign. I believe it is a limited time engagement also.

After we finish at the IP we walk over to Paris to have the buffett. We did not play at IP during our Elvis trek. And Big Elvis plays Monday thru Friday so I didn't get to see him this trip either. We never put a dollar into a machine at Paris this trip either. The buffet was good. Not spectacular. We like Spice Market better. But we used Total Reward credts for our meal. So that was cool.

Tonight we have tix to see PeepShow. 3rd row back and close to the center stage that juts out next to the audience. Maybe only 2 girls in the show that paid good money for their enhanced mammory glands. Most of them were fairly small to average size breasted and real looking. LOL. It's a soft strip tease, burlesque type show. There's some comedy and some acrobatic tricks too.

After we ate at Paris we played a little slots in PH casino. Then we went up to our room to change and refresh for the 9 PM show. The show started almost 20 minutes to a half hour late. We also played after the show at PH casino. I went to my Tiki Torch and cashed out $112 with a $40 buy-in. It must have been a $40 TITO I started with. I played maybe a few hours. Then I went to a Zeus II and lost $25... then $5 more on a Indiana Jones machine.

I think we probably spent some time outside people/strip watching in between playing slots. We headed up to our room at some point. No note here as to what time. I'd guess maybe 2 or 3 AM.

NOTE: I played WOF quarter slots a few times this week with no luck. On Wednesday I played one at Red Rock Casino in honor of a friend's birthday. WOF is her fav slot game to play. I think I held up pretty good on that one and cashed out close to even.

I have noted that I only lost $20 all day Sunday. WooHoo!

    Monday, 23rd

We woke at 10:30 AM. Hubby goes for coffee again this morning. We are out the door about 12:30. We play in the PH casino until about 3 PM. We decide to walk next door to Paris and catch the Rio shuttle. We get to Rio and never go inside. Our plan is to walk over to Gold Coast. Our cards are still active with points. That surprizes me. I though it was longer than the 18 months you have to play within not to lose your points. I find a penney Tiki Torch and this one likes me too! But I decide not to push my luck and cash out ahead. I play another machine and soon lose $20. After a while we decide to head back and catch the shuttle back to Paris. But it's dark out now! I don't want to walk around that parking structure in the dark. Too many people in Vegas these days doing poorly. It's desperate times there and I think the walk is too desolate for nighttime. Hubby doesn't agree but I push the point. I ask a teller if the Coast shuttle still goes to Bills. Yes it does! I had read that they stopped Bills drop offs and pick ups. So we go out and get on a Coast shuttle right away. It goes first to Orleans then over to the Strip. It's not a bad walk from Bill's and I felt much safer.

Big Elvis plays on Mondays from 1:15 to 5:15. Or there abouts. We get off the shuttle around 5:20 I think. Too late to catch his act. :( Maybe next trip.

We are back at PH and play until about 7:30. We stand around outside too. We went for the Spice Market buffet. Tonight there is no Mexican station. :( The prime rib was very good both times we ate there this trip. The battered fish was great too. Most anything there is great. I think so anyways. After eating we played in PH casino until about 11PM. Then up to our room for the night.

We also had $200 in free slot play. We ran that through a 2 coin dollar machine and cashed it out at $234. We had to play it all through in one machine of our choice. And we cashed out as soon as the 200 credits went through. All in all this was a very losing week for both of us. We usually come home with a nice amount left in our pockets to put toward out next trip. This time a whole $200 is going in that kitty. LOL. I also keep a few bucks back to play at the airport. I lost $40 there this trip. I always have won a little something there. At least I came out $2 ahead last trip . LOL.

    Tuesday, 24th

I have the alarm set for 9:30. We always get a late check-out. But I like to call the morning of or the night before just to make sure. She tells me we can have til 4PM. GREAT! Our flight is at 6:05 PM. We get up and have coffee. Get packed and organized and out of the room. We stroll around the mall. I go into Victoria Secrets and get a gift card as a thank you for our host. We go up to the mezz and she is in her office. So she comes out and we talk a bit and say our goodbyes. A really nice lady. She has always treated us very well. We are penney players mostly so by no means big spenders. She had comped our entire stay. Helps the empty pockets feel a little less empty.

Our flight is on time, uneventful and lands early in Milwaukee. It is raining when we get home and not too cold. The humidity feels great. I wait til the next morning and get everything unpacked and put away. I spend most of that day doing laundry. LOL This is a fitting end to my losing week. But I'm not complaining! :) I LOVE VEGAS!!!

Sounds like an activity-filled fun trip! I had the same view of City Center a few days later (3617). I think the clerk would have given me a fountain view room for free if I had wanted to wait, but that room was ready when I arrived.

I actually hiked Red Rock this trip for the first time. Did the Keystone Thrust hike, which is at one of the higher points in the park. Climbed a cliff near the trail and had a spectacular view of the Las Vegas valley and the Strip. (BTW, one of my friends has a national park pass, and there's no entry fee with that pass.)

Excellent trip report! We were at Red Rock (Park and Casino) on the same beautiful day!

Haven't stayed at PHo since they took over the Aladdin but I'll have to consider - especially if they join the Total Rewards comp system. I really enjoyed my room w/ Hot Tub during my Aladdin stay and I hear the rooms have been remodeled.

Really small world! You weren't one of 2 dark haired ladies ( one wearing almost spiked leather dress boots) who had the driver pull over in the middle of the road just in front of us to get out of the car and walk into the dessert a ways. Were you? ( Sorry for the run on sentence. LOL) And then the gals are trying to wave us past them. Like doh. Did they think we were going to drive off the pavement to go around them? It was funny. They were dressed uo pretty snazzy too. :)

What days were you at PH? We were there Fri the 20th to Thurs the 24th. You climbed a cliff? On which day at Red Rock? I took a pic of two wall rock climbers. Very distant. They looked like little ants from my view. LOL. You must be pretty young and hale.

I was at PH Tue and Wed nights.

No, that wasn't me actually climbing the rock face! I hiked up the side of the cliff. Unfortunately, I'm neither pretty nor young. :) Might be a little hale since I've been doing a lot of hiking recently.

    great report and pics!

I think I'll add the Paris buffet to my agenda. You had a really nice view into City Center. Sounds like they are still tightening up the slots in Vegas.

BeeeJay, have you tried the Spice Market buffet? That is our favorite. Yes they did tighten those slots. Some even squeaked at me!

if that is the one in PH, I tried had one comped on a stay once and tried it, not very good, but it was an off time of day. PH is growing on me in general, so maybe I need to give that buffet another shot.

Unfortunately, we did not encounter the snazzy dressed ladies or we would have snapped photos.

Excellent City Center Photos. My angle from Monte Carlo was also good. Didn't stop in the Bellagio though I wish I would have.

LOL I have done that too. And once I sat down to what I thought was on 1cent. Someone had switched the denom to 10cents. I had been playing that bank of machines for a few days and did not realize one could switch the denom on them. I put my $20 in playing 40 lines one credit. It took me until I ran out of the $20 to realize I was playing $4 a spin! Damn it! It paid me NOTHING!

Hi! My brother and his wife retired and now live in Lake Tomahawk. Your neck o' the woods. Beautiful area!

It was a marketing offer. We got a coupon sheet at check in. We took the free slot play coupon to the A-List rewards desk and they entered the $200 onto the players card. You will need to set up a 4 digit pin # to enter at the machine. I believe you could choose promotional chip(s) for the tables instead if you wanted to. Do you now have a play/stay history with PH? If you have a card acct or not you could always call their marketing department and ask to be put on their mailing list.
