    My Trip Report

I'm new to this board, which is a great board by the way. This is my fourth time to vegas this year, had good luck the last three times, but this last time was great. arrived on midnight on monday and headed to MGM Grand were i usually stay, had my room comped, headed to my room dropped off the luggage and headed down to the BJ tables (my wife went to sleep she was tired), met with a friend of mine that had arrived in the morning and was at the tables. We sat at a 50 dlls min table and started playing and wining a little bit, that is when we decided to move up to the 100 minimum and decided to place equal bets and at the end we would spit the winnings (if any) well after about four hours we were betting between 500 to 1000 per hand. We were kicking a## at the table.

At about 7 am we were about 36,000 up but we could not stop but couldn't go any longer and made the mistake of betting 5,ooo on one bet which I lost and that was our qeu to leave. We took 15,500 each on that first night. Got to the room and i had to wake up my wife to let her know, obviously she got excited, after that i could not sleep, went back down and started talking to the pit boss. He said "i'll give you a piece of advise, today go to a show and have an expensive dinner and enjoy because tonight you will be giving it all back again". Which got me thinking and decided to get the next flight back home. Some people told me that i should have stayed and enjoyed the winnings but i just could not trust me to stay there because i know would end up spending some if not all of it. I'd rather quit while i was way up and come back later, my friend stayed and gave about 10,000 back in the next two days. happy we came back when we did.

To say the least i think there will be a fifth trip this year on their coin, already called and they will give me RFB and refund one plane ticket. I guess they really want their money back, jajja.

Congrats on the win but that is crazy to cut your trip short.......would have been better to put $12,000 in a safe deposit box and enjoy the rest of your trip with $3,000 found money. The pit boss was correct that there is a lot of fun to be had in Vegas....shows, dinner, lowball at some slots while enjoying "free" beverages. What did your wife think of leaving the day after you arrived?!

    Tough call.
    I agree with Breanna's logic.

But knowing that perhaps you'd be tempted to play huge stake stakes again and lose it back sometimes makes logic a poor choice. Logical choices need to be followed with good discipline.

So many gamblers cannot seem to quit ahead and since 99 per cent of the gambling opportunites are in the favor of the casino, this means losses have to accompany any long term play.

At least when you put distance between your winning sessions and your ultimate loss, you gain the delightful advantage of enjoying being ahead for a long period of time.

Before you next trip, it might help to strategize for winning as well as losing sessions. If you can shift gears from a gambling trip to a party celebration after winning, you will better realize the value of your airfare and hotel investment.
But if this time you knew you could not, then many kudos for leaving. "You gotta know when to walk away, and know when to run."

Take the money and run, and enjoy it the next day... you did the smart thing... and you've got the money today while otherwise you might not have.

Good win, and good for you.

Hey, you had a big win

Nothing wrong with having a tax problem.

But there is way too much fun to be had that does not involve gambling.

Hopefully, your next trip and the next big win you and your wife are going to stay and see a show you have always wanted to see.

Better to leave ahead I guess. Wasn't your wife upset to have to leave early?

Congratulations, I think you know yourself, you knew what you had to do, smart, smart call.

Probably saved you $10K like your friend dumped back.

Remember what Robert de Niro says, "In the end... we get it all."

yes, it was the fastest trip to vegas i've ever done, but it was fun tho. Wife did not like coming so soon but then again she knows that there will be another trip in the not to distant future. Forgot to mention there was a guy on the next table to us that was up about 80 to 100K, i guess that pit was not having a good night that day.

I cannot believe your wife was up for leaving so soon when she hadn't even had a chance to have some fun. Who knows maybe she'd have been on a lucky streak too!

You can easily get a bank draft for less than 10K. Send home most of it and keep a few grand to play with and have fun. I would never cut a trip short because of winning, but knowing yourself is a bag part of gambling.

I don't blame you at all for making the hasty exit. Chances are that saved you a lot of money.

After hitting a $10K jackpot my last trip and taking a check I was up $13,500 for a short time. I gave back $4,500 of it over the final 3 days of my trip. I can live with that because those 3 days were a blast partying with my friends, but honestly if I hadn't taken that check, I would have lost more of it back than I did. And I lost that money back being pretty conservative.

My theory is when you are winning big, you've gotta take a couple pot shots at the true big money, you did that with your $5,000 bet. If you hadn't done that you might have left wondering "what if".

By leaving with a big win, but on that losing note, you can return without that flippant "found money" attitude you might have had with all those winnings and a little bitter taste in your mouth makes the return wait easier.

I'd say you played it perfectly.
