    Viva,
You weren't kidding when you told me awhile back you were a big sports fan. And, you ain't no slouch either when it comes to the rest of the gambling. scene
You're a perfect example of someone that goes to Vegas to have serious fun, not to lollygag around.
    Nice TR.
I hope our paths cross someday.

I think after 10 of these, all I'd catch would be a good case of the hiccups!!!
    Nice TR.

Great report. I used to love that end of the strip, but with the construction and dirt/dust I am soooo happy to be staying downtown... :evillaugh

I do as well for many reasons including the fact that I would now know two people who hiked to / from McCarran.

My brother flew out on Tuesday afternoon (a day after I left) and walked from Hooters hotel to the McCarran terminal for several reasons including:

    A. We discussed your trek and are always up for an adventure.
    B. He wanted to catch more sun.
    C. His bags were light.

He liked the art displays and cacti along the way. I was in no shape to complete this task Monday morning but may go for it in November. The walk really isn't that far and we usually walk much farther in one stretch during the trip. We usually walk to Ellis Island from the strip if we are flying out together for a final meal and then to Terribles for the bus back to the airport (if a Flamingo bus is not on the way).

I've walked numerous times from mid strip to downtown / back which is further in distance. Being from Chicago, I do not fear the so called "bad" areas as there are far worse in Chicago though if I were elderly or a woman I would probably pass on any nightime excersions.

    Makers Mark

As far as 10 Maker's Mark, I'm usually ok (after 2 or 3 I do not have adverse effects - am oblivious to additional drinks) though I was working on minimal food and lost 6-8 lbs during the trip. The Wynn used to serve Woodford Reserve at the tables but that has been cut out of all but the high level room. Players were saying they stopped serving fruit in the drinks. Elaine must have cleaned out Steve.

Coda - I can't quit (you) Vegas baby.

Decline in deals: Southwest Airlines & Hotel Offers I've noticed SW has been quite stingy with flights from Chicago to Vegas. I haven't seen a ding or sale fare in quite sometime. I have a weekend trip to Kentucky two weeks from now to catch Alabama and perhaps Harness Racing at the Red Mile (depending on game time which still has not been announced) and will complete my 16 flight requirement for the free trip. I may be staying with United which is offering better fares than SW which is the opposite of my experience over the years.

I believe you only needed 8 legs (4 round trips) for free flights in the past and without the cheap fares I do not think I'll earn another free flight in the future. I booked a few trips at once with the great December 2008 fare sale but pickings have been slim since.

I've also noticed a huge decline in general public hotel deals from all casinos (I've signed up for Harrah's, MGM, Boyd, Palms, Station, South Point). Golden Nugget is the only consistent mailer of discounted rooms (without casino play).

The Woodford Reserve is quite good...I have a bottle I picked up in Kentucky a few years ago and am nursing. I do like Maker's. Can't always get it at the slots/$5 tables though:)

    Great TR.
