    My Trip Report

    I stay at the Palms.

My brother asks if I can take his daughter and friends to Vegas and show them the Vegas Lifestyle. I have never met her husband. Supposedly, she and her friends had been "planning" this Las Vegas getaway for awhile.

She says she has four friends that want to come along. I call up my drinking buddy :drunk: and say "Meet me in Vegas." I arrange for SIX rooms, all in the old tower, and all in the east end for the view of the strip.

Now her friends start to show their true colors. I then deal with one friend dropping out, one friend insisting on going to the Playboy Club, one friend is lost in Alaska, one friend has comp plane tickets and might not make it. The friend that dropped out wants back in the day after I change ALL of my reservations that I have made. I really hate being the party host for people and then them thinking that all I do is wave a magic wand to get things done.

OK, I have arranged for the pool cabana, a table in the Playboy Club, club tables, dinner reservations at my favorite restaurants. Then my niece calls me and says that her Mom told her that I could get her and her friends spa treatments.

I always like to offer that as a surpise when I am there and after I get to know them. But my sister in law has let that one out. I said OK, but only for her and the girls. I am not comping spa treatments for the guys. The guys have to sit around and drink with me.

I told my niece that I expect her friends to come with one night of nice clothes with dress shoes. DING DING DING!! The girls will be ok, but her guy friends might not be. I tell her fine, if the bar guys won't let the guys in then me and my friend will certainly enjoy being with three young ladies by ourselves.

I tell my niece that I expect her friends to cover some of the tips since I am covering their rooms, bar bills, and meals. When I tell her the numbers, DING DING DING!!!! Danger Will Robinson!!!! This is when the second bell goes off. Looks like I am letting them eat at the buffets, although I will allow them to dine with the adults on Saturday night at Alize. Which is one of my favorite spots to eat and view Las Vegas.

I gave them directions to tell their cab driver on how to get to the PALMS. No tunnel drives from the airport.

One thing I am doing on this trip is buying the cheap plastic guitar filled with daiquiris available at some little drink place on the strip by the Flamingo I think. I found the place in February but it was too cold then and I was not on a drinking trip that time.

I plan on dragging the youngsters around on Friday and recovering on Saturday by the Palms Pool. Friday morning I will be in the sportsbook making my football "investments."

The Main Question, can the youngsters keep up with me and the Triple A team. I am not in the Big Leagues yet. I might have to just put them down to the Single A team.

I am packed and ready to get going. Disaster almost occurred. Last night, I gave my wife my cell phone since she was taking our son to orchestra rehearsal. She has a company blackberry and only feels the blackberry is for business. I was not even looking for my phone during packing.

    Cameras - check
    Clothes - check
    Cash - check
    Drivers License - check
    credit card - check
    toiletries - check
    belts - check
all my reservation sheets - check
    shoes - check
phone charger - check (yes I verified I had that, but not the phone, that could have been a DOH! moment.

Yes, the same cell phone that I need in Las Vegas to call everyone and the office if I have to, she has it. She calls from work, says she is coming home because she knew I would then give her endless crapola for taking and keeping my cell phone the day before I go on my trip. No, she did not ask our other son for his, because he needs to be able to call his friends perpetually. Me, I only need the cell phone when I need it, not always.

I got most of my pre-trip chores done.

I want to add - of the four casino that I have used for comps, The Palms has been by far the friendliest and most pleasurable for me to play at. If I want or need anything, I can call the host or Sportsbook and I am instantly happy. I never have to go into the interrogation room and have the full inquisition with the Powers that be or people who think they have Powers. I cannot say the same happened to me at the MGM.

    The Room Story

Five Arrive on Thursday, I am the last one. Two more come in on Friday.

    About the rooms
Saturday Night is the Midsummer's Night Dream Playboy party, Pirate THEMED. Girls get in FREE to this party. Guys have to pay $200.00 to enter and if you want a cabana I think it was another three grand. I did not attend as the party is too loud and I do not need a bunch of drunks bumping into me. (Unless I was one of the drunks, but I was a NON attendee.)

Big crowd coming for the party. Hotel is booked. Rooms will be hard to come by.

The Palms has AC problems in the Palms Tower and some minor flooding issues in room 1603. The AC problems knock out all rooms of 01 and 03 in the old tower, Palms Tower. Three of those rooms were reserved for my party.

Words of Wisdom for you -- NEVER, EVER TURN ON THE TUB AND PASSOUT. You room bill is around 10 grand for room 1603. On a side note, as I was talking with the guys laying the carpet in the room they told me about a Strawberry FETISH party at the Hard Rock that cost that person over 100 grand for the room repair. That was a gut the entire room and rebuild it is what they said.

The Palms moved one couple into my room for Thursday night, I was in 21102 and reserves my NAME for Friday and the rest. I like those rooms as it is a Junior Suite with a SPECTACULAR view of the strip and I can see the pool.

Friday comes, and it is a free for all on rooms. So many people checking in and the rooms are still not available, so staff checking in other guests STEAL any room they can. Pfft, there went mine on Friday. Since I am a nice person, VIP comps me up higher and in a bigger suite. No view of the strip or pool, but I have seen it so many times, that I took the bigger suite with the upgraded amenities. Not to mention, I KNOW HOW LOUD THE PLAYBOY PARTY IS and that it goes until 3 AM or so and it is LOUD, even on the 21st floor.

All parties are checked in successfully and into the correct rooms by Friday early evening. Life is good.

    A few small problems.

I had instructed my niece to tell her friends that they are NOT supposed to touch the refrigerator or the bottles of water. I get free water in the VIP room and if they touch the refrigerator stuff they are buying. I am NOT covering that.

Well, they touch the water(only 5 bucks.) After that I show them how to get the water.

They touch the refrigerator and remove stuff so they can chill the $5 buck water bottles. Now those $5 dollar bottles just cost them $39 each. Sometimes, you need to learn a tough life lesson and respect your uncle.

The other small problem, all my friends that I take to Las Vegas are non smokers. I never even think about smoking and non-smoking. Well, I had non-smoking rooms and of course, they ARE smokers.

    Oh chit.

Friday night I go back and change the two rooms down to the 7th floor. No idea if they had a view or not. And I did not care.

Finally, the rooms are settled and the life lesson on not listening to the wise uncle has cost them some real cash.

    The more friends story

So, I finally arrive at the Palms in time to get their dinner and drinks at Garduno's covered. I tell them to order me a lava flow and one beef taco while I go check in and tell the casino I have arrived.

I come in and I meet a new friend that is not on the list. I go HUH??? Turns out there are some more friends in Vegas that just happened to be there. No problem, dinner and drinks on me.

Only problem, I have no drink and a boxed up taco. I say, I want a drink and give them some more cocktails.

Turns out there is another eight or so friends in town. We go meet over at the Rio, I go to show them the Parade in the Sky and the bead catching. I go back to the Palms and I go to bed, because I have some bets to make on Friday and I want rest and a clear head. I am asleep around midnight.

We meet the friends at the Flamingo Pool Cabana on Friday and at the Palms Pool Cabana on Saturday.

You know what they say, the more the merrier.

Get up Friday morning EARLY. 4 AM.

Friday morning I get up and notice I do not have a coffee pot in my room. I figure it is a mistake. I go down to 24/7 and get coffee. Turns out, two months ago, around June 1, the PALMS removed all coffee pots from the rooms.

No beer in the VIP, I could handle losing that. No coffee in the VIP, I could handle losing that. But no coffee in my room!!!! That is annoying. The Red Lion gives me coffee, OK, I think the Red Lion does.

I go to wander down to the Sportsbook for my betting sheets. Uh oh, I notice a lone female sitting at the end of the bar looking at me. Not a good sign. I DO NOT make eye contact.

She was not unattractive, it is just that I am not into hiring "entertainers." I like my "personal entertainers" to be around 5' 7" to 5' 11", fit, non-smokers, and a social drinker. And no extra "RESORT" fee.

So, I walk over to the Gold Coast and get their sheets, I wander over to the Rio and get their sheets. I come back to the Palms, and I can get into the Sportbooks for the Palms Sheets. I then go to the Center Bar to sit and study and watch ESPN.

There I am, just about all alone, NOT SMOKING because I am a non-smoker. She must have been watching for me because who comes wandering up and asks me for a cigarette. I say, "Excuse me?" She repeats, "I was wondering if you had any cigarettes." My response, "Sorry, I do not smoke." She went away.

I cannot fault her for making the pitch. Any salesperson hears nine NOs for every Yes.

I figure out some of my bets. I decide it is time for breakfast at 24/7. I always get the Eggs Benedict my first day in Las Vegas. Yum yum.

I am fortified, I go shower and head back out to go back to the Rio and take the FREE Harrahs Shuttle so I can accomplish my goal of scoring the Rockhouse Bar Plastic Guitar of Liquor.

I get my strawberry Daiquiri in a blue guitar at 9:30 AM. Needless to say, at that time I am getting a lot of stares as I walk around attempting to suck ICE through the straw.

Around this time, I get a call from the entourage, wondering where I am. I tell them I will head back and meet them at 24/7 for breakfast.

I walk back. I enjoy making that walk and I do it every time I am in Vegas.

While walking along Flamingo Road cars are stopping!! and asking me where they can get the guitar. If you do not know Flamingo Road, it is a busy thoroughfare.

I do some picking up of trash(the Girl Personals) for the boys so they have some minor reading material.

I walk into the Palms and some bachelors wonder where they can get the guitar.

I discover the guitar is an excellent conversation starter.

I had drank 40 ounces of the Daiquiri on my walk back. I am beginning to feel a bit inebriated.

I give the reading material to the boys and ask the girls what they want from the Spa and Salon. I order a Bloody Mary, while carrying my guitar.

I wander over to the Spa and Salon and get the brochures and give them to the girls. Once the girls make their decision, I haul them over to the Spa and Salon and have them make their own reservations. That way, any screwup is not my fault. The girls schedule haircuts, pedicures, and manicures for 5 PM.

    Friday Afternoon and Evening

Time for everyone to get ready to go to the Flamingo and the GO Pool. This is an adults only, European pool.

These are my three Rules of European Pools.

    1. Go early if you want to see guys go "European."

    2. Go late or stay late because at this time the girls begin to get enough courage to go "European."

    3. Never get in the pool. Too much lotion and cocktails in the pool and the pool filtering system cannot keep up.

I leave the Flamingo because my drinking buddy is arriving at around 4:15 PM and my job is to ensure that he has at least two beers in his hand when he walks in the door.

I make it back in time and he gets settled in. We drink some more beers at the Center Bar and he and I go to NINE Steakhouse. Our server was Jolene who was very friendly, good sense of humor, and if there are any single guys out there, she would be a good catch.

The kids are back in time for their 5 PM Salon and Spa.

I like to eat early, so we are 5:30 sitting at NINE. The kids are still wandering around. I know they won't be ready for dinner until later so we eat and drink without them. I had steak and ALWAYS get the LOBSTER Mashed Potatoes. ALWAYS.

The kids call me and say they are in Little Buddha. We were just eating dessert and having port so we were finishing up. I wander over to Little Buddha to see what problems they have caused.

They are having a terrific time. Lots of liquor, seeing lots of neat stuff, and good food. Lots of laughter going on. I make sure their bill is all covered and my friend and I wander over to the CENTER bar for some more beer and socializing.

The kids go over and gamble on the strip and they plan on going to O'Sheas for some beer pong. I decline. I am drinking at the Palms. My usual routine. On Saturday, I discover that O'Sheas was too crowded and they did not attend Beer Pong.

I am sitting there at the bar, getting too lazy to get up and get my own drinks from the bar so I ask some other guys standing there to get them for me. They turned out to be from LA and had no problem giving me my drinks. I offered them a round and they then bought me one. They were comped also.

They turned out to be four married guys and we were two married guys all in Vegas sans our wives.

So now, we begin to get silly. These LA guys are good looking dudes and they should have no trouble meeting women. So we start talking about all the chicks at the bar. One thing leads to another, I bet one guy that this one lady is a lady and they all say she is a man.

So, I go over and talk with her and I tell her that he thought she looked tough. So she goes over and talks to him. He hands me my winnings. She was waiting for her male friend to come to the bar. It still took some convincing.

Then there was another drunk that thought he was THE MAN. I would sic him on women after I bought the women drinks. He never had a chance.

I then buy some more drinks for another two pretty good looking women at the bar. These women I found attractive. In my chatting them up one of them says that I should give my room number to her friend and they would come up and entertain me.

I had to think on that one. Why do I give my room number to the other one? Why don't I give it to the one I am talking to? Well, too confusing for me, and I think it is the "RESORT" fee entertainment that I do not want. I walk away.

Later on, all my drinking buddies had wandered off gambling leaving me with the drunk and another "personal entertainer." Well, that was not going to last. I left the bar and I had obtained a short line pass for the GHOST bar.

I usually go see how the line is for the Ghost and if it is a long line I grab some random bachelorette party that is waiting and get them in front. Tonight, the clipboard guy did not appreciate me, probably because I was a bit tipsy and acting like an ass tyring to get these girls up front.

I did not go with them, but I did send the drunk with the bachelorette party. Not very nice of me, I get them a short line, but I stuck the drunk with them. C'est le vie.

I was in bed around 1 AM. Another early morning because I wanted to make sure I had my cabana at the POOL because I knew Saturday was going to be a big day with the Playboy Party.

I opened the Pool at 9:01 AM on Saturday.

Saturday and I have ZERO tan

Today, is Saturday and the big finale day. Tomorrow, most of the guests go home.

Today we are doing the Palms Pool, Alize for dinner, and the Playboy Club.

I open the pool and make sure I know the cabana and how everyone can get in. I communicate the cabana number and name to my niece and her friends.

I go make a couple more bets. I get some account maintenance done and I get to sweet talk a cocktail waitress that I have known for years. She is friendly, beautiful, intelligent, good sense of humor, and a good conversationalist.

I begin my tanning session and early morning drinking all by myself.

Some guys get the cabana next to me, but they were not friendly and chatty. Until they needed something from me.

Then, Yvette and Lynette moved in. So, I am my usual chatty self and I start talking to them before the young studs do. Figuring I had no chance once they got involved.

But Yvette and Lynette were not only beautiful and very attractive in their bikinis and thongs and I actually talked to them a few more times. That was nice. That got my libido going.

At the end of the day, they even called me uncle. As much as I liked that they talked to me, I then realized that I am getting old!!

The kids start to rouse themselves and I tell them to come on out and eat breakfast by the pool. They are getting a bit run down. One sleeps in the cabana, then two sleep in the cabana. The sleepers then perk up and go to their rooms to sleep.

Later on, I see my drinking buddies from the Center Bar and I drag my cocktail waitress down to buy them a round. Their cocktail waitress was not happy but mine was quite giddy. She got to see four good looking guys from LA and I padded her tip a bit more.

Their drink was beer with lemon juice and tabasco. It had some south american name and when I was talking with Yvette and Lynette they knew the name and I got to talk to those two lovely ladies some more.

The rest of the crew arrives sometime and I am getting a NICE burn going. I start doing my card tricks and other magic to impress my niece and her friends. No idea if I did, but the card tricks are pretty darn good.

I finally realize that I am a lobster and I head in for protection. I go up to my room and shower and change into cool clothes and head back down to inform the kids about the next date, dinner at Alize. They close the pool and I tell them they have around 1:30 minutes to get ready for dinner at Alize. Nice pants and shoes are required.

Dinner time. The usual happens. One of them is putzing around, a sleeper from the cabana and obviously he did not have enough sleep yet. He is late. The Nephew in Law goes to find him.

    Not going well.

The putzer shows up and quickly insults the waiter. Luckily, I know Stavros so we are not kicked out for a belligerent person in our party. We order, get to enjoy the view as the sun sets on Vegas. The putzer goes back to bed.

I discover the putzer needs a lot of personal attention and lacks responsibility. Exactly the type of person I do not need to be around. He was constantly losing his keys, he was the heavy smoker, he was the guy that did the water, he was the guy that was told not to smoke in certain places by the Palms Staff. He constantly forgot where his room was. When he was by himself he needed attention and hand holding because the phones never stopped buzzing, even though he was alone of his own choice.

The Palms is beginning to fill up with lots of pirates and damsels in Lingerie. I am beginning to regret i did not get a ticket for the Playboy Party.

Dinner ends, next up is the Playboy Club.

Everyone gets about one hour to change and get their act together.

My drinking buddy has had enough and he is asleep by 10 PM. My niece has phone problems and then her friend forgets to charge her phone. So, the three numbers I have none of them are answering.

I am down by the Playboy Club Desk all by myself. Going,.... WTF!!!!! We finally get together and get inside. Only five of us.

The kids enjoyed the Playboy Club and walking up to Moon and dancing and coming back down to the Playboy Club table.

Our waitress could have had her act together a bit more and she seemed to forget about us once in awhile. On the first pour I tipped her 50 bucks, I do that so they come back more often. I guess the other tables tipped her better in the beginning.

Luckily, Lagrazziella took care of us. Lagraz was my cocktail waitress two years ago and one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. She was surprised I actually remembered her name. How could I not!! She is a Fantasy woman for me. Even my wife said she was one of the most beautiful women she had ever seen.

I left before the liquor ran out. Everything was taken care of before I left.

My niece and her friends are definitely running out of energy.

    RECOMMENDATION
As the Midsummer Night's Party ends you want to head to the 24/7 cafe to do some people watching. Get there around 1:45 AM because the crowd will head out and go for food and be really really drunk. Very entertaining "people watching" if you can stay up that late. You see some things that are definitely going to be staying in Las Vegas.

    Sunday the slowdown day

Up at 6 AM today. I guess I am beginning to adjust to Vegas time.

I wander down and get my coffee. I text my drinking buddy and he is AWAKE!!! He slept for over 8 hours. Whereas that is about my total sleep time for the weekend.

Finally, I get to do some table playing. We play craps as he knows I love craps. One thing I do not like is being the only players. I have lost a small fortune when it was just me against the house.

With my drinking buddy with me though I had someone to talk to so it was fun. He shoots like heck on his first roll. I put my money down to roll and he grabs the dice. I told him it was my turn to shoot!!! Luckily, he is my friend so I can give him crap and the dealers are all smiling.

I start talking to the dealers about the names for the rolls. Snake eyes, Box Cars, Fever Five, Ginger's Toes.

They had never heard of Ginger's Toes for a 9. Ginger was a "personal entertainer" back in some time frame. She had nine toes, one either being shot off, bit off, stomped on, or born without. I guess Naughty Nine was not an option in the old days.

We are not rolling well. A couple other guys show up and I start tossing buck hard way bets for the dealers. I always try to give the dealers some action. I burn through that but I finally hit a hard eight of which I even had money on. Dealers make a small win, I lessen my loss.

Time for breakfast. 24/7 again this time I have stuffed French Toast. The kids are still a no show.

After breakfast, we wander down to the Sportsbook so my friend can make some bets using my account. I still have not looked for my tickets. I have a bunch somewhere. I will need those to collect. I am pretty sure I know their location.

My friend goes to cash in his chips and I plop down at a slot machine to kill some time. Since I do not play slots or really care to figure out all of the lines I just hit max bet, max lines. I win 500 and I am excited. Turns out, I am on a penny machine. Bummer, I cash out. But I am 5 bucks ahead on playing slots. I had to walk back because I left my players club card in the machine. That is why I hate slots, I need to stick the fricking card in to earn comp. In the sportsbook it is oh so much easier for me.

We then wander down to play poker. No idea why my friend cashed in his chips because they can be used at poker. He realizes the same thing, so we blame the liquor and boredom.

We play for two hours. For me, Poker is learning about how the others play. I do not consider myself a good poker player. I might be able to be one since I used to play chess and I can concentrate, but I figure if the cards are against you there is too much LUCK involved.

I play tight. I get crap hands. I know I got a LOT of unsuited 7s and 8s, which are nice for cribbage but not for a dumb poker player. I am mostly mucking them or paying to see the flop and then mucking. (mucking is a mining term for pushing rock basically, so I assume it comes from the days of miners in Nevada gambling) I finally get an ok hand, but I turn out to be against pocket aces to the French Dude. I lose that one. But I did learn how to say "I want to be your sex slave" in French. Now, I just need to meet a girl that speaks french and try it out.

I win some, I lose some. I lose a big hand to one guy at the other end. But I am figuring out that the guys at the table are mostly bluffers. I start to get some good cards. I take Frenchie for his money, he wanted to know if I had four 8s, I told him I had a full house. Which I did. I just did not show them, I made them think on what I had.

I got the guy at the end when I had two pair knowing full well he liked to bluff and sure enough he was bluffing. I took my drinking buddy for some money.

An older asian man came and sat down, and I thought UH OH, but he did not stay long. He figured we were lucky idiots. He left in disgust it seemed.

There was another young asian guy on my right. He had a HUGE stack as he had been playing all night. We went heads up a few times I never made a dent in his chips and he did not dent mine.

So, the table got down to me, my buddy, and the young asian. We decide to call it a game. Yay, our end of the table took everyone else's money. I now have a nice little roll in my pocket.

If I did not tip and take cabs I might be able to come out ahead on my Vegas trips.

The kids start to wake up. I get them fed. They are supposed to be flying out today.

Uh oh. They start to drink.

Another one of my rules - ALWAYS KNOW WHEN YOU ARE LEAVING LAS VEGAS. I have never missed a flight.

I cannot say the same for the young ones. They have no idea what time they are leaving, they take a guess. Well, their guess was their friend's time on Monday not Sunday.

The nephew in law is WASTED. I get his ass out of the pool bar and inside. I tell him he can have some more booze at the bar. Once I get him inside, I then tell the bartender that he is cutoff. He keeps b!tching at me for cutting him off and I keep telling him he needs to get to the airport and not be kicked off his flgiht. blah blah blah....

The niece, her husband, and a friend are now on stand by and get out late at night. My friend made it to his plane on time. Yay for us older responsible people.

I do not leave until Monday. The other young lady does not leave until Monday. But we have putzer asleep in a room, he has no clue when his flight is. I tell her that I am done babysitting him, he is her friend and I do not care what he is doing.

She asks me what we are doing for dinner and I told her that on Sunday's it is usually my personal time and I take sanctuary over in Palm's Place. Quieter.

For dinner she and I go to Simon's and eat sushi. I finally get to watch a football game and she wants to jabber at me about her dog, her house, her job, her ex boyfriend, her wish for a horse......

So much for my quiet time in my sanctuary.

The other one is buzzing her a lot wondering where we are. If we even explained it to him with a map and sent a guide to him, he would not be able to find us. No point in giving directions and I would have probably left anyway.

Go to bed. Wake up. Leave Las Vegas in the morning.

I think I surpassed the young ones expectations.

I squeezed a lot into the trip and I did not leave much time for myself. I might need to go out during football season because I did not get all my bets in. I got a few but I do not feel fulfilled on it. Maybe I will change my mind when I see how the bets I did make pan out by Mid October.

I actually enjoyed spoiling everyone. I complained about them, but it was still fun. And when my oldest turns 21 I hope I can still do this for him and his friends at that time.

    End of report.

Nice TR, although about half of it seemed to be scrambling because of the kids - you definitely have more patience than I would.
