    My Trip Report

Players: me (k) and my husband (M), BIL and his wife, (B&L) and another couple (G&D)

We play mostly Treasure Chest (TC) – for those who don’t know it’s a VP game at Boyd casinos and DB or DDB.

Thursday 4/16 – Woke up at 5:30 am, got the kiddies off to daycare, swung by to pick up B&L and off to CVG airport we went. Checked in, got a coffee and muffin at Starbucks and ready to board the plane. Movie was Frost/Nixon. (snooze fest)

Arrived at LAS and off the Alamo counter to pick up our steal of a rental (4 days – Premium - $64) couldn’t do kiosk check in for some reason, so we had to wait in the terribly long line…finally got thru, got a Maxima and off to In N Out Burger, (by UNLV ) None of us had been there before. Me and Hubby both got burgers, animal style and animal style fries and shakes (vanilla for me, strawberry for him) It was good, BUT my only gripe was our fries were 3.19 ???? the burgers were only 2.99 with no extra charge for animal style. I expected an extra charge for animal style, just not 3.19…so in the future, would not get the fries animal style (even though they were delicious). Once we were done with that, we went to Vons for beer and water. Now this premium car was PACKED full. The 4 of us, 2 suitcases, 2 golf bags, 2 carry ons , 2 cases a beer, water, etc….L had the golf clubs between her legs in the front seat. A suitcase was between me and my husband. I had a case of beer on my lap, along with water…it wasn’t an enjoyable ride, to say the least!

I think we got to MSS around noon ish….Went to check in, we were trying to get 2 rooms together and the other check in lady swiped our room and gave it to B&L so we had no room…No biggie, we dropped out bags in B&L’s room and off to the casino we went….with our new Bconnected cards…

My husband and I are BIG VP players (quarter level)…We started at Treasure Chest, the progressive was around somewhere between 11-1200..My husband and I have little side bets for all of VP play (1st 4 OAK, 1st 2, 3,4’s, 1st Aces, etc) Yes, we are dorks, but it makes it fun. We have a bet that whoever gets the first 4 OAK has to stand until one of us hits another one…Now seasoned VP players know this could be hours! Well, hubby hit the first on TC so time for me to stand. Luckily, I hit my first one 5 minutes later!!!

I was not doing well, couldn’t hit much. We moved to some Game King machines and played 10/7 DB…M wasn’t doing much so he said, I’m switching to DDB, he’s dealt 2-Aces, throws the rest and up pop 2 more Aces and a 4 – Score - $500. We also have a “deal†anything over $500, the other gets 10% - yeah, $50 for me! :kiss:But the bet we had was the other had to chug the brewmaster’s special – something that is 12 or 13% alcohol content – more to come on that.

We went to Triple 7, I got the nachos and M got the Filet sandwich. Delicious as usual!

Even with my extra $50, I quickly ran through my bank roll….went to bed at 8pm with a total of 3 – 4oaks. A pretty poor start for me, but M was doing well. I went to bed before I even saw G&D…but the arrived somewhere after I hit the hay (yes, I’m a loser)

    Friday – 4/17 – 10 yr anniversary!

Train woke me up at 6am, laid in bed til 7 pondering if I should start gambling and if it would be as horrible as the day before…Get out of bed and go downstairs by 8…yep, just as bad. Lose $100 in a little over an hour…I was starting to bum….i resorted to playing some penny VP (I was hitting rock bottom!)

M came downstairs and we went to the MSS buffet for breakfast with B, G&D, not sure where L was ….After breakfast, the guys hit the links and the girls headed to the strip…We just walked around, got a quick bite at O’shea’s food court. Caught the Big Elvis show at 3 and the Bellagio fountains at 4:30. then headed back to MSS…

We had dinner ressies at 2nd st Grille at Fremont at 8pm. I think I went back to the room and laid down. M came in from golfing and wanted to gamble a bit.

I decided to get ready for dinner. MSS had given us a $100 comp to use at 2nd St. We each got a glass of wine, we started with the crab cakes (14.95 for 2, good but wayyyyyy overpriced) and we both opted for the 29.99 filet and crab legs special (not on the menu) comes with a salad, 6 oz filet, several crab legs, mashed potatoes and a scoop of ice cream for dessert. We both decided the filet was bigger than 6 oz and the crab legs were awesome, they were cut length wise so no cracking needed and they brought drawn butter over some candle thingy. Potatoes were so-so….but even though it was comp, I’d pay 29.99 for this meal. I think our bill came to 103 something…(m got a 2nd glass of wine)

Now it was time to gamble! I held my own the rest of the night and 5TC 4oaks (4 for 140 and 1 for 180) and 1 SF and broke even for the evening (but was still down $100 for earlier) but I was OK with that. Hubby got 1 SF and 5 TC 4oaks (all 140)

Now the highlight of the evening was me “making good†on my bet, since husband got the 4Aces w/Kicker. Asked the waitress what the 12% brewmaster was and she said “heiferzeisen†and I said, ok bring me that. I chugged it. I was impressed with myself, it was nasty (more to come on that later)

    Saturday – 4/18 – a good day

Saturday was a total gambling day….Got up, had some baileys and coffee, B&L and D&G went to eat lunch, we decided to stay and play…we finally decided to eat lunch around 1-ish…

I found out the Heiferzeisen was not the 12% beer, but the barley wine was…gag, I didn’t make good on my bet, so another chug was in my future…

Ate lunch, came back to TC and B&L and D&G had 4 of the 5 spots on one side of TC and the other 5 were taken. Me, being the gracious wife that I was, said to M, take the spot, I need a drink anyway, I’m going to sit up at the bar….Well after about 20-25 minutes, D comes up to me at the bar and says “M needs you, I think he’s out of money†I knew darn well he wasn’t out of money…By now, the TC progressive hadn’t been hit since we arrived and it was over $1400. I was hoping…as I walked from the bar, I could see the progressive sign and that it had reset to 1000, by now, I’m half running and what do you know, I get there and there’s M standing there with a jackpot sign stuck in his machine with a huge smile on his face….he held the K, 10 of hearts…. – he hit it for 1425.15 !!!!!

Now I stated previously we make these side bets, so for a royal, it was the other person had to eat Sushi at 777 (we are not sushi fans). Well M decided to get really specific – if it was a spades royal, you had to eat Squid, diamonds was eel, etc…Well, for hearts, you got a pass – you had to eat Shrimp cocktail!!!!! Yeah for me!!! No Sushi!!! We both started laughing when we realized it was hearts! M was shaking when they came up with the w-2G. His first w-2G, still waiting on mine!.

Had dinner at 777, we both had shrimp cocktail and I had the prime rib and I can’t remember what M had, but I’m sure it was good. Over all, Saturday was a great gambling day. M got 11 4oaks, 1 being 4 aces with the kicker, again, plus the royal of course. And I got 18 -4 oaks (1 being 4 aces, no kicker) and 1 SF.

Since I got the 4 aces, no kicker, he had to run up the flight of stairs at the MSS. We thought this was going to be an issue, b/c we couldn’t find stairs on the ground floor. We asked the front desk and they said, it is an outside entrance and you would need security to let you in…so, he took the elevator to the 3rd floor and ran from there (we were on floor 15) We also got some 2, 3, 4’s but nothing with the kicker….

we were up past 3 that night…doing shots at the Boar bar – they recommended a “chocolate cake†shot – YUMMY! :drunk:

We also played some BJ on Saturday…I won $30 and M won over $200. It was a good run, we were at a $5 table and M’s highest bet was $35 and I actually made it up to $20 (rarely go above $10, unless I’m doing well) Like I said, Saturday was GREAT! Oh yeah, and I did the barley wine chug as well as a Jaeger bomb chug to satisfy all of my bets.

We did go down to Fremont and caught the “American pie†light show…really enjoyed it..but that was the only one we saw, wanted to see Kiss and Queen…next time!

Sunday, April 19 – last full day in Vegas.
Woke up, M and I went to the boar bar for bailey’s and coffee. Didn’t do much. Guys hit the links again and the girls hit Fremont in search of souvenirs for the kids after we had a quick lunch at 777… Finally found some cute outfits…

Came back, watched some TV, went downstairs, played a bit, guys came back, played a bit more, went to 777 and played some more….M got 5 4 oaks and I got 6, most notably was the last one…We were at the boar bar, not doing much. M was wiped from golfing..It was about midnight. Playing DDB, when I get dealt 4 aces and a J. Go for the kicker!!!! Sure enough a 4 popped up…beautiful. I did something and broke my nail in the process, I guess I was clapping or something…It was worth it for $500….played a bit longer, but nothing…decided to call it a night.

Woke up early Monday, played a little TC, as it was up past 1200 again, we each got a 4 oak…then sadly, it was time to go.

    Random thoughts:

We left with more than we came with. Our rooms were comped up front, all of our food charges were taken care of as well.

One thing I did notice was the points earned on VP…In past trips, we would earn between $45-50 in cash back…(45000 points) this trip we earned 21000. All of the VP machines had stickers saying that this machine only earns 1 point per $3 played. So they cut back A LOT! Does anyone know, did they do this, when it switched to B connected? So we only got $21 back in cash…Not sure how that will affect future comps. We decided to play on 1 card this time and see if the offers increase, but with this new way, I’m not sure what will happen.

777 is awesome! We love their food. We love eating there.

No movie on way home – that stinks! Flight was ok, landing not so great!

Looking forward to our next trip!

I loved your TR especially because I am staying at MSS in October.....so I take it they have no more scratch cards for hitting 4 OAK's? That isnt a big deal though as most people only get 3 bucks per......

    Zerofan -

yes, they do have scratch off's - I just forgot to include them in my TR...The best we got was $3 but those were few and far between...Most were $2..I hope they don't do away with them! That adds to the fun!!! (even if it is just a couple of bucks!)

Nice report! Congrats on the hits and the anniversary.

A couple of thoughts I had while reading:

    - I knew for sure that hefeweisen wasn't a 12% beer. I've never seen one that high. They didn't have the barleywine when we got there the week after you. The new brewmaster's reserve is a honey bock.

    - it'll cost less than $500 to fix your broken nail :wink2:

    - I absolutely love waiting for my W2-g's. Sometimes the machine plays music (the winner's song?) and I hum along with it.

Congrats to your Hubby on the progressive win:nworthy: Those side bets you two have are intriguing; though, I don't think my wife would go along with some of them.

    What a fun trip report!!

    Enjoyed reading it.

The machines with stickers on them are only the ones that have at least one 100%+ game on them.

You get dinged on the points even if you are not playing the 100% game.

There are other machines there that give full points for VP.

Thanks to everyone for the congrats - the Royal definitely made the trip!

Kikky - too bad you weren't sitting next to me, to warn me the the Heferweisen wasn't the 12% Beer! It was quite funny. We had all of our little "side bets" planned out before the trip except for 4 aces/kicker...when we got there, we saw there was a 12% beer, and the decision was made...The one cocktail waitress out on the floor got to know us, She came up to us one night and said "ok, who lost the best today?" Be glad the barley Wine was gone when you got there - GAG! But I'm a Miller Lite girl, so I'm not a big micro brew fan... The "music" was playing when he hit the Royal....I actually captured some of it on my phone! never get sick of hearing that song!

Gmoney - The bets definitely make the trip more interesting (we both gamble like mad until we hit the 1st one)...It used to all be shotgunning beers or shots and we've got creative over the years. Ha, if one of us got the Treasure Chest $1199 bonus, the other would have had to gone into Glitter Gulch by themselves..(somehow, I think I got the raw end on that bet...)

Royal Flusher - Interesting on the 100%+ payout..I'm almost positive those stickers were on the Treasure Chest machines and since they are 8/5, they are not 100%+

Nice job on the TR and congratulations on the anniversary and the wins. I enjoy video poker and have never seen the TC machines. I will certainly look for them this trip.

Happy Belated Anniversary Wishes!!! We went to the MSS and 777 Brewpub for the first time last week....will try to get a trip report posted this weekend. We really enjoyed the place. Do you have any photos of their rooms? What is the pool like?
Congrats on the progressive JP. It's a safe bet that I won't be making any sidebets with my DH where he picks what I do.......pretty sure none of DH's choices would involve food and I'd hate to leave the Casino when I'm winning just so "he" can get lucky lmao

Pool? (Actually, you can use the one at the California next door I think.)

Re: the rooms, you can find a few photos on the MSS Web site. Imagine a Holiday Inn room with shutters instead of drapes on the windows. Imagine a bathroom built for a society made up of really tiny people. All you need to know, LOL....

Congrats on hitting the progressive !
I was just at MSS a couple weeks ago.
Love ALL of those micros at 777 but NOT Barlywine !:grrr:
I usually order their HUGE Chef's Salad.
    .
I was wondering what a Treasure Chest machine is ?
Is that the brand name of the VP machine ? ( like Game King ?)
    .
I pretty much play all my VP at the Boar Bar while watching
    the ballgames on TV.
I wanna go back RIGHT NOW !
    I didn't notice any " Stickers" ?
    .
    Thanks for the report -

Breanna - the rooms are pretty standard. They do have a fridge, which I like! don't have any pics, but yes, the showers can be interesting - very low shower heads. (esp challenging for my husband, as he's 6'4-6'5 ish.)

Joe - Treasure chest is, I believe, a creation of Sam Boyd. I believe it says "Sam Boyd's TC" on it...They are definitely old school, no TITO. So, I doubt they will be around forever. The stickers were very small, super tiny writing, but they were there, unfortunately...

I'm glad everyone has enjoyed our "side bets" If anyone has some good ideas for future ones, I'm all for it! We're always trying to mix it up a bit (ie, not just shots and beer chugs, etc)
