    My Trip Report

Folks, I need some help about the trip I took to Vegas on 10-17 to 10-24.
There was no problem with the flight from Boston MA.
Stayed at Bally's. No problem with the room.
Rented a auto @ Hertz. No problems with the auto.
But that is where the good news ends.
I always go to Vegas in October as a bithday present to myself
    Which is October 18th.
And it is a solo trip. I know a woman that lives in the city that I spend time with is the reason why. I tried to go with people I know, but they would want to eat all buffets all the time and counting every nickle & dime spent.
On Saturday, no family members or freinds call on my cell phone to wish me a happy birthday.
On Monday, I was to meet up with a individual that works for the same company that I do @ The Las Vegas Hilton for Denver New England MNF
I show up, the other person does not.
Saw him today & said he left his cell phone charger back home in MA.
The woman that I know that lives in Vegas leaves me a message Wednesday evening.
She informs me that her daughter is due with twins in December, but her daughter was informed by the doctors that the twins may have to be born in October.
So she is in the Washinghton DC Virgina area. I do not know what day she arrived on the east coast.
Had called three times earlier in the week with no reply.
No dates with the opposite sex for the whole week.
The week for me was just a day by day spiral of being angry at myself for the whole week falling apart even though I was trying to have a good time.
Here is my question: Am I being too hard on myself or since this was a trip planned very far in advance should I be upset?
Any help that I can get from the group would be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm, that's a lot to take in during a vacation. It's very easy to focus on the negatives. I sure do at times as well, but as Spamalot says, "always look on the briggggggggggggght side of life!" Can you tell me any good things that you encountered on this trip?

On average I spent 200.00 a day for gambling, food and drinks.
Came back home with 500.00 in travelers checks.
The bad beat jackpot at the Orleans went over 100,000.00 on Thursday.
Aces full of tens was the bad beat hand.
Say Barry Goldstein the poker player in the Bellagio on Sunday.

...well you a had a lousy week that is for sure...it is always disappointing to make plans and have them fall apart.
5 years ago a friend/co-worker (police officer)was killed on my Birthday...at that moment I decided 2 things...I would probably never have a worse birthday and I would never work on my birthday! So I make a point of being out of town...that being said ....you accomplished 2 of my goals being out of town and not working!!! Next year plan fun things that can be done solo if need be..I always try to do something new and different on my day....or just decide to go with the flow and let all the strangers around you help you celebrate...Hopefully next year wil be better...Happy belated Birthday

My first suggestion for the future would be that treating yourself doesn't have to exactly coincide with your birthday. You can stay home for the birthday and have a party with family and friends and then fly out the next week.

Not much that can be done about the other stuff. It may be annoying that you couldn't get hold of your lady friend, but it sounds like she had a bona fide emergency and rather a lot on her mind.

As for the coworker and the football game, with casual acquantances like that I'd avoid making set plans to meet, because they might flake as this guy did, but you also might end up doing something you don't really want to get away from to meet up. So maybe with stuff like that just leave it a bit more in the air (I'll be hanging out in this area this night, if you want to meet up and watch the game give me a call). Then you don't end up going out of your way unless they are in fact going to make it.

You also might want to give another try to the travelling with friends and family, but without feeling tethered to do everything together. Plan out with them some things you ALL want to do, and then let the rest be free for all. Just because they want to clip coupons and eat buffets doesn't mean you have to.

    Happy Belated Birthday

    Hi Archie1959,

I'm embarrassed to say that I'm a long-time lurker who never has had the nerve to post here before, but I just have to say "Happy Belated Birthday" to you.

I have never made a solo trip to LV. I have enjoyed all of my "alone time". On this past birthday I only had a handful of people call. So I can relate... A little bit.

Happy Belated Birthday Wishes!! It's unfortunate the "the best laid plans" fell apart, but if you have to be somewhere with no plans - Vegas is the place to be!! For 6 years a friend was living in Vegas and I would take one solo trip once a year to get together for a night or two on the town with her, but always had a couple of days & nights to myself when she was working and I loved it!! No one to answer to and I could do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted and not have to worry about waking anyone when I came into the hotel room in the wee hours of the morning or very late morning on occasion, lol

Bad trips happen. Sucks when they do, but ... they do.

Only thing I'd suggest is if you start to see the pattern (i.e. nothing happening as you intended) re-direct the trip and try some solo stuff you've never done before. Golf or the Liberace museum or an ATV ride or the spa or something. Hit every major casino in town in a 24 hr period. Something to break out of the streak.

and a belated happy birthday to you as well!

I wonder how old you are, because I have noticed that the older I get the less fuss is made about my birthday by others. My birthday is Oct. 19th BTW...I asked my wife to get me nothing so we could use that money in LV next week, she got me a card, my parents sent me a card and called me, I have 3 brothers and didn't get a card or a phone call from any of them, I have 53 Facebook friends...real friends, not just people I added to boost my friend count...and received birthday wishes from 4 of them. I turned 38 this year and it just seems that it's not just me thats a year older from my last birthday but everyone I know is a year older as well...the older you get, the more you have going on, the more chance to forget things like this. I wouldn't take it personally, in this day and age theres just too many things to distract us from actual human contact and caring about everyones well being...but thats how things are these days, I've been guilty of it myself, didn't mean to, but simply had too much going on and forgot.

First, happy belated birthday. Your post hit a note with me because I've had some of the same experiences in my life. I'm a divorced mom of three adult sons. One year I sat home on Mother's Day expecting some calls, visits, or cards but none of them contacted me. After I got over my hurt feelings, I decided that I can't control their actions but I can control mine. I made plans to be in Las Vegas for my birthday in November that year. It was funny that once I made plans that made me happy, I started getting the complaints that I wasn't going to be there so they could take me to dinner, etc.

In the end, the only thing we have control over is ourselves (and sometimes we don't even have that). Make your own happiness and you might be surprised. For example, next week I'm going to Disneyland and Vegas to celebrate my 60th birthday. As it turns out, my youngest son is going with me but even if I was going alone, it would be a great trip.

Hope next year is a better one for you.

    Sondra

Sondra, once I realized that, my whole life changed for the better. I do wish that I would have realized it at an earlier age.

That's exactly how I feel; I can't control anyone else's actions only my reaction to them. I too wish it hadn't taken me so long to realize that....I was in my mid 30's before that dawned on me and it was definitely one of the most important life lessons.

    Thanks for all the responses.
Time to fill in some of the questions that people have been asking
    I am 49 years old.
My lady friend was the individual that made a big deal about my bithday sine we met 8 years ago.
She would say happy bithday every time we met even if was not.
However two years ago, she filed Chapter 7.
And has been trying to get her life back together.
Regarding The Red Rooster: Way too many single guys and very hard to break the ice to say hello without interupting some one's conversation:poke:

Once a person feels comfortable by themselves, then being alone is actually quite nice.

Even though you had some dissappointments on this trip, I would need to take a look at this one question.

Who do I rely on to make me happy?

The true answer should be yourself.

It is a tiresome burden to be the source for someones else's entertainment and amusement.

    happy belated birthday.
