Golden Nugget 9/19 to 9/26

This was our annual trip for the wife's birthday. After thirty three years with me the woman should be canonized or something. Anyhow, we left Philadelphia via USAIR on time and arrived in the promised land 17 minutes early. Taxi line was brutal on a Friday. Finally get a cab and driver wants to take the tunnel and we almost have to go two out of three falls to take Paradise Road. So he finally relents and takes Paradise, fare was still thirty two dollars. I guess they got an adjustment for fuel as last year it was about twenty six. Been going long enough not to take the tunnel ever. Golden Nugget was fine as usual. I don't like the fact that they now have conservator shower heads. First night we truck over to the Queens and get the birthday dinner comp. Played a little with no great result. Walking back to room we stop at a dollar machine bank and both decide to sacrifice a twenty to the goddess of wagering. I pick a triple diamond and wifey settles in at a Five Star. About five pulls later she pops the Five Star for $ 625.00, two fives and a red seven. Good Start. Day two finds us roaming around the strip like purple hairs. Visit to M and M factory etc. Wifey wants to visit Wynn for dinner. Buffet for two now $ 81.00. Food choices are excellent, but I think the fare is a bit on the outrageous side. Now comes I'll be dipped in sh** moment number one. After dinner she's in the lady's can and I throw a five spot in a video poker machine while I'm waiting for her. On about the fifth spin I catch Ace, King, and Jack of hearts. Ok , this is Wynn nobody hits here. So I draw the Queen and ten of Hearts for the royal. The progressive is $ 2410, but dummy, yours truly, doesn't have five quarters in. Day three more strip touring, Caesar's for horses and football. Caught a nice exacta and trifecta at Monmouth park. Wife wants to go to Flamingo, but I can't pull a jackpot out of their machines with a tractor so we compromise with Bill's and Paris. VP was pretty good at Bill's. This was the bosses actual birhtday so we did dinner at the Redwood at the Cal. Always an excellent meal. Day four, Monday, we did the Laughlin deal, on Key Tours. It's five bucks and they toss in a free buffet at Colorado Belle or the Edgewater. We chose the Edgewater as the blue and yellow were both good that day. it's not really that bad but compared to Las Vegas standards it's somewhat lacking. The cost without the coupon was $ 5.99 and it was mobbed. You can find something to chow down on and for the price it's good. Did mostly roulette at the Belle with a great lady dealer who was lots of fun. We bet for her and it got her in the game. Evening meal was my favorite, the snack bar at Binnion's. Al has retired, but Mel, Lucy, and most the cast are still there. Still a great bargain. Day Five was Sam's Town and new Eastside Cannery. Sam's Town was for lack of a better
word, PLEH. Couldn't catch a cold. The new Eastside Cannery is about a block from Sam's and is kind of different. We liked it there. The machines were good. Day six was a gadabout day. Mostly on the strip , Mirage, Circus, Etc. The word is the Circus goes in December. The last full day is Uncle Al's day at the races. So I camped in at Nugget race and Sports Book. Wife heads across the street to the Queens. Two hours later she's back with $ 1,000.00 dollar voucher in her hand. She popped a Five Star Quarter machine with the three Five Star Symbols. Dinner was at the Second Street Grille at the Fremont. It's very good but we still kind of like the Redwood better. Some observations: noticed that selected Deuce buses had Security officers on them. Did most of our play downtown at the Queens and Fremont. Drink service is still very good downtown. I think we may start staying at the Queens as a hostess talked with us and was surprised we were not staying there. We just like the Nugget for cleanliness etc.

Nice trip report . . . sounds like your wife had a great birthday. I have always liked the Golden Nugget. Now we always stay downtown where we get our rooms comped. How did you like laughlin? I wonder if those rumors are true about Circus Circus?

Laughlin is like a break for us. We've done the trip three of the last four years. It's kind of nice relaxing day.
A lot of folks we talked to seem to think the Circus is going to go. But in some ways it just goes on and on.
It actually looks better in there as it seems to have new carpets and seemed cleaner.

 

Nice TR. I have missed on a few good hits also from not playing max coins, very irritating

Casino Death Watch hasn't made mention of any movement with the Circus. With the state of the economy, I'd be a bit surprised by any more casino destruction at this point.

 

You and your wife had some nice little wins. I'd like to stay downtown because I believe it's a better bargain than the strip; but, the wife just won't do it. She's been downtown twice to play and stroll and just doesn't like it.
