    My Trip Report

This was my Birthday trip to Las Vegas. I received an offer from the Gold Coast that I couldn't turn down over the summer. So I resisted for two seconds and booked the trip for me and my wife.

More on the toliet and the Cat man to follow.

9/12 Flight: Hartford, CT thru Dallas to LV. Our flight was fine. Arrived a little early on American(used FF miles for both tickets).

    Hotel: Gold Coast 9/12-9/17

Rental Car: Alamo-booked an economy car under the premise that you never actually get an economy car. We got an economy car-Toyota Yaris. actually really nice and very good on gas. Used ACG 20% off coupon and the $25 weekly ecoupon. Total $64.19(included fees and taxes).

    9/12:

Check in at the Gold Coast was a snap. With this offer we got$30 weekday/$60 weekend rooms, $10 dining credit per day,$15 Bar credit and $25 in casino cash(actually they gave me 6 $5 dollar coupons).

After we got our bags to the room. We decided to give the GC seafood buffet a shot. Enough to choose from. After the $10 food credit and 2 for 1 ACG coupon the tab came to $8.26 for 2.

After dinner went to the sports book and started placing bets on NCAA football for the next day.

Ok here is the toliet saga: No one used the toliet-so keep this in mind. This wasn't a result of eating at the buffet if you get my drift.

About 4:30 am both of us heard a bubbling coming from the bathroom. Went to check it out and the toliet was bubbling like the Fountains at Belligio. My wife flushes the toliet at this point AND the thing starts to overflow. I hit the shut off ASAP but water has already poured out into the bathroom and into the vanity area.

We call downstairs and a guy comes up with a full complement of new towels and a plunger(anticipating the worst), cleans up the water and proceeds to tell us that this has happened before when someone in a connecting room backs up their toliet. He said several rooms could/would be affected -but he assured us that it rarely happens. Lucky us.

    9/13:

    GC for breakfast buffet.

Played BJ at GC and won.

Headed out to the Mirage and decided to hit Casino Royale and play craps.

The dice went around the table twice with 2 points being hit followed by everyone 7 ing out (including me). Lost more than half my buy in . Colored up and moved on.

Went to In' N Out on Sahara for lunch. My wife had a spa appointment so after I dropped her off I went to Palace Station to watch some NCAA football. Also played BJ here and won.

Went to LV Hilton to watch USC and UCONN games.

Ended up hitting 3 -3 and 4 team teasers for a profit-Arizona(-3) and UCLA (+18) cost me on my other 2 cards. I did have BYU(Pick'em) on another card that won).

Dinner consisted of the Mexican place at the Palms. Decent enough.
Back to the GC to play BJ and watch the end of some of the late games(UNLV OT win was a great game).

    9/14: Sunday:

Sunday I was up early putting together my betting strategy for the NFL.

Went back Hilton to watch the games. They do a nice job at presenting the games. They have all the games going on in their showroom, drink and food specials. Prizes and raffles. All in a smoke free environment.
Had a quick lunch at the GC cafe. Had to use the $10 dining credit.

Ended up with 6 parlay and teaser cards.

Unlike on Saturday I made the error of believing a little too much in the Lions, Seahags and Bengals.

Those three killed 4 of my six cards.(had them with different points on multiple cards).

Had the Browns +6 and Cards -6.5.
Still Sunday was a sports betting loser.
After the games we headed downtown.

Gambled at the Golden Gate, Four Queens, Cal and El Cortez.

Again, got clocked at the craps table at the Elco.

But did follow up with winning BJ sessions at the Elco,Cal and back at the Gold Coast.

    9/15: Monday

    Breakfast at GC Buffet.

Went to 1/2 price ticket outlet at Fashionshow Mall to get tickets for Jersey Boys for 9/16. Tickets were not half price but $40 off of each.

Went to Wynn and Palazzo. Palazzo is very nice but what's up with their parking garage? Posts and rails everywhere. Looks like a place that will see it's fair share of accidents.

Headed over to the Premium outlets for a couple hours.

Went to Ellis Island for lunch. Followed by South Point for an even BJ session.

Then went back to GC for a winning BJ session.

Headed over to PH Miricle Mile. Wife went to the mall I went to the sports book to watch the Mets game(yuck!!) and catch the Cowboys/Eagles Arena League Game-first to 50 wins!!

By the time the game ended we settled for Blondies in the Miricle Mile shops on the way out. Philly Cheesesteak was ok.

    More BJ at GC-small win.

    9/16:

Last full day in LV- always feels like the day before school started as a kid- not good.

BJ at GC-another winning session(do we really have to leave???)

    Breakfast at the GC buffet.
Went to Palazzo to p/u tickets(turn in vouchers) for Jersey Boys(ened up with great seats).

Headed over to GVR. Not busy at all there just like the rest of the places we were at.

Played BJ and won again. I didn't have a losing session of blackjack this entire trip.

Used the ACG 2 for 1 coupon for the GVR buffet for lunch. Great as usual.

Back to the GC-more BJ more winning.

Went to Palazzo and saw Jersey Boys-very good. As I said earlier seats were real good dead center 2nd row loge.
After show went back to GC to start packing-slept for 5 hours then to the airport.

9/17: Oh yeah about the Cat man. At the airport this morning we see this guy sitting there covered in tattoos. No big deal Tattoos are real popular. Until you take a close look at the guy. This guy had tiger stripe tatoos covering his entire face and neck. His arms were covered too. Had long pants on so you couldn't see his legs or if he had a tail.
Also he must have had implants from plastic surgery to his eyes, checks, forehead and gowels. He was a human cat!!! He had very long(5") fingernails too.

He went to get a drink. Any guesses?? that's right he got MILK.

He was wearing a Ripley's Beleive it or not t shirt. So he must of been in town for a Riply's appearance.

    Just a couple comments:

    I still can't believe I didn't have a losing blackjack session.

Best move was to stop playing craps after day 3.

There were no crowds anywhere even on the weekend. Dealers mentioned to me that hours at the GC were getting cut down to 2-3 days a week from a full schedule.

I'm not getting on a soap box here but tipping is really impoirtant to these people, especially with fewer people in the casinos in this economy. I did my best to help tipping after every 6-8 hands or so.

So there is my trip. We had a great time.

Can't wait for the next trip.

nice report, I can definitely relate to less time at the craps and bj sessions lately, the more and more I go to Vegas, I tend to find the less and less I spend long sessions at the tables. A quick session for profit or not, seems to work better for me and keep me from chasing losses.

Great Trip Report; loved your Cat Man story. Not surprised at all about the lack of tourists. I'm thinking Las Vegas is heading into a deep depression with our economy being what it.

You're right, you gotta know when to walk away from the table; and, tipping is so imporant to the casino employees with the way everything is going. It does sound like you had a good time.

I was in Vegas the same days as you and I saw the Cat man too! I had to do a double take when I first saw him...

And no, that link wasn't him.

    Nice trip report.
I've seen that catman on tv before,
pretty cool to see him in person though.

The decline in people traffic in vegas is hard to miss.
Last week the Nevada Gaming Control Board
issued their monthly report indicating that gaming revenues
were down 12.97% in July 2008 compared to July 2007.
    Clark County turned in worse numbers than even the state average;
Strip revenues were down 14.67%, downtown dipped 16.39%
    and Mesquite was off 32.42%.

Air traffic into McCarran International Airport for July was down 8.6%,

    Great trip report!

As for the people in Vegas, I swear we must have gone the only week in August that was busy. The hotels were packed when we were there. Of course there was a big convention that week so that probably had a lot to do with it.

We're going in December and it's usually slow. I'm looking forward to a totally dead week. We'll see. Thanks for a great read.
